The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWe’ve been trying to blog this for a few days but the website’s been down. Looks like it’s finally back up: Star Magazine has a brief Q&A with Kayla Ewell that reveals who she’s bonded with on the show, her Twilight connections, and her favorite vampire (yeah, he’s a favorite ’round these parts, too).

Thanks to Johanna for pointing this one out: Actor Javier Carrasquillo, who plays Jared (one of Vicki’s stoner friends from last week’s episode), has posted some behind-the-scenes photos on his MySpace page. They are possibly mega-spoilery (though not all that surprising) for this week’s episode, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. Also: Bare ass warning.

And finally, we’d heard rumblings about this last week, but we now have a press release courtesy of SpikeTV: Looks like Paul, Nina, and Ian will be appearing at Spike’s 2009 SCREAM Awards, premiering October 27th at 10 p.m. ET. (The show actually tapes on the 17th at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.) If you’ve never watched the SCREAM Awards – it’s basically an awards show you might actually give a crap about, honoring the people’s choice of genre media in all its forms. In other words: You don’t wanna miss Vampire Diaries hitting that stage.

UPDATE: Ken Tucker over at Entertainment Weekly grades 19 Fall TV Shows including The Vampire Diaries. He gives it a B- but no worries – you can grade it, too, so have at it.

This Friday’s issue of TV Guide Magazine has a spread of Vampire Diaries behind-the-scenes photos courtesy of Kayla Ewell, who also gives some spoilery insight into what the future holds for Vicki and Jeremy, reveals that the vampires of the show don’t yet have the hang of the whole biting thing, and gives up Michael Trevino and Zach Roerig‘s dirty little Twitter secret (with photographic evidence! – we’re LOL-ing over here). Click on the images below to see bigger, readable scans in the gallery (a little spoilery!) – and big, big thanks to Denise for the scans.

The CW Connect has a video interview with Nina where she answers fan questions about the show, including whether Elena suspects Stefan is a vampire, the vibe on the set, how much she knows about what future episodes hold, and how the show is different from Twilight and True Blood. Lots of good stuff – you can view it at CWtv.com or on the official Vampire Diaries Facebook (the second link should work for you, non-U.S.A. peoples).

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesSeventeen Magazine has a lighthearted Q&A with Candice Accola where she talks about the usual – living and working in Atlanta, hanging with the cast, and why those scripts are on lockdown:

17: Are you on the edge of your seat every time you get a new script?
CA: We actually got in trouble, [but] we’re all blaming Nina [Dobrev] who plays Elena. Nina took the script from the hair and makeup trailer because we’ve been dying to know what will happen next. And then she got caught, and so now, they have scripts on lockdown, and they won’t tell us any information!

And this afternoon had two radio interviews with Vampire Diaries cast members:

The first was BuzzWorthy’s interview with Michael Trevino who, according to many of you on Twitter, had a way better radio voice than the guy interviewing him. (Radio can’t have him, he’s on our TV.) Ends up Michael has also read the books (the first four), hints that perhaps there’s a reason why Tyler is such a jerk and bully (and maybe it has something to do with his parents), and that we might be seeing a different side of Tyler in upcoming episodes (especially when it comes to Vicki). He also played coy on the Lockwood family in general and referred to Mystic Falls’ history having a very real impact on the newest generation. We’re also pretty sure he dropped a super-vague hint about a particular character’s appearance later on down the road. You can listen to the entire interview (half hour) over at BuzzWorthy.

And on Stardish Radio, Jasmine Guy shed a little more light on her upcoming role as Grams, Bonnie’s witchy (and, uh, drunk?) grandmother, whom she apparently has the honor of naming and was soliciting suggestions (which included the Salem-inspired Tituba and Katerina’s suggestion of Sadie). She also revealed the name of Bonnie’s great-great-great-great grandmother (hover to see), Birdy Mae, and said she looks forward to seeing more of not only the race dynamics of the show’s Civil War-era flashbacks, but also the way vampires and witches interact, and what the “rules” will be for the show’s witches. Listen to the interview over at Stardish.

And finally, there’s an itty bitty Paul video snippet over at People.com where he talks about the best thing about growing up in New Jersey.

Jasmine Guy will be on Stardish Radio 8 p.m. ET, and that call-in number is (347) 945-5423. Friday Night Bites is now available for your viewing pleasure on the official CW Vampire Diaries page. (USA only.)

We have a title for episode 8 (#107) – you can check it out in the Episode Index. The episode is written by Barbie Kligman and Gabrielle Stanton, and stepping in for directing duties this time around is Rick Bota. Bota’s credits include Jericho, Raising the Bar, and Close to Home.

Seems Logan isn’t the only Fell hanging around Mystic Falls – we have a Franklin Fell making an appearance, played by Jackson Walker. We’re not sure of his relation to Logan, but there be Fells! That sound you hear is our squee button being pushed – even though the Animal Control van is always there to remind us not to get too attached to various characters. “Anyone, anytime, anyplace” – right?

Vampire Diaries Spoilers have posted some stills from episode 6, “Lost Girls”. Update: We have bigger, better quality versions now. They can be found in the gallery in the Lost Girls album.

In episode seven news, Ernest Dickerson (Dexter, Burn Notice) is at the helm directing the episode, and we’ve seen the title “Haunted” pop up in a few places. There’s also a still from it (courtesy of @LilMissX) with Stefan and Damon looking like they’re not at each other’s throats for once.

Elena and Stefan are up for the Hollywood Style People’s Choice Awards hottest Fall couple. Head on over there to cast your vote for them, and you’ll make Nina Dobrev a very happy lady in the process.

Katerina Graham posted a picture of herself from when she auditioned for Bonnie, and Michael Trevino posted a picture of Tyler’s car. Alas, Michael isn’t posing on the hood in the pic, but it’s still a sweet looking car. We can certainly picture Tyler behind the wheel.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIan Somerhalder answers reader questions about Damon’s motivations, what attracted him to the role, how he gets into character, and books vs. TV over at Entertainment Weekly:

Some people would say the show’s success depends on the chemistry between Elena and Stefan. I think a show like this is only as good as its villain. How do you see it?
I just see it as another component in the story. Every love story needs a catalyst of some sort. Love is tested in so many ways. How do I articulate this? Two people are together. There are stakes, strife, struggles, all these things that make us fall for someone, love someone even more, leave someone. But there’s always a catalyst. Something happens. And Damon, I think, is just that catalyst.

The L.A. Times also caught up with Ian:

It’s important that you and Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, have chemistry. Did you do anything to bond before production?
We just have it, which is great. I remember after a whole day of shooting publicity, I still hadn’t seen the pilot and Paul had it at his place and he said, “Listen, we’re going to grab dinner and we’re going to go and we’re going to sit and we’re going to watch it.” I was sitting there with him and I thought, “There are so many other people I could be stuck doing this together with and, fortunately, we got stuck with each other because it just works.”

NEW Ian in the New York Post:

PW: How soon will we start learning about Damon and Stefan’s history?
Ian: Very, very quickly. They’re not going to make the audience slowly get to know these people, which I think is smart. I’m one of the worst, but we’re all ADD. I have the attention span of a mosquito from multitasking and all the things that have affected my poor little brain. We want to get to the meat of the story, so Damon starts doing something things right off the bat that are so wrong … but so much fun. And that’s the key, man.

NEW More chat with Korbi at Zap2It (spoilers!):

Will Elena be the character to bring (the humanity) out of him?
IS: You know, when Damon’s in the presence of Elena, that is when you definitely see a change in him. There is something so profoundly attractive to Damon about this girl, not only just because Nina Dobrev is strikingly beautiful and extraordinarily talented, but because there’s a lot of Nina in Elena and Elena is very sweet and beautiful and [she's] going to be a complex character. Something about her reminds Damon of something that was very, very important in his life, and that’s why you see a bit of difference with him when he’s around her.

NEW Ian (boy, has he been busy!) interview with E!Online:

Are Damon and Stefan close at all, or is it strictly sibling rivalry with those two?
Stefan is not a fan of Damon, and for good reason. Whatever happened in the past, something happened between these two to yield an enormous amount of animosity, equally shared. Damon harbors a lot of anger toward Stefan for something he did in the past. So at any given moment, Stefan finds himself in a place where he’s happy, Damon will show up to ruin it. And that’s intense. Make no mistake about it, Damon loves his brother. He would never let anything happen to his brother. He’s the only one he has. And to be honest with you, Stefan is the only person who truly understands Damon, who understands what he’s been through, understands what he’s coming from.

NEW There’s a video clip available of Ian’s appearance on the Tyra Banks show, which airs tomorrow night on the CW. Check your local listings for times.

NEW CWSource has posted an interview with Ian from Comic Con.

Maxim.com has a very brief Q&A with Kayla and an accompanying photo shoot:

Honestly, on set when they put the bite marks on my neck, I looked in the mirror and freaked out. It made me squeamish. I’m OK with blood, but walking around and talking on your cell phone with a giant gash in your neck—I’m going to have to get used to that.

NEW Radar-online talks to the head make-up artist on the Vampire Diaries:

To get into “Vamp Mode”, as Pryor calls it, Somerhalder and Wesley must endure a painstaking makeup process including prosthetics, contact lenses and specially fitted fangs, which are created from a mold taken of the individual actors teeth. Then there’s airbrushing and a special effects team, which put the finishing touches on their scary transformation using visual effects.

EW.com has a fun photo gallery up: ‘Vampire Diaries’: Where You’ve Seen 10 Stars Before, featuring Paul, Ian, Nina, Zach, Kayla, Sara, Katerina, Michael, Candice, and Steven. And Nina is featured in their Fall TV Preview: 14 Exclusive Shots gallery.

First up, we have a lengthy interview with Paul, courtesy of CW Source. He talks a lot about the show, Stefan, a bit about himself, and how he’s in need of a nickname because there are too many Pauls on set.

Second, we have a variety of interviews with members of the cast (and Bob Levy – and I’m getting a copyright restriction notification, wtf? No fair! This must be what Red feels like all the time):

Update: Vee (and others) should be able to watch it now. ;) (R)

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWe’ve blogged a lot of cast interviews over the past few months, but we couldn’t help but notice that we had yet to hear from one person: Michael Trevino, aka Tyler Lockwood, aka @M_Trevino, aka the subject of possibly my favorite Julie Plec tweet ever. So last night we asked Michael if he’d want to field a few questions from fans via Twitter to fill this unfortunate void in premium Tyler Time, and he not only obliged, he went above and beyond. Thanks to fans who sent questions our way and thanks to Michael for being so awesome. I almost feel bad about throwing in the Waffle House question. Almost.

What do you find special about The Vampire Diaries?
What makes Vampire Diaries so special is that we’re going to be able to bring you drama, romance, suspense, sex, drugs, murder, and suspicion every week. Even better, you don’t have to have cable to watch us on the regular. (Wink, wink.)

What made you want to audition for Tyler?
I went out for Stefan and Damon early on in the audition process. Finally, in the end, I think the bad boy image I brought to Tyler won over Kevin and Julie. Tyler has been both a fun and interesting character to play thus far.

MICHAEL TALKS MORE ABOUT TYLER, FIGHT SCENES, LIVING AND WORKING IN ATLANTA, BLOOD DRIVES, AND YES – WAFFLE HOUSE.
