Today was Vampire Diaries day at New York Comic Con (we think there might have been other stuff going on, but it pales in comparison to the Vampire Diaries, right?), with Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, Steven R. McQueen, Katerina Graham, Zach Roerig and Sara Canning in attendance. Moderated by the lovely Carina MacKenzie (@cadlymack on Twitter – give her a follow), the panel was – by all accounts – a blast, with all kinds of intriguing spoilers and factoids being revealed (which you can see further down under the spoiler warning). Carina was also able to confirm with Steven that he doesn’t have a Twitter account. Anyone claiming to be him is a fake. Accept no substitutes.

Carina kindly gave permission for us to share a few of her photos from the event:

We’ll be adding links to videos and more pics when they’re uploaded (unfortunately cell service at the panel was poor, so many people weren’t able to tweet comments and pictures at the time). While we wait for that, get a load of the spoilery goodness revealed during the panel and in the press room.

Many thanks to Denise for sending us this scan. David Anders talks to TV Guide Magazine about playing villains, and throws in some juicy tidbits about Jonathan Gilbert in the Vampire Diaries while he’s at it. As if Mystic Falls wasn’t interesting enough already… someone must have cursed the town to live in interesting times. ;)

All hail KryptonSite for sharing stills from episode 18, “Under Control”, complete with better pictures of David Anders. Looks like Uncle John is making sure he introduces himself to Alaric and both Salvatore brothers all in the same episode – that can’t be good.

UPDATE: Stills added to the Gallery!

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWe have a handful of weeks to wait until the arrival of his character Jonathan Gilbert in Mystic Falls on April 15th (see a first look here), but David Anders recently spoke with Starry Constellation Magazine to talk Vampire Diaries. He drops some interesting tidbits about his role as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, how he’ll be going head to head with Damon, Stefan, and Alaric, and how long we can expect Jonathan to stick around Mystic Falls (it’s longer than you’d think!).

Q. Executive producer Julie Plec has said your character will further complicate matters, can you tell us a bit more about your characters relationship with Damon?

A. Just like his great grandfather, the original Johnathan Gilbert in 1864, he knows far too much about vampires, more than he should know about vampires. So I’m a know-it-all and I hold the information that I have over Damon and Stefan’s heads threatening to expose them in Mystic Falls if they don’t play ball with me. There is a lot more than that which I can’t really go into.

The Vampire Diaries TV ShowAs we get closer to the end of the season, speculation runs rampant about Vampire Diaries‘ May 13th finale. TV Guide talked to Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and they expand on earlier teases (some from PaleyFest) with more info about “Uncle John” Gilbert (David Anders), whether Jeremy will finally learn the truth about vampires, and something book fans will recognize:

TVGuide.com: What should we expect in the season finale?
Plec: What we’ve been building to from the beginning — it’s something we took directly from the books — is this event called the Founders’ Day Celebration, which is the anniversary of the founding of the town. We’re looking into big period costumes and Civil War reenactments and maybe some parade action with some big floats. It’s going to be the big event that connects us back to 1864 and what went down back then. It messes things up so when we come back in Season 2, everyone has a reason to tune in again. There are nine “oh my God” moments.

Read the entire interview at TV Guide.

And Ausiello has more info on the finale from Kevin and this clarification from Julie on why Vicki won’t be back:

“We are not adverse to bringing people back from the dead,” says exec producer Julie Plec, “but we would not do it with the first tragic death out of the gate. In the future, we absolutely will use those mystic tricks, but not with Vicki — as much as we loved Kayla [Ewell]. It would ruin the impact.”

Michael Ausiello has a teaser picture of David Anders guest starring as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle Jonathan. According to the article, even Jonathan has his own agenda for coming back to Mystic Falls.

The Alias and Heroes alum makes his debut in the April 15 episode when it comes time for Elena and Jeremy to sell their father’s doctor office. “He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” explains fellow e.p., Kevin Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else]. His intentions are not pure.”

Looks like Damon has scared anyone off who might be planning to visit Mystic Falls for fun. ;)

Alaric, Jonathan and Damon

According to TV Guide Magazine, actress Spencer Locke has been cast as Amber Bradley, a beauty pageant contestant who will turn up in a late-April episode titled “Miss Mystic Falls”.

We already knew Paul Wesley was attending, but now Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have also been added to the Australia Vampire Diaries event being held by Hub Productions in Sydney and Melbourne in July.

Finally, TV Guide Magazine spoke with the Vampire Diaries gang on the red carpet at PaleyFest, and have posted video for you to enjoy containing that, along with some snippets from the panel itself.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesVia Michael Ausiello, there’s more casting news out of Mystic Falls: David Anders, seen most recently on 24, will guest star as…

The Alias and Heroes alum will play Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, Jonathan Gilbert, who comes to Mystic Falls to “cause some trouble,” teases an insider.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s because, well, it should. Johnathan Gilbert is the name of Elena and Jeremy’s circa-1800 ancestor. Old school Johnathan debuted via flashback earlier this month as played by Joe Knezevich.

Read the notice over at Ausiello Files. Anders is set to appear in April. (OMG it’s SARK!)

UPDATE: TV Guide reports Anders’ first episode will be April 15th (episode 18/#117 – if the show runs with no breaks upon its return on March 25th).
