Fans in the USA have been able to enjoy the official Vampire Diaries soundtrack since last month, while we here in the UK have had to hang on a little longer. Well, the wait is over, and we can now get our paws on the CD (or a digital download) from various online retailers and out in the wild in music stores.

Please note that there’s been a change to the track listing for the UK version, with Sky Ferreira’s “Obsession” being replaced with Morning Parade’s “Under The Stars”. If you have your heart set on Sky Ferreira’s track, you can get the import version from Amazon.
Thanks to the folks over at EMI, we have three copies of the soundtrack to give away to UK fans. All you need to do is live in the United Kingdom and fill out the form below to be entered. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 1st December at midnight, and we’ll be announcing the winners on Thursday, 2nd December.
CONTEST NOW CLOSED!
PRIVACY STATEMENT: Any and all information provided in the form will only be used for this contest and will not be passed on to anyone. All info will be deleted when the contest is over. Double pinkie swear.

Thanks to @GrudgedPunkr for the heads up that The Vampire Diaries: Original Television Soundtrack tracklisting has been updated on Amazon. We blogged the original posted tracklisting a few weeks ago and there are definite changes – the track order, a remix of “Sleep Alone” by Bat For Lashes, and the retitling of the opening and closing Michael Suby score tracks. But the most notable change is the addition of “Cut” by Plumb. We’ve highlighted these changes below, though the overall track order has definitely changed. The soundtrack comes out October 12, 2010 on EMI/Virgin. Pre-order your copy!
1. Stefan’s Theme – Mike Suby
2. Running Up That Hill – Placebo
3. Currency of Love – Silversun Pickups
4. Hammock – Howls
5. Sleep Alone (909s in the DarkTimes Mix) – Bat for Lashes
6. Bloodstream (Vampire Diaries Remix) – Stateless
7. We Radiate – Goldfrapp
8. Obsession – Sky Ferreira
9. Head Over Heels – Digital Daggers
10. Down – Jason Walker
11. Beauty of the Dark – Mads Langer
12. Cut – Plumb
13. All You Wanted – Sounds Under Radio featuring Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy
14. The Fellowship – Smashing Pumpkins
15. On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix) – Gorillaz
16. 1864 – Mike Suby

Many thanks to Erin for giving us the heads up that Amazon has been updated with a product listing for The Vampire Diaries: Original Television Soundtrack, including the complete tracklisting. The soundtrack is due for release on October 12, 2010 on EMI/Virgin.
The ORIGINAL TELEVISION SOUNDTRACK: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES features exclusive fan favorites from Season One + new tracks that will be featured in Season Two.
Music supervisor Chris Mollere revealed in our interview that Stateless would definitely make the final disc, and Sounds Under Radio tweeted last week that they were in the studio working on a track specfically for the soundtrack (the tweet has since been deleted). Now we know that Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy has contributed vocals to their haunting track, “All You Wanted,” from the final moments of Let the Right One In. You can check out the full tracklisting below (everything in bold is NEW, as in a song that was not used in the first season of the show). Pre-order the soundtrack!
Complete tracklisting:
1. Vampire Diaries Theme (Intro) – Mike Suby
2. Sleep Alone – Bat for Lashes
3. Running Up That Hill – Placebo
4. Obsession – Sky Ferreira
5. Bloodstream (Vampire Diaries Remix) – Stateless
6. On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix) – Gorillaz
7. We Radiate – Goldfrapp
8. Hammock – Howls
9. The Fellowship – Smashing Pumpkins
10. Head Over Heels – Digital Daggers
11. Down – Jason Walker
12. Currency of Love – Silversun Pickups
13. Beauty of the Dark – Mads Langer
14. All You Wanted – Sounds Under Radio featuring Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy
15. Vampire Diaries Theme (Outro) – Mike Suby

Last Thursday night, I spoke to music supervisor Chris Mollere about his work on The Vampire Diaries and the show’s unique musical style – “unique” in that the show is really not tied to any specific musical style. He discusses the upcoming Vampire Diaries soundtrack, which is scheduled to drop on EMI/Virgin on October 12th, and a myriad of other topics, including his favorite episode of Season 1 (music aside), the placement of certain songs, and why he’s on Twitter every Thursday night posting up that night’s song list.
Big thanks to Chris for chatting, and an extra special thanks to Angela and Willie of the great Vampire Diaries podcast, Bite On This. They posted their own interview with Mollere last Thursday – a few hours before I was due to conduct my own. I ended up scrapping a bunch of my original questions and winging it, so I highly recommend giving their interview a listen before reading this; we make a lot of references to it throughout the interview.
You can follow Chris on Twitter at @cmollere, and he’s not just being nice when he asks followers to pass along music recommendations! He really digs the feedback, so give him a follow and let him know about artists/songs you’d love to hear on The Vampire Diaries. And you can check out all of the music featured on the show on our Music in the Series page, which includes links to legal downloads on Amazon U.S. and U.K. and iTunes U.S. and U.K.
Vee: The one thing I was most interested in talking to you about – and Bite On This totally covered it – was what your job entails because I know that you deal a lot with legal clearance and it’s not just you sitting around, listening to music all day.
Chris Mollere: I wish we just got to sit around and listen to music all day. “Oh, this is a great song! I dig this. Yeah, let’s put that in the show. Yeah, that can fit there.” I have to work into the night quite a bit because, during the day, the phone rings so much – talking to people, trying to negotiate fees, or just keeping in touch with people, finding out what else is out there that I should be checking out. And a lot of the people become friends along the way.

Vampire Diaries podcast Bite On This has an excellent interview with Chris Mollere, TVD’s music supervisor. Mollere sheds light on his job (you may be surprised to learn he isn’t just sitting around and listening to music all day), how music is selected for the show, and tells some great stories about how certain songs lined up with now-iconic scenes. Vampire-Diaries.net was also fortunate to speak with Mr. Mollere (just last night, actually) and we’ll be posting our own interview next week. In the meantime, here are some cool tidbits he dropped in both interviews:
- The official Vampire Diaries soundtrack will be released October 12th on EMI/Virgin. The soundtrack will feature selections from Season 1 and Season 2.
- He couldn’t say too much about the final tracklisting, but the special TVD Mix of “Bloodstream” by Stateless – unique to the show – will be on the soundtrack.
- He couldn’t drop any hints about artists featured in the Season 2 premiere because he’s pulling together the music for it now. “We’ve got a lot of stuff to answer. I don’t know if it’s going to be the most song-driven episode we’ve had.”
LISTEN TO THE BITE ON THIS INTERVIEW WITH CHRIS MOLLERE. And keep an eye on the blog for our own interview.

So, we’re not quite recovered yet from last night’s epic Vampire Diaries finale, and we have a lot of catching up to do news-wise, but? SO WORTH IT. We’re suffering from total FLAIL hangovers and expect there will be more with each re-watch. And according to TV By the Numbers, 3.5 million Vampire Diaries fans are feeling the same way this morning.
It was “season finale” Thursday on the CW, and Vampire Diaries adults 18-49 rating was up a tenth to a 1.7 rating, again shaming Flashforward. It’s 2.6 rating for the CW target women 18-34 was the same as last week.
UPDATE: CW press release, courtesy of the Futon Critic.
The CW’s VAMPIRE DIARIES and SUPERNATURAL delivered the network’s best Thursday night since March in total viewers (3.14million) and best male 18-49 (1.2/4) since February, according to preliminary national live plus same day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, May 13, 2010.
Last night’s finale was THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ most-watched episode since February 11 with total viewers (3.48million) and best adult 18-49 (1.7/5) since February 4. VAMPIRE DIARIES won the time period in females 12-34 (2.6/9), female teens 12-17 (2.8/10) and ties for second in women 18-34 (2.6/9) and persons 12-34 (1.9/7). Compared to last week, VAMPIRE DIARIES grew by 5% in total viewers and 6% in adults 18-49.
Dying for a stream/download? Let us hook you up!
Also, some exciting news from the show’s music supervisor, Chris Mollere, on Twitter last night.
We are working on an official Vampire Diaries soundtrack right now. Tentatively it’ll come out in October. I’ll keep ya’ll updated.
Good stuff! What songs do you think are essential on a Vampire Diaries soundtrack?
Speaking of music, you may have noticed that the version of “Bloodstream” by Stateless featured near the end of last night’s episode was dubbed a “TVD Mix.” This was definitely a new mix, unique to the show, and it’s not available for download as of this moment. But maybe we should get to banging some drums, yeah? (For what it’s worth, the original version is just as gorgeous.) Check out the complete Founder’s Day songlist.
