So the Vampire Diaries cast had quite an adventure getting to Los Angeles for the Hot Topic signing/Q&A today. For a little while it looked like Paul Wesley would be the only member in attendance, with Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder unable to get out of Atlanta due to weather. The main lesson? Don’t underestimate these people because they are determined and they have…HELICOPTERS.
Yes, Nina and Ian managed to make it to L.A. for the Q&A and Twitter has been peppered with cast and fan updates throughout the day. Never let it be said that anyone or anything related to this show is half-assed. The fan reaction has been amazing – lots of gratitude going around.
Not a lot of tidbits yet, but the lovely Jen of Nina Dobrev Fan was there and tweeted to say that an official Vampire Diaries soundtrack may be forthcoming, a tidbit announced before A Fine Frenzy’s set. Hopefully we’ll hear more about that very soon. (We also hope to hear an answer to this question, heh.)
Hills of Woodland has some photos from outside the signing. NOTE: There is no Vampire Diaries DVD set yet.
We’re sure KTLA and the CW will have plenty of snazzy photos and video up soon. In the meantime, we hope everyone at the Los Angeles event appreciated their experience all the more. Our cast is pretty damn awesome, yeah?

The NY Post throws down the gauntlet and ticks off five reasons why Vampire Diaries is better than Twilight, citing legacy, violence, sex, a strong, independent female lead, and how Vampire Diaries is the under-dog:
“The vampires, while pretty, are still sort of vicious,” explained Lindsay Soll, editor of MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog. “When they’re hungry and about to feed, their fangs come out — they don’t even have fangs in ‘Twilight’ — and their veins stick out. They’re not afraid to make pretty people ugly.”
They’re also not afraid to make pretty people die.
Speaking of the NY Post, PopWrap name-checks Vampire Diaries as one of the 10 Best Shows of 2009:
9. “The Vampire Diaries”
Scoff if you must, but “Vampire Diaries” haters are synonymous with the uninitiated. To know this show is to love it, and to write it off as a “Twilight” knock-off is a huge mistake. If Edward or Bella ever said anything as astute or acerbic as Stefan or Elena, I would die of shock. And with Damon, Ian Somerhalder has breathed dead life [into] one of the most devious, diabolical and delicious villains in decades. Scenes (and costumes) like this one don’t hurt either.
In case you missed our tweet yesterday: The song used in the “Chapter” promo is “Losing You” by Otto’s Daughter.
We’d also like to reiterate that the Bloodlines episode synopsis currently up on IMDb is completely fake – just in case “Mistic” Falls didn’t tip you off.
And finally, a good bit of news for TVD fans in the Netherlands: Vampire Diaries makes its official debut on January 31st at 9:30pm, NET 5.
