Nina Dobrev as KatherineA reporter from the New York Times Syndicate recently caught up with Nina Dobrev by phone from the set in Atlanta. She had some nice things to say about the show’s passionate fans, and also spoke about the challenges inherent in playing both Elena and Katherine:

“So it’s been more about learning to manage time and learning when to let go. I’m a perfectionist, I put 110 percent into everything. Trying to do that for two characters, I’ve been putting in 220 percent. It’s been a lot of work, but really cool. It confused me sometimes, early on, and I learned, when you’re doing something like this 10 months a year for possibly six years, you have to preserve your energy. I feel like it’s been acting boot camp. I’ve done everything on this show, a lot of things many actors don’t get to do throughout their whole career. So there’s nothing I can’t do or achieve after this.”

Road trip, anyone? We’re all really excited about what looks to be an action-packed episode this week, but we’ve still got a little while to wait. Hopefully this will make that wait a little more bearable, though I don’t think I’d like to be stuck in traffic with these two! Check out the webclip for The Reckoning.

Nina DobrevA few weeks ago, we showed you Nina’s fall photoshoot for Nylon. Now Nylon has an accompanying interview with Nina in which she talks about her Emmy dress, what she does in her free time, and more:

Would you say your style is more like Katherine or Elena in real life? My style is both of them. I have a say in a lot of the things I wear on the show. I feel like I dress like Elena during the day and Katherine at night. Like right now, I’m wearing a t-shirt and sweats. It just depends.

TV.com Interview with Nina Dobrev: Elena's Life Goals, Crying & SurfboardsFollowing last week’s super-fun interview with Julie Plec, TV.com‘s Price Peterson chats with Nina Dobrev about mapping out her shifts between Elena and Katherine, the emotional toll of being an actor on The Vampire Diaries (hint: life in Mystic Falls is kinda rough, y’know?), what Elena really wants in life, Degrassi, and the somewhat sad reality of those Teen Choice Awards surfboards. And as Mr. Peterson himself tweeted, “Also: It turns out Nina Dobrev is MUCH funnier than Elena.”

I’m a little harsh on Elena in my recaps. For the most part she’s pretty self-assured, but then she goes and makes some pretty questionable decisions sometimes. Do you ever read the script and go, like, “Seriously, Elena?”

Yeah, I do. I’m very much an audience member as well as a cast member. I watch and read the show very critically and sometimes Elena does—I mean she’s a strong woman and she’s very courageous—but sometimes she makes some very impulsive decisions. Ultimately she’s making those decisions for a reason. And I know and trust that the writers have an ultimate path that they want her to go through, a journey that they want her to experience. So there’s a reason behind every little line and detail.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Nina Dobrev on last night’s CW Premiere Party red carpet and she talks Elena, her evolving relationship with Stefan and Damon, and – oh, yes – Katherine. As for what to expect from Elena this season:

“She’s no longer letting the men in her life dictate what happens. She’s going to rise up and become a woman and fight,” Dobrev says.

In preparation for the season three premiere, Entertainment Weekly has new promotional shots of Vampire Diaries stars Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Wesley, all dressed up. And there are some intriguing quotes from Paul, too:

“There’s gonna be a lot of killing. As far as Stefan is concerned, he can never go back to his old life. Imagine Stefan sitting in high school. Apart from the fact that I just look weird sitting in high school,” he laughs, “he’s murdered all these people. What do you think, we’re just gonna go hang out now? As far as he’s concerned, he’s moved on. He’s past it all.”

Here’s a peek at the picture of Nina. Click over for Ian and Paul.

Kevin Williamson Drops More Season 3 Tidbits + New Episode Still from The Birthday (EP301)The Insider‘s Jarett Weiselman gets more Season 3 goods from Kevin Williamson, who teases whether Katherine will return, Matt’s role in the Vicki/Anna/Bonnie/Jeremy story line, pushing the Vampire Diaries cast out of their comfort zone, the Original family, and The Ripper:

After being forced to embrace his dark side, the fight for Stefan Salvatore’s soul (or whatever it is that kept him so docile in the first two seasons) will be a driving force behind the new season. Williamson reveals: “He just goes crazy this season. But it’s an incremental change. It’s not just The Ripper — it’s a whole arc and we go through every single beat of it. It changes all along the way. The fun of this season will be watching Stefan go through this intense and bloody journey. Very bloody.”

GET THE REST OF THE GOODS OVER AT THE INSIDER.

And TV Guide has a peek at yet another new episode still from The Birthday (EP301), this time featuring Alaric and Elena.
