With the Vampire Diaries set to premiere in the UK next week (Tuesday, February 2, 9pm, double dose of the pilot and “Night of the Comet”), it’s no surprise that TV guides in the UK are starting to print articles about the show. We’ve got a selection of scans for you from TV & Satellite Week, Total TV Guide, TV Quick and TV Choice (check out their extra Ian Somerhalder questions online).

Those of you who use DigiGuide will also note that the listings for the show should now have appeared. I admit it – I WooHooed when I saw them. :D
The official Spanish Vampire Diaries website has posted to say that the fifth Vampire Diaries book, “Nightfall”, is to be published in Spain on February 9, 2010. Interestingly, it won’t be titled “Nightfall”, and will carry the title “Damon” instead. We’ve got to wonder if the remaining two books in the trilogy will be named “Stefan” and “Elena”, and if that will fit thematically as the entire trilogy is reported to be about Damon. Thanks to Vampire Diaries Latinoamérica for the heads up!

A bunch of shiny, new book covers for you all to peruse. Props to the UK publishers for a bloody feather on their Nightfall cover, which is actually on-topic, and much better than the apple (of which we shall not speak). The paperback version is due out in the UK on March 4, 2010.
Germany is putting out an omnibus edition of The Awakening and The Struggle (due October, 2010), and fans can look forward to Nightfall (with a cover featuring someone who looks more like Faye from the Secret Circle than anyone from the Vampire Diaries) in May, 2010. And finally, the French publishers have won our hearts by actually giving Damon his black eyes on their cover. Fans in France can look forward to seeing Nightfall published on February 3, 2010.

Blast Presents: New Moon has a feature on the Vampire Diaries with snippets from Nina, Paul, Ian and L.J. Smith (from her blog). Thanks to Kyra over at Media Blvd for the scans!.

We tweeted this yesterday, and it impressed quite a few people (including us!). @Sonylicious recorded the process of vampirising a picture of Nina Dobrev in Photoshop. It really is fascinating, and it’s amazing the skills that Vampire Diaries fans possess.
Finally, thanks to Jen for pointing us at some Australian publication dates for the Return Trilogy. The Australian Harper Collins website is listing January 2010 for the paperback version of Nightfall, and March 2010 for the paperback version of Shadow Souls. Nightfall has already been published in hardback, but there’s no mention at the moment of a hardback release for Shadow Souls.

Not sure how this snuck past us, but looks like all four volumes of the original Vampire Diaries series – The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury and Dark Reunion – were released on audio book on October 27th, with The Return: Nightfall following…today! All volumes are unabridged, narrated by actor Rebecca Mozo, and available for purchase on Audible.com or iTunes. You can find direct links for purchase below (Nightfall not yet available through iTunes). Check out the covers below or in the Gallery.
And Red would like you all to know – being of the British persuasion and all – that it’s been officially confirmed that ITV2 will begin airing The Vampire Diaries in the U.K. this January, rather than just a nebulous “2010.” Which he already figured, but now it’s all OFFICIAL and stuff, which means he can now sip his cuppa and stop making snooty comments. Huzzah!

At last, we have some book news to report! We know, we were as shocked (and pleased!) as you are. ;) The L.J. Smith book cover goddess, Lorraine, has updated her LJS Cover Resource website with a whole host of new covers (which are worth a look at if you’re fans of L.J. Smith’s books in general, not just the Vampire Diaries). We’re reposting the Vampire Diaries ones here with her kind permission, along with some more publication information.
First up, the USA cover for The Return: Shadow Souls with Damon on the front. We’ve seen the textless version of this cover before, but this is the first we’ve seen of the cover complete with title. As far as we’re aware, publication is still set for February 9, 2010.

It transpires that The Return: Nightfall is actually being published in two parts in both Italy (below, left) and Poland (below, right). The second part was published in Poland in July, and Italy can expect to see it at some time in November.

Finally, Germany seems to have slipped in a set of original series reprints under the radar. As far as we can tell from the Amazon.de listing they’re available now and look to be a bundle deal.

Update: We’d also like to remind everyone that you have until August 18th to enter the contest to win all of the Vampire Diaries books over on the official website. Open to residents of the USA only, be sure to read the rules before entering.

As we mentioned earlier this week, the UK will be getting reprints of The Vampire Diaries later in the year. That in itself is very cool. However, the current cover for the first volume with the apple (of which we shall not speak) is something that fans seem to universally loathe. Apples on books about vampires are clearly the domain of Twilight. Given this series was written nearly 15 years before Twilight, it’s somewhat annoying to have something Twilight-esque slapped on the front rather than letting The Vampire Diaries stand on its own themes and merits.
We issued a small challenge on Twitter and LiveJournal to remove the apple (of which we shall not speak) from the cover and replace it with the iconic fruit of the Vampire Diaries series…the orange. You can read about why the orange is so iconic in the fandom under the cut, but before we get to that, here are the covers (from left to right): contributions from Jen, Jennifer Blushi and Elizabeth Diaz (thank you, guys, they’re made of awesome!). Bottom covers by Red (who is completely crazy and drove out in a rainstorm to buy an orange just for this project).
Under the cut: In which Vee answers the question, “What’s up with The Vampire Diaries and oranges?” (Book spoilers! Pychoanalysis! Some minor fangirl embarrassment! Enter at your own risk.)
NOT KIDDING, THERE’S SOME SPOILERS UNDER HERE.

Back in June we reported that HarperTeen was re-releasing The Struggle and The Awakening on the 25th August of this year. The covers hadn’t been revealed at that point, and we speculated that there may well be a TV series tie-in. Looks like we were right, as HarperTeen has now revealed the new covers, both of which which feature Elena, Stefan and Damon as portrayed by Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in the TV series. You can click on the thumbnails for larger images.

In other reprint news, the cover for the UK omnibus edition of The Fury and The Reunion (which is the title Dark Reunion goes by in the UK) has turned up on Amazon. It looks as if the apple cover (of which we will not speak) is here to stay for The Awakening and The Struggle. The publication dates for these are still being listed as the 6th August for volume one, and 3rd September for volume two.

We also have news on the Return Trilogy. According to Amazon.com, Nightfall is set for a paperback release on January 5th, 2010 in the USA, while Shadow Souls is still listed with a hardcover release date of 9th February, 2010. In the UK, Amazon.co.uk are listing January, 2010 for the Nightfall paperback release, and February, 2010 for Shadow Souls. These will likely be imports from the USA, as was the case with the hardcover version of Nightfall.
