You knew it was only a matter of time, right? We love our polls and this one’s big: Narrow down your favorite Vampire Diaries: Season One episodes to your TOP THREE. (I can do four, so I’m sweating a bit.) Which episodes made you yell at your television with joy or frustration? Challenged or solidified your allegiances? Turned your character perspective upside down? Which episodes left you with an emotional hangover the next day and had you dissecting it, minute by minute, scene by scene, in blog post comments or in forums? Which three episodes reel you back in, over and over again?
For the first time, we’re going multiple choice. Check your three favorite episodes and see where your fellow fans land. And if you’re so inclined, let us know how and why you settled on your picks.

Tonight at 8/7c, the CW continues its summertime Vampire Diaries Season One encore with Night of the Comet (EP02). Who knew that titular comet would turn out to be so dang important? (…Okay, you can put your hands down now.)
Tune in and stick around for the CW debut of Moonlight at 9/8c, then let us know who would win in an epic smackdown: Katherine or Coraline? (Actually, give Moonlight a few weeks and then get back to us. Like Vampire Diaries, it gets better with each episode.)

It’s hard to believe the season one finale is only five weeks away. Doesn’t seem that long ago that there was a write-up in Variety, announcing that a Vampire Diaries pilot had been ordered. Take a walk down memory lane with a slew of official episode stills and behind the scenes photos from the first 10 episodes of The Vampire Diaries. We teamed up with Vampire Diaries Web to bring you over 400 new images. Click on a header to see that particular folder in the Gallery. Enjoy!
Special note: For the true die-hards and trivia buffs…pay close attention to the Haunted stills and see if you notice something interesting in the scenes with Elena, Vicki, and Jeremy. Oh, and be sure to check out what “Elena” was writing in her diary in the Pilot.

Marathon week is all about re-experiencing the Vampire Diaries, so how about a little blast from the past with some behind the scenes pictures from “Night of the Comet”? We’ve got to admit that Ian’s devilish grin in the first picture gives us a thrill of fear. Reassuring to know he’s not that evil in real life.

Night two of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon, and we hope everyone is back for more. Last night’s viewing figures are in, with the “Pilot” episode attracting 1.6 million viewers and “Night of the Comet” holding at 1.4 million viewers. Can we beat those figures tonight?
Anyhow, here’s the combined episode reaction post for “Friday Night Bites” (one of Julie Plec’s favourites, we hear) and “Family Ties” (we miss Caroline’s scarves, we really do). You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). And don’t forget to vote in the polls to let us know what you thought of the episodes.

During that dreadfully long hiatus week between the airing of “Lost Girls” and “Haunted” we posted a poll to find out which episode was your favourite at that point. “Lost Girls” was the overwhelming winner of that particular poll, beating the other episodes by over 1,000 votes. We’ve had four more episodes since then (and an even longer hiatus to somehow survive), and comments in the blog and forums seem to suggest you all think each episode has been better than the last. So, we figured we’d put that to the test. Is “Lost Girls” still your favourite episode? Or has a new episode that’s aired since won a place in your heart? Vote in the poll, and let us know what stands out for you most of all in the series so far – characters, scenes, music. Whatever you’ve found memorable, tell us in the comments.

Benjamin Ayres guest starred as the infamous William Tanner in the first three episodes of The Vampire Diaries – the Pilot, Night of the Comet, and Friday Night Bites, where he met his untimely (seriously – worst timing ever) end. Canadians may know him best as Casper “Cowboy” Jesperson from jPod, the cult favorite TV series based on Douglas Coupland’s novel; Americans will recognize him for guest appearances on shows like Psych, Smallville, The L Word, and films like Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Good Luck Chuck. His career as an actor (theater, film, television), writer (he’s currently writing and developing a pilot), and director (Scott’s Land) is wildly varied. Watch for his new 12-episode CTV series and keep up with his upcoming projects, witticisms, and music obsessions on Twitter, @BenjaminAyres.
I interviewed Mr. Ayres a few hours before the airing of History Repeating on November 12th – which happened to mark the introduction of Alaric Saltzman (played by Matt Davis), Mr. Tanner’s replacement at Mystic Falls High. (Oh, how I wish I’d known about Tanner’s “Jackass Folder” beforehand…) You can experience Mr. Tanner’s violent demise all over again during the CW’s encore airing of Friday Night Bites tonight at 8/7c. (UPDATE: Ben was kind enough to change his Twitter profile picture to a nice, up close and personal shot of his neck wounds.)
Vee: First off, I just want to say we’re eight episodes into the show now, but Mr. Tanner’s death is still my favorite.
Benjamin Ayres: Awww. [laughs]
Vee: Were you told early on that you were not long for the world?
Ayres: It was interesting because the pilot was actually filmed in Vancouver, and then when the show got picked up, they moved it to Atlanta, Georgia – which is where they’re filming it now. And I wasn’t sure, actually, if (after the pilot) I was even going to be in it. So once the show got picked up and moved to Atlanta – and at that point I had moved [from Vancouver] to Toronto to work on another show – I was unsure what was going to happen. Then I got the phone call that they still wanted me on the show and they got me a Visa in time, and then I flew down from here to work for those two episodes. But I knew I’d be in it for those two episodes. I didn’t know how I was going to die, but I knew it was only two episodes. So, you know, it was so fun to work on, but at the same time I knew I was coming back [to Toronto] to start a different show, so contractually I wouldn’t have been able to – I may have been able to do one more [episode]. Obviously I would’ve loved to have done as many as I could have, but I was very happy with getting to do what I got to do on the show and to work with those guys.
