Update: The CW has now released this clip on YouTube:
ET Online has a rather candid interview with Ian Somerhalder about what viewers can expect heading into the Vampire Diaries’ fifth season. He touches on how this season compares to those before, Damon’s famous tendencies towards self-sabotage, Elena versus Katherine, and what he wants viewers to experience:
ETonline: Looking at this season, what are you excited for the fans to experience?
Somerhalder: The return of that feeling we all loved about season one. The feeling that initially sucked them in and allowed these stories to resonate. The scripts are coming in huge, the actors are pushing each other to make sure the scenes are the best they can be without compromising and it’s darker; and our show is supposed to be dark and we’re really taking it there this year.
Speaking of Katherine, the official TVD Facebook has just released her TVD Season 5 poster:
In this interview from TV Guide, Nina Dobrev talks about both her characters and how they’re adjusting to their new lives. She also talks briefly about Damon and Elena’s relationship status, and how they’re moving forward as the season begins.
“He’s going to try to be on his best behavior and Elena is going to embrace him, but she knows who he is and sometimes that comes to the surface and reminds her. But they’ll try to figure it out because love prevails and they want their love to conquer all. They have gone through so much to get to where they are now. If they didn’t keep fighting for it, it would be a shame.”
A couple more post-mortems for you, this time from Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide. Julie Plec answers questions about the season four finale and what might be up next for season five. Lots of Katherine-related Q&A in these, enjoy!
Spoiler alert for Graduation (EP423).
I think we’ll be seeing a bit more of Katherine. As always, we have to be careful with overworking the hardest-working woman in show business, Nina Dobrev. There’s so much fun to be had with seeing this nasty, manipulative, fearless, undefeatable Katherine suddenly finding herself vulnerable, killable. It may be time to pay some of the price for all the crappy things she’s done to other people over the last 500 years.
Can you imagine a time Elena and Katherine could ever find common ground?
Plec: You know I actually think that if they ever sat down and had a bottle of wine and a bag of chips they’d probably realize they have a lot more in common than they think. But they have a lot of hate and bitterness and altogether bad blood there so it might take a couple of bags of chips and a case of wine.
On The Originals front, the upcoming series made ET‘s list of 10 Most Promising New Fall TV Shows! The nod also included special praise for Charles Michael Davis as Marcel:
Unlike all the other entries this year, we’ve already seen an episode of The Originals since The CW tested it out with a backdoor pilot episode of TVD. Not only did the familiar faces dazzle in this new setting, but Charles Michael Davis is a star-in-the-making and a ferocious foe for Klaus to tangle with.
Nina Dobrev has had her hands full with Elena and Katherine this season. In this Vampire Diaries Bite from TV Guide, she talks about playing both characters and her reaction to a certain scene in last night’s finale when she saw it in the script. Spoilers for Graduation (EP423).
Ready for tonight’s episode? Here’s another webclip from Graduation (EP423). This one features Katherine and Bonnie and neither is in a very good mood. Enjoy!
