Alaric fans, have you been moping about the lack of significant Alaric Saltzman screen time this season? Well, don’t worry. Julie Plec told EW’s Hollywood Insider that they’re looking to rectify that tragic situation soon.
Plec also admitted that it has been a challenge finding a place for Alaric after the Isobel storyline came to a close last season. “His storyline was wrapped up for a while and it’s taken us longer than we wanted to jumpstart a new chapter for him. Hopefully, we’ll be able to crack that soon and really get to show him off, because we think he’s awesome.”
And in another Hollywood Insider article, Julie gives lots of juicy information about Tyler Lockwood and the upcoming werewolf mythology in the Vampire Diaries.
Fans have been wondering if/when Tyler would develop the wolves’ natural dislike of vampires. The wait is what’s fun, Plec says. “With our vampires, you have the Old World vampires that we’re slowly introducing that have a code and a set of rules that they live by, and then you have our New World vampires who are like, ‘What? Who? I don’t even know what you’re talking about’ and are much more independent, every-man-for-himself kind of vampires. The werewolves are gonna have the same sort of idea. The newbies are just like, ‘Dude, I just triggered a curse. I killed somebody. I’m a werewolf. I don’t know what the hell to do with myself.’

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the winner of its epic Sexy Beast showdown, and guess what?

Maybe it was a last-minute Tweet from Somerhalder himself –”That Pattinson guy will end up kicking my butt, however thanks for taking the time, that’s really cool : )” –that turned the tide in favor of his character. Or maybe it was a get-out-the-vote campaign by Somerhalder’s co-star Matt Davis (Alaric). “I think he text-messaged Justin Bieber and said ‘Hey, would you please vote for my friend?’ I’m not even kidding,” Somerhalder tells EW.
Pick up the Sexy Beast issue – which includes an interview with Ian Somerhalder – when it hits newsstands on Friday, August 27th.

K!dult’s Lee Hernandez interviews Mystic Falls’ favorite (only?) history teacher, Matt Davis, about his role on The Vampire Diaries, the role he’s most recognized for, his interests outside of acting, and how those interests make it to his Twitter, @ErnestoRiley.
On The Vampire Diaries you play a history teacher. Are you a history buff in real life?
I’m an alternative history buff more than anything else. I have a passion for conspiracy theories, alternative histories, and different points of view that you don’t necessarily get exposed to in public schools.

Thanks to Kat from Portrait Magazine for the heads up on the magazine’s August cover, which features Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (by popular demand). The issue features a lot of Vampire Diaries content, including: 25 Reasons we Love Nina Dobrev, Hanging with the Vampire Diaries cast in Sydney!, Ian Somerhalder: A Star with Conviction, Confessions of a TV-Holic: Crushing on the Bad Boy…, and Rise of the Vampires (the best Vampire Diaries quotes).
Think we forgot to post these a few days ago: CW Source has new video interviews with Nina Dobrev, Steven R. McQueen & Julie Plec from Comic Con. Nina talks about the challenge of a character imitating another character, Steven discusses not discussing what’s going on with Jeremy, and Julie talks about the big surprises in the Season 1 finale.

Futon Critic has a series of “A Few Minutes With…” video interviews with the Vampire Diaries cast: Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, Steven R. McQueen, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis and Kevin Williamson. You can watch Kevin’s interview below and click everyone’s names to watch their video over on Futon Critic.
MTV’s Hollywood Crush continues to toss out interesting segments from their own video interviews; this new one is with Steven and Kevin and there are some definite hints about Katherine, Elena, and why the two look exactly alike:
Over on SyFy’s Blastr, Kevin Williamson discusses gay characters on The Vampire Diaries, diversity in general, and finding a good story (and provides a few more Season 2 hints in the process):
Williamson also won’t force a character to be gay when they need to be something else for the show. He’s writing a few guest-star parts now that won’t work as gay characters. “There’s plenty of characters coming, but the couple of regular characters that we’re bringing in are female, so I guess they could be lesbians, but we’re bringing them in for love interests. Once the wheels are in motion, it’s hard just to add something simply because you want to do it.”

TV Guide’s Natalie Abrams caught up with Julie Plec, who sheds more light on the plethora of Season 2 tidbits that came out of Comic Con this past weekend, and also explains that certain devastating events happen for a reason.
TVGuide.com: How close will you stay to the novels as you carry on?
Plec: The deeper we get into the series, ironically, the more we’re going to be taking from the books. That’s cool because we strayed so far so quickly, just by definition of trying to shape a good story in the right way for television. To find ourselves naturally returning to the source material and the villains that you met, it’s kind of awesome.
Villainssssss?

You can check out a brief video of Julie discussing Elena and Katherine here, and watch some amusing “speculation” about werewolf effects from Paul Wesley and Matt Davis below, with more reliable insight from Michael Trevino:
