As we get closer to the end of the season, speculation runs rampant about Vampire Diaries‘ May 13th finale. TV Guide talked to Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and they expand on earlier teases (some from PaleyFest) with more info about “Uncle John” Gilbert (David Anders), whether Jeremy will finally learn the truth about vampires, and something book fans will recognize:
TVGuide.com: What should we expect in the season finale?
Plec: What we’ve been building to from the beginning — it’s something we took directly from the books — is this event called the Founders’ Day Celebration, which is the anniversary of the founding of the town. We’re looking into big period costumes and Civil War reenactments and maybe some parade action with some big floats. It’s going to be the big event that connects us back to 1864 and what went down back then. It messes things up so when we come back in Season 2, everyone has a reason to tune in again. There are nine “oh my God” moments.
Read the entire interview at TV Guide.
And Ausiello has more info on the finale from Kevin and this clarification from Julie on why Vicki won’t be back:
“We are not adverse to bringing people back from the dead,” says exec producer Julie Plec, “but we would not do it with the first tragic death out of the gate. In the future, we absolutely will use those mystic tricks, but not with Vicki — as much as we loved Kayla [Ewell]. It would ruin the impact.”

Seventeen Magazine is filled with Vampire Diaries goodies in the shape of Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev. Paul is asked a few juicy questions, while Nina is featured in a more in-depth interview.

MaximoTV caught up with Kayla Ewell at QVC Red Carpet Style on Friday, and she talked about how she’s technically not allowed to talk about any possible return for Vicki Donovan. Personally, we think that Vicki as we knew her is, alas, no more. But who knows if she’ll be back as a ghost or in a flashback? We’re all down for ghosts in the Vampire Diaries; Grams and Vicki can hang out haunting Mystic Falls and attend the weekly ‘Dead by Damon’s Doing’ support group together.

Only a few days left now until the terrible Vampire Diaries hiatus is over and “Bloodlines” airs. To help you keep your sanity for the last stretch, we’ve got some behind the scenes stills from episode 7, “Haunted”. We especially love the ones of Vicki vamped out up close. A clear still of the vampire effects is a rare and precious thing. Click on the images to view larger versions, or view the entire set of stills for the episode in our “Haunted” gallery.

As all of you know by now, this past weekend was Nina Dobrev’s 21st birthday party in Las Vegas and there’s been a bunch of red carpet photos and video floating all over. (We’ll update this post with some of it soon.) But it wasn’t all play – she had an interesting tidbit to drop about the upcoming episode of Vampire Diaries, Bloodlines, in this Just Jared video (at the 3:29 mark).
Elena is… She’s just had this insane car accident and we’re going to pick up where we started and see what happens, and who rescues her, and where she goes. And she’s going to go on a little bit of a road trip. Let’s just say she’s going to find out a lot of shocking things. The end of this next episode is going to be extremely shocking and it’s going to take everyone by surprise. People are not going to expect what’s going to happen.
Watch the entire video at Just Jared.
UPDATE: A selection of photos and a video from the Studio 54 red carpet, courtesy of Getty Images and the ever-awesome Nina Dobrev Fan. In attendance: Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Katerina Graham, Sara Canning, Zach Roerig, Steven R. McQueen, Kayla Ewell, and we know Michael Trevino, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis, and Julie Plec were there as well. (For those who’ve been asking us where the photos of Ian and Paul are, this may have something to do with it.) You can see more photos in the Gallery.
You can see a ton more photos from inside the party over at Just Jared, and in addition to the above red carpet video, there’s this one courtesy of gershwin9 on YouTube:

Marathon week is all about re-experiencing the Vampire Diaries, so how about a little blast from the past with some behind the scenes pictures from “Night of the Comet”? We’ve got to admit that Ian’s devilish grin in the first picture gives us a thrill of fear. Reassuring to know he’s not that evil in real life.

Remember that People.com poll we mentioned a while back? The one that ruffled so many feathers with its “Second-Hottest Vampire” designation (assuming RPattz was number one)? Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley were included and, well, the results are in – as voted by People.com readers (click the screenshot to go to People.com):

Awards Show Network has followed up their interviews with Candice Accola and Katerina Graham with a brief Nina Dobrev chat:
Speaking of the Vampire Diaries ladies – the new issue of InStyle magazine features a two-page spread with Nina, Candice, Katerina, and Kayla Ewell. And the Jan/Feb issue of Men’s Health has future recurring guest star Sean Faris on its cover. (Thanks to @sabinetbfl and @Joselito4390 for the heads up.) And don’t forget to watch for Paul, Nina, and Ian on the February 2010 NYLON cover.
