Lots of Season 2 discussion from Vampire Diaries cast and producers in the last few days – most previously reported from the Comic Con press room, but some new tidbits as well.
First up, Pop Damage has discussion from executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec:
JH: Will there be any new supernaturals making their way to town this season?
Julie Plec: Ultimately, that notion is what got Kevin and me to want to do the series in the first place. Because in the books, I think it was a huge Civil War battle that shed a lot of blood and because of all the blood that had been shed from the soldiers, it’s just sort of a heightened hot bed of activity, and when we read that, we thought this is a show that can be more than just these characters and just these creatures because this town for whatever reason draws that kind of element in. And the deeper the series gets, hopefully we’ll be able to hold on for as long as possible, but the deeper the series gets, the more we’ll start to get a sense of what other elements might be either long gestating in this town or coming to town because it’s got a strong supernatural pull.
Collider has tidbits from Ian Somerhalder and Michael Trevino:
Will Tyler be a villain?
Michael: Yes. Tyler was always a bully and a prick, but now that he has this supernatural ability, he’ll be a villain. Yes, definitely. You can’t just have Damon around, kicking people’s asses and being a punk. If they can write for me as well as they write for Damon, then it will be fun.
Alix at the TV Chick talks with Steven R. McQueen about Jeremy’s future:
Has [Jeremy's] relationship with [John] influenced who he is this season?
Yeah, most definitely. I think every relationship with an older male figure affects Jeremy a lot, even with Damon. [John] affects him in the way that he’s around. He’s the only older male that is present. The only person I can pull any sort of guidance from. But [John] betrays me, and it’s an interesting, interesting relationship.
And finally, Katerina Graham talks season premiere on last month’s Teen Choice Awards red carpet:

Didn’t think we saw enough of the supporting characters last season? Want to know more about them? You’ll be pleased to hear that Kevin Williamson told Hollywood Crush that we’re going to be finding out a whole lot more about Matt, Caroline, Tyler and Bonnie this season.
Actually, Kevin said he’s excited to give the show’s sideline characters a lot more camera time in season 2. “What’s nice about this is that Matt, Caroline, Tyler, and Bonnie were all sort of our secondary characters — they are not part of the triangle. Now, all the storylines I wanted to tell last year and didn’t have time, I can tell them. I’m grateful I can tell the stories I’ve been sitting on.
Yeah, I’ll be over here furiously waving my Team Matt flag. While I do that (though feel free to join me), you guys watch the video.

Along with this information, Hollywood Crush also reveal that Jeremy is going to be dealing with a change in his view of the world, and will be striking up an unlikely friendship. Futon Critic has a series of “A Few Minutes With…” video interviews with the Vampire Diaries cast: Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, Steven R. McQueen, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis and Kevin Williamson. You can watch Kevin’s interview below and click everyone’s names to watch their video over on Futon Critic.
MTV’s Hollywood Crush continues to toss out interesting segments from their own video interviews; this new one is with Steven and Kevin and there are some definite hints about Katherine, Elena, and why the two look exactly alike:
Over on SyFy’s Blastr, Kevin Williamson discusses gay characters on The Vampire Diaries, diversity in general, and finding a good story (and provides a few more Season 2 hints in the process):
Williamson also won’t force a character to be gay when they need to be something else for the show. He’s writing a few guest-star parts now that won’t work as gay characters. “There’s plenty of characters coming, but the couple of regular characters that we’re bringing in are female, so I guess they could be lesbians, but we’re bringing them in for love interests. Once the wheels are in motion, it’s hard just to add something simply because you want to do it.”
