Remember when Elena’s biggest problem was plain old water? Lots of changes since then but Elena’s drowning scene was a big challenge for the actors and crew. Entertainment Weekly has a great piece on the mechanics of filming that scene, as told by Supervising Producer Chris Grismer.
I started the actors training for the scene about two months before we shot. They had to train every weekend with dive instructors. Nina Dobrev was already PADI-certified, but those who weren’t had to become. They also had to learn how to act underwater for a long period of time without air: They had to learn how to do a scene and then get air between takes from a safety diver, who was never more than five or six feet away, instead of coming back up to the surface, which I think was pretty terrifying for them.

Tonight’s episode, My Brother’s Keeper (EP407), features the return of the Miss Mystic Falls pageant, and cast members including Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder talked to E!Online on set about who is and isn’t attending the festivities. Ian jokes:
“Damon wins the Miss Mystic Falls pageant, so he gets his tiara!” His talent? “He can put his lipstick on with his toes perfectly. No mirror, nothing,” the star says.
There are quick tidbits from Paul Wesley and Steven R. McQueen as well.

Entertainment Weekly has three different videos to help get you ready for tonight’s episode. Click over to see what Ian Somerhalder, Michael Trevino, Candice Accola, Steven R. McQueen, and Nina Dobrev have to say about My Brother’s Keeper (EP407). Here’s Ian on Damon and Elena at the Miss Mystic Falls dance:
“Remember, in the first season they had this dance where you could feel, really for the first time, that cool chemical attraction that they had,” Somerhalder said. “Seeing this again … and seeing both of them recognizing it and sort of internalizing it, it’s cool.”

There’s not much news this holiday week, but this video from TV Guide is hilarious enough to make up for it. Nina Dobrev, Joseph Morgan, Ian Somerhalder, Steven McQueen, and Candice Accola play Shag, Marry, Stake among various sets of characters on the show, and they really put a lot of thought into it. Enjoy!
