The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIndustry database Inbaseline.com is listing Bryan Holdman as Executive Story Editor for the 2009-2010 season of The Vampire Diaries. (So he’s the guy in charge of supervising the writers, banging the scripts into shape for production, etc.) Holdman was previously a writer and executive story editor for Kyle XY, which many of you know by now is TVDtv Executive Producer Julie Plec’s former show. He also wrote episodes for Everwood (which featured TVDtv actor Steven R. McQueen) and Hidden Palms (Kevin Williamson’s last television venture).

Andrew Kreisberg has joined the show as Co-Executive Producer (second-in-command, if you will). His previous producer credits include Eli Stone, Fringe, and Boston Legal, and he was also a writer and story editor on The Simpsons.

So, the Vampire Diaries chatter amongst the Atlanta acting community has been non-stop since the CW upfront, and just the other day director Marcos Siega confirmed he was headed to Georgia once he wrapped Dexter. And now we see that Atlanta is listed as the shooting location on InBaseline.com. So, yes, that all adds up to quasi-official confirmation that The Vampire Diaries is shooting in and around Atlanta, Georgia, as not-so-subtly hinted at by Williamson last month.

And, finally, Jezebel in the TVD forums alerted us to this nugget of information on Katerina Graham’s Wikipedia page and we’ve confirmed with Julie Plec: Bonnie’s last name is BENNETT in the pilot (not McCullough, and Plec does say “as of the current cut”).

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThanks in large part to the lovely Sucker for Vampires – who’s been translating a lot of our major news since early April (Olá!) – we receive a lot of hits from Brazil, so we’re pleased to point out that DARKSIDEsubs has added Portuguese subtitles to The Vampire Diaries three-scene teaser trailer and promo trailer. (SfV will have to let us know if the subtitles are any good, but here’s hoping!)

And it looks like The Vampire Diaries is plowing headfirst into pre-production with a (new?) production designer and writing officially begins (glance at clock) today. Really great to hear Marcos Siega will still be involved in the project.

Here’s the big one – we finally know for certain what the deal is with Fell’s Church vs. Mystic Falls, straight from Julie Plec:

Fell’s Church not clearable, like some of the characters’ names. Everything needs to be legally cleared.

Translation: It wasn’t an arbitrary change. They can’t use Fell’s Church.

So that answers that. At least we have Salvatore.

Marcos Siega has just twittered the news:

It’s official! Vampire Diaries is picked up!

Followed shortly after with a tweet from Kevin Williamson:

Just got a really nice phone call from Dawn Ostroff!!!!

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Update: Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are both running articles confirming the pickup by the CW. THR has something interesting to say:

CW brass is said to be so high on “Vampire” that they are even considering launching the series as a tentpole on Thursday, capitalizing on the built-in sci-fi audience on the night as it is preparing to bid farewell to “Smallville.”

Keep an eye on this blog, we’ll update with more substantial news later when we get it.

Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAccording to the Hollywood Reporter, TV networks are set to start screening pilots to their respective Powers that Be this week, a major step in deciding just what we’ll be seeing on our screens come this Fall. The CW’s Vampire Diaries pilot seems to be attracting buzz and may well be in with a good chance of being picked up.

At the CW, “Melrose Place” remains on cruise control toward a series order, but the “Gossip Girl” spinoff no longer is a sure thing. It is expected to compete for the network’s two or three available slots with the pilots “Beautiful Life” and “Vampire Diaries” — both tracking strong — as well as the early standout “Light Years” and bubble freshman “Privileged.”

This is all the more interesting given that the Gossip Girl spinoff was being touted as a sure thing only a few weeks back, and now the Vampire Diaries appears to be giving it some hot competition.

Speculation aside, we here at Vampire-Diaries.net wish the cast and crew the best of luck with the screening of the Vampire Diaries!

UPDATE: According to a tweet from Julie Plec, it looks like today is the big day for the Vampire Diaries pilot. Fingers crossed, guys! We’ll be sure to post news here as soon as we hear anything.

UPDATE: So Williamson and Siega posted tweets within a minute of each other on Tuesday night saying “Enjoying the good news.” and “Enjoying the good news!” around 11 p.m. EST/8 p.m. Pacific. Siega followed up saying he was celebrating the Man U victory today. We don’t know. “Enjoying the good news” is odd terminology if it’s in reference to a football game. Just sayin’.

UPDATE: Williamson says they won’t know until pick-ups on the 21st. So there you go.

Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAfter a week straight of editing – and periodic updates on take-out orders via Twitter – it seems The Vampire Diaries pilot is now complete.

Now we wait. The CW Network will present its Fall schedule on May 21st at the Madison Square Garden Theatre. Not familiar with an upfront? It’s when network execs meet up with the media and – most importantly – advertisers to present their wares and drum up advertising dollars and interest for their shows.

Regardless of what happens from this point, thanks to Marcos Siega, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, and Katerina Graham for giving us a peek into the entire experience.

UPDATE: Looks like Siega is still making a few final tweaks (like color timing and dubbing), but for the most part the pilot seems to be done.

Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAfter a determined push to finish come what may, Marcos Siega and Julie Plec have tweeted to say that filming wrapped for the Vampire Diaries pilot last night. Everyone involved seems to have enjoyed the entire experience and are pleased with the footage they have. Katerina Graham (Bonnie) twittered when she wrapped on the 16th to say that she’d had one of the best experiences of her life. Hopefully the enthusiasm and hard work that everyone has obviously put into making this pilot will pay off. Now we just have to wait patiently for the finished product.

Good luck with the editing phase, guys! We hope it goes smoothly for you.

The week in Vampire Diaries production – with bullet points (!):

In other news, via various reports from around Vancouver, Ian Somerhalder apparently goes out at night and is still really, really, ridiculously good-looking (Blue Steel™). Yet the mythical Sarah Carey continues to evade.

Marcos SiegaVampire Diaries pilot director Marcos Siega (True Blood, Dexter) is on Twitter and he’s providing a glimpse into what sounds like a soggy series of night shoots in Vancouver. If you want to get a behind-the-scenes peek of the Vampire Diaries filming, he’s posting photos of the set and storyboards, too. (No word on whether he’ll live-tweet Ian Somerhalder getting his chest waxed.)

He’s not the only TVDtv member tweeting – you can find actress Katerina Graham (Bonnie) updating on Twitter as well.
