Those of you who have read Shadow Souls will know all about Bonnie’s opal ring. L.J. Smith has had such a ring made, and is going to be giving it away to one lucky Vampire Diaries fan.
Now you can win this version of Bonnie’s opal ring (see above). It’s made of 14 karat gold and 14 karat white gold, with one central opal and diamonds sprinkled around it. This is a gorgeous ring that sells for over $700—so pretty that I got one for myself! And if you didn’t win an autographed Shadow Souls book during the last contest–well, here’s your chance, because I’m offering ten (10) this time around as second prizes.
To find out more about the ring and how to enter the contest, head on over to L.J. Smith’s blog.
The lovely Lorraine over at the LJS Covers Resource has kindly passed on some more German book covers, a variation on the TV series-themed omnibus editions previously published.

Book news! Feels like ages since we last posted any about the book series, and to make up for that we have a whole load of new book covers from various countries for you to peruse.
First up, the cover for Nightfall in Brazil has been revealed, and the publishers, Galera Record, will also be releasing a rather nifty Vampire Diaries boxset containing books 1 – 4. There isn’t a release date for either product yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear something. Update: Nightfall is due in October, and the boxset in November. Thanks, Isabella!

As a part of the Harper Collins 28 Days of Winter Escapes, My Friend Amy has an interview with author of the Vampire Diaries, L.J. Smith in which she talks about the books, Valentine’s, and which of the Salvatore brothers she’d like to date.
Stefan and Damon are always in competition for Elena’s love, among other things . . . is it possible that the brothers will ever get over their rivalry?
Well, that happens to be the very focus of the new trilogy. In Shadow Souls and Midnight the brothers are forced to work together—or at least on the same side. But while Stefan would probably try anything for Elena, Damon is more like a half-tamed panther relentlessly stalking her every move. The question each day is: Will the good, helpful Damon come out or will the wicked, wild Damon emerge? So it really depends on Damon—who’s not very dependable.
Related to this, if you want a chance at winning a copy of The Return: Shadow Souls, head over to the 28 Days of Winter Escapes website to vote in the poll and enter the sweepstakes.
The first five Vampire Diaries books were released over in Poland back in January in omnibus editions, and you can check out the covers for them below (courtesy of the L.J. Smith Cover Resource). The Polish publishers are going a different route to everyone else, and instead of the original series being split into two volumes, they’ve gone with the first volume containing The Awakening, The Struggle and The Fury, and the second volume containing Dark Reunion and the first half of The Return: Nightfall. Given the content and endings of the various books, that is actually a logical way to split them. Maybe we’ll start seeing some more omnibus editions being split this way in the future?

Finally! A new Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls cover! For the longest time we’ve only had the cover for the USA to keep us going… and now we have one for the UK. Thematically on-topic, and a vast improvement on the apple (of which we shall not speak, beyond a brief mention that it bears an uncanny resemblance to a Twilight parody book… oh, the shame). Good job on this one, Hodder! Amazon are listing it as a paperback due for release on 6th May, 2010.
In other UK publication news, the TV series tie-in covers were also released last week. These are omnibus editions (check out the covers for volume one and volume two), and are available for order on Amazon (order volume one and volume two), or should be stocked in your local book shop.

Remember that People.com poll we mentioned a while back? The one that ruffled so many feathers with its “Second-Hottest Vampire” designation (assuming RPattz was number one)? Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley were included and, well, the results are in – as voted by People.com readers (click the screenshot to go to People.com):

Awards Show Network has followed up their interviews with Candice Accola and Katerina Graham with a brief Nina Dobrev chat:
Speaking of the Vampire Diaries ladies – the new issue of InStyle magazine features a two-page spread with Nina, Candice, Katerina, and Kayla Ewell. And the Jan/Feb issue of Men’s Health has future recurring guest star Sean Faris on its cover. (Thanks to @sabinetbfl and @Joselito4390 for the heads up.) And don’t forget to watch for Paul, Nina, and Ian on the February 2010 NYLON cover.
Thanks to book cover maven Lorraine of L.J. Smith Cover Resource, we now have some much better scans of Brazil’s The Struggle and the U.K. omnibus covers for The Awakening & The Struggle and The Fury & Dark Reunion. Click the images below to see bigger version in the Gallery.

By the way, if you’re a fan of L.J. Smith’s other series, or just a book cover fan in general, you really should swing by L.J. Smith Cover Resource and check out the plethora of international covers that are coming out. It really is a renaissance for the author’s work and Lorraine has it all.

A bunch of shiny, new book covers for you all to peruse. Props to the UK publishers for a bloody feather on their Nightfall cover, which is actually on-topic, and much better than the apple (of which we shall not speak). The paperback version is due out in the UK on March 4, 2010.
Germany is putting out an omnibus edition of The Awakening and The Struggle (due October, 2010), and fans can look forward to Nightfall (with a cover featuring someone who looks more like Faye from the Secret Circle than anyone from the Vampire Diaries) in May, 2010. And finally, the French publishers have won our hearts by actually giving Damon his black eyes on their cover. Fans in France can look forward to seeing Nightfall published on February 3, 2010.

The Russian covers for L.J. Smith books have earned an affectionate reputation in the fandom for often having nothing at all to do with the actual stories. So we’re actually pretty impressed at this offering for Russia’s first omnibus edition of The Awakening and The Struggle, featuring an artistic rendition of one of the images from the Love Sucks promos of the TV series. Not so sure about the Twilight font, but we’ll live. ;) Russian fans (and covers collectors) can get their paws on it here, though we’re sorry to say there still doesn’t seem to be any sign of The Fury, Dark Reunion or Nightfall having been translated yet. Thanks to Tiaria for sending us the information!
On the subject of the Vampire Diaries books, we have some new dates for you to put into your diaries for the Return Trilogy. Amazon.ca has Midnight listed with a release date of December 8, 2010 (anyone else find it appropriate that the final part of a trilogy about Damon is set for release on Ian Somerhalder’s birthday?). The site also lists Shadow Souls as having a publication date of January 27, 2010. However, the Harper website still has that listed as 16 March, 2010, so we advise caution before getting your hopes up over an earlier release date. Thanks to Marie for the heads up.
