Four days!
Ahem. Now that’s out of my system, on with the news. ;)
Northwest Florida Blood Services are going to be holding a Vampire Diaries blood drive on Thursday the 10th September at the University of West Florida Center for Performing Arts. There will be a variety of promotional giveaways along with a planned screening of the series premiere at the center. You can find more information here.
We meant to post this sooner, but with the flurry from Friday it slipped through the cracks. Marcos Siega tweeted on Friday with a picture and the accompanying message ‘Where vampires go to die…’. Said picture was a rather awesome front view of the Salvatore family crypt. Book fans can all get excited about the link to the books, while everyone else can appreciate what looks like one cool set piece.
Nina Dobrev Fan let us know that Kayla Ewell is featured on the cover of this month’s issue of Orange Coast Magazine (out now). It’s part of a Fall fashion spread featuring some of Orange County’s rising stars, and the Vampire Diaries title appears on the cover next to Kayla. Neat!

Finally, there’s been a lot of press coverage over the past few days, but we haven’t posted links to everything here as most of the content has been posted before in one article or another. Still, it’s worth mentioning that the press is taking notice of the series, and how cool it is that the Vampire Diaries is getting lots of exposure.

Some odds and ends to gather ’round. First up, thanks to Marissa for letting us know that The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to begin airing on the Go! Channel in Australia this October. Still no exact start date, but better than the general “end of 2009″ we’d been hearing. As soon as we have a date, we’ll let you know.
Many thanks to Caroline for these scans of Paul and Ian talking Stefan and Damon in the new issue of US Weekly (you guys can stop asking us about whether Paul is single now, thaaaaank you) and Ian in the Fall Preview 2009 issue of TV Guide.

And finally, CW Source has posted their Comic Con interview with Nina. She talks about the usual topics here, but also provides a teaser for the second episode, “Night of the Comet.”

Many thanks to @Heaven314 for scanning these for us. This week’s issue of Soap Opera Digest contains interviews with Paul Wesley, Kayla Ewell and Zach Roerig, where they talk about working on the Vampire Diaries with each other and their previous work in various daytime soaps.

The official synopsis for episode three, ‘Friday Night Bites’, is now up on the episode index page. The episode was directed by John Dahl and written by Barbie Kligman and Bryan Holdman, it looks like it’s going to be filled with a lot of action. And football. Lots of football. :D
SFX Magazine‘s October issue (out in the UK now) has an article about the Vampire Diaries TV series. Not much content – a short explanation along with a few snippets from Ian Somerhalder – but impressive enough that it got a full page given it’s not out in the UK until 2010. You can click on the image below to read the article.

Many thanks to Giochan for sending us this scan of NYLON Magazine‘s article with Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. It’s a light-hearted and amusing article, mostly with quotes from Nina, and mostly on the subject of whether or not Paul might actually be a vampire…
“I am still unsure about whether Paul is or isn’t a vampire [Nina] says, shooting him a wary glance in a Brooklyn photo studio. “Obviously, there’s the teeth…”

And, because we’ve not had much to post about Steven R. McQueen while he’s been working on the Vampire Diaries, we’re posting this behind-the-scenes video of a photoshoot for Teen Vogue which features Steven (among others). We figure it counts as he does say the words ‘Vampire Diaries’. ;)

Entertainment Weekly has a little Vampire Diaries snippet in their upcoming Comic Con preview issue (due out on the 24th of this month). Thanks to Adrienne, we have a scan of the article with a picture of Nina Dobrev in the foggy graveyard. It doesn’t tell us anything we haven’t already known for a while now and, sadly, it doesn’t give us anything really juicy. Though we’re willing to admit that we’re still stuck on those promo images from yesterday, so pretty much everything pales in comparison right now. However, it’s good to see the emphasis on the Vampire Diaries not being Twilight for television where a wider audience can see it. We’re also kind of tickled by the sentence describing the Vampire Diaries as “addictive novels”. Maybe that will entice a few more people to pick the books up and see what all the fuss is about?
