Tonight at 8/7c: The CW continues their weekly Vampire Diaries encore spree with Lost Girls (EP06), which marks the very first appearance of flashbacks and everyone’s favorite doppelgänger vampire ex-girlfriend. Everything about this episode is BIG – the revelations, the costumes, the hair, the dancing. “Enjoy the Silence” and enjoy the show. New episode of Moonlight airs immediately after at 9/8c.
For the savvy among you who did the math and realized the CW wouldn’t be able to air Season 1 in its entirety before the Season 2 premiere – good spot. According to the Futon Critic, Vampire Diaries encores will be making the jump from Lost Girls this week to Fool Me Once next week (skipping seven episodes). Presumably, this will allow Founder’s Day to air the week before the show’s return on Sept. 9th.
Catch up on this past week’s posts:
- Vampire Diaries Season 2 premiere date confirmed

Back on June 3rd, Deadline Hollywood reported that the CW had launched its first ever Emmy campaign, highlighting the Warner Bros.-produced shows Gossip Girl, Smallville, One Tree Hill, Supernatural, and The Vampire Diaries. DH provided a look at the CW’s For Your Consideration insert in Emmy Magazine (the brainchild of WB TV’s chief marketing officer, Lisa Gregorian) and revealed that a DVD with special Emmy promo trailers of the aforementioned shows had been included. (Any chance the general public will get to see this Vampire Diaries promo trailer at some point?)
A few days later, Vlada of TV blog Staying In provided more detail about the OMFG FYC insert, mentioning that the network had submitted the Vampire Diaries Pilot and Lost Girls. Vlada had this to say in regards to the CW’s chances for Emmy recognition:
While I don’t think that most of the CW shows can compare to the glory days of the WB, least of all Emmy-nominated shows like Mad Men, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some underrated talent on the network.

Now Zap2It’s Carina MacKenzie has chimed in on the CW’s Emmy chances, reinforcing the point that while CW shows may not stand a chance in the Emmy race, there’s something to be said for the CW roster’s influence on pop culture and the strength of some of its stars:
That’s not to say that Ackles won’t deserve [an Emmy] eventually. In fact, we think The CW is currently grooming the actors who will be tomorrow’s greats. Nina Dobrev’s subtle shifts between her two characters, Katherine and Elena, in “The Vampire Diaries” finale are very telling of her natural ability and dedication to the craft. Ian Somerhalder has spent a decade on television, but it wasn’t until he hit The CW that he truly found his stride with Damon Salvatore.

What do you guys think? Is the campaign ballsy or futile? Agree with the Vampire Diaries episodes submitted?

You knew it was only a matter of time, right? We love our polls and this one’s big: Narrow down your favorite Vampire Diaries: Season One episodes to your TOP THREE. (I can do four, so I’m sweating a bit.) Which episodes made you yell at your television with joy or frustration? Challenged or solidified your allegiances? Turned your character perspective upside down? Which episodes left you with an emotional hangover the next day and had you dissecting it, minute by minute, scene by scene, in blog post comments or in forums? Which three episodes reel you back in, over and over again?
For the first time, we’re going multiple choice. Check your three favorite episodes and see where your fellow fans land. And if you’re so inclined, let us know how and why you settled on your picks.

It’s hard to believe the season one finale is only five weeks away. Doesn’t seem that long ago that there was a write-up in Variety, announcing that a Vampire Diaries pilot had been ordered. Take a walk down memory lane with a slew of official episode stills and behind the scenes photos from the first 10 episodes of The Vampire Diaries. We teamed up with Vampire Diaries Web to bring you over 400 new images. Click on a header to see that particular folder in the Gallery. Enjoy!
Special note: For the true die-hards and trivia buffs…pay close attention to the Haunted stills and see if you notice something interesting in the scenes with Elena, Vicki, and Jeremy. Oh, and be sure to check out what “Elena” was writing in her diary in the Pilot.

Night three of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon begins soon, and we hope you’re all planning on tuning in. Last night saw an average of 1.3 million viewers for “Friday Night Bites” and “Family Ties”. Both of tonight’s episodes rank up there as pretty popular as secrets are revealed, shocking things happen, and we get to see Katherine for the first time in all her superior glory in a lush-looking flashback.
Here’s the combined episode reaction post for “You’re Undead to Me” and (you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait a whole week for this one) “Lost Girls”. You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). Today/tonight is your last chance to vote The Vampire Diaries as Best New TV Drama in the People’s Choice Awards. Get over there and vote as many times as your index finger will allow you to click. Finger cramps are for sissies and police procedurals are boring. (Yeah. We said it.)
Nina, Paul, and Ian are heading over to Red’s home turf – that would be the U.K. – to promote The Vampire Diaries, which begins airing on ITV2 next month. Have questions for the trio? Wander over to ITV2′s Facebook page and chime in with your queries.
Finally, we know many of you have been searching for this info: The track used in the Lost Girls promo is Rie Sinclair “(Lover) What’s Going On”.

We like lists, so we thought we’d highlight the songs Vampire-Diaries.net readers have downloaded the most in the last few months. Jason Walker’s “Down” (from the closing of Lost Girls) has been the overwhelming favorite, with Anberlin’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” (Vicki and Damon dancing in Lost Girls) and Plumb’s “Cut” (Elena and Stefan’s love scene in The Turning Point) neck and neck in your affections.
You can see complete songlists for each Vampire Diaries episode on our Music in the Series page.
1. Jason Walker “Down” (Lost Girls)
2. Anberlin “Enjoy the Silence” (Lost Girls)
3. Plumb “Cut” (The Turning Point)
4. Sanders Bohlke “The Weight of Us” (Haunted)
5. Tyrone Wells “This Is Beautiful” (The Turning Point)
6. Bat For Lashes “Sleep Alone” (Haunted)
7. Barcelona “Come Back When You Can” (History Repeating)
8. Gary Go “Open Arms” (Haunted)
9. Five For Fighting “Chances” (The Turning Point)
10. Mike Sheridan & Mads Langer “Too Close” (162 Candles)
We still have a lot of readers asking about the first song used in The Turning Point‘s promo. If you have any insight, please drop a comment!
UPDATE: Thanks to the tipster who let us know the first track used in The Turning Point promo is “All I Ever Wanted” by Otto’s Daughter. (You can sample the entire track on Last.fm.)
