Matt and StefanHeroine TV has posted an interesting article comparing morality in the Vampire Diaries and the Whedonverse (Buffy, Angel and Firefly) and how there are a lot of positive similarities between them. It wins me over for giving a Matt Honeycutt scene some serious love, but even without that it’s well worth a read. ;)

We’ve had word from Ian Somerhalder Italy that the Vampire Diaries will be airing in Italy on “Mediaset Premium“, likely from December. It should be airing at some point in 2010 on public television channel “Italia 1“.

You can vote for the TV series that you’re most looking forward to in YouTube’s Fall Preview. Aside from the Vampire Diaries there are a whole lot of trailers for a large number of shows for you to take a look at. Personally, I’m boggling over the fact that ‘Paranormal Cops’ is an actual TV show.

A quick reminder that reprints of The Awakening and The Struggle with the TV series tie-in covers should be available from today. For those of you wanting to read the books before the TV series airs on September 10th, now is the perfect time to go and buy them.

Finally, as we’ve mentioned before, the CW and the Red Cross are joining forces to promote blood drives in over 230 schools and college campuses across the United States; you can read the CW press release about it on the Futon Critic. Tomorrow (Wednesday, August 26th) there will be a blood drive taking place at the Ball Room at Georgia Tech. Cast members Ian Somerhalder, Kayla Ewell, Michael Trevino and Steven R. McQueen will be there from 9-10 am, and you can book an appointment to give blood here on the Red Cross website. If you’re in the United Kingdom, please consider finding a donation centre in your local area and giving blood, too.

Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood.

If you do decide to starve your vampire in order to donate, we urge caution until the next time you’ve been able to properly feed them. They tend to get a little tetchy without a regular meal of blood. ;)

Marcos SiegaLooks like Nina Dobrev (Elena) and Kayla Ewell (Vicki) are making the publicity rounds (Paul Wesley did the same thing a few weeks ago), including stops at Seventeen and Self. The latter has a brief blurb with photos – and what’s this about Nina making a bracelet out of forks?

With filming starting soon, we just want to remind everyone that if you’re not following director Marcos Siega on Twitter, you might want to reconsider! He’s currently with The Vampire Diaries crew in Georgia, preparing for filming (starts Tuesday the 21st), but has found the time to tweet a few fun snippets about location scouting (hi, guys!) and set building. (We’re happy to see he hasn’t needed a poncho yet.)

Also, another reminder, confirmed publicly by Siega himself: the only Vampire Diaries cast member on Twitter is Katerina Graham (Bonnie). (Yes, that means @NinaDobrev is NOT Nina Dobrev – which was also confirmed through Katerina by Nina herself.)

Michael Trevino as Tyler LockwoodProducer Kevin Williamson tweeted an interesting little snippet this morning:

It’s all about the Lockwood family today. Used to be Smallwood but you understand? Right?

Information floating around the internet had, until now, been listing Tyler (Michael Trevino) with the surname of ‘Stratton’. While it’s a little sad for some fans that ‘Smallwood’ isn’t being used (farewell, inappropriate jokes), ‘Lockwood’ is a substitute that we feel works well. Without dropping any spoilers, we have to admit that we’re curious to see just how much of the ‘Lockwood’ family history makes its way into the TV series (and how it will be expanded upon). We’re getting more excited about how the mythology in the show will unfold as details from the books come to life.

On the subject of Kevin Williamson on Twitter, we were treated to a few amusing tweets last night from his dinner with Julie Plec, Marcos Siega, and the cast, during which he was ‘harassed’ by Damon (who, it seems, not only likes to steal bread sticks from pretty girls, but also likes to steal fries from innocent producers – the fiend) and posted pictures of Ian Somerhalder and Katerina Graham and Katerina with Nina Dobrev and Kayla Ewell.

And speaking of photos, the cast had a session with photographer Andrew Eccles at Beverly Hills’ famed (and reportedly haunted) Greystone Mansion yesterday (via Katerina Graham).

Explore Talent snagged an interview with the ladies of the Vampire Diaries (Nina Dobrev, Katerina Graham, Candice Accola and Kayla Ewell) at the MTV awards. In it they talk about their thoughts on being actresses and how to deal with starting out in the business. While not strictly related to the Vampire Diaries, it’s good to see them as a group and get an idea of their chemistry together.
