NOTE: An earlier version of this review was published on Entertainment OCD. Huge thanks to Erin for expanding on her original post so we could run it on Vampire-Diaries.net!
SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet read Stefan’s Diaries: Origins but plan to, bookmark this page and come back when you’re done to read and comment. If you, like me, have already finished or don’t plan on reading it at all, continue on!
Completely devoured the new Vampire Diaries book. This latest, called Stefan’s Diaries, Vol. 1: Origins, is not a continuation of the original series but based entirely on the CW show (which was based on the original series). Don’t get dizzy. It makes complete sense. What’s funny about it (to me) is that no actual author is listed. It simply states “Based on the novels by L.J. Smith and the TV series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec.” Huh. Who knows? Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t put it down once except to tweet how much I was loving it. That said, let me address a few things I believe could have been done better…

We know a lot of U.K. and Canadian fans have been finding this in their local bookshops all week, but today is the official release day of Stefan’s Diaries: Origins.
Set during the Civil War, against a backdrop of grand estates, unimaginable riches, and deadly secrets, three teenagers in Mystic Falls, Virginia enter a torrid love triangle that will span eternity.
Brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore are inseparable until they meet Katherine, a stunning, mysterious woman who turns their world upside down. Siblings turned rivals, the Salvatores compete for Katherine’s affection, only to discover that her sumptuous silk dresses and glittering gems hide a terrible secret: Katherine is a vampire. Happy Friday! HarperTeen has something pretty sweet for you – the first seven chapters of Origins, the first volume in Stefan’s Diaries, based on The Vampire Diaries TV show mythology – FOR FREE. The book will be released on November 2, 2010, and it will also be available on Kindle and audio book (narrated by Kevin T. Collins).
Interestingly, the book is from a first-person POV (Stefan’s, obviously), which may help distinguish it from the original Vampire Diaries book series for those who have been confused. We don’t want to give anything way, so click on the cover below to read for yourself!

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the cover of Origins, the first novel in HarperTeen’s Stefan’s Diaries TV prequel series. As far as we know, the book is still scheduled for an early November release.
Amazon listings still aren’t sorted, so no link to an easy pre-order for now. We’ll let you know as soon as that changes. In the meantime, you can learn everything we know so far about the series by clicking: Stefan’s Diaries. Includes plot synopses for each book in the trilogy, and more.
So what do you think of the cover? Like the tie-in with the half-face theme? Wish they’d gone with something a little more Civil War-y? Sound off.

We got the publication dates for the new Vampire Diaries TV series tie-in books a couple of days ago, and now we have the synopses up for for all three books in the Stefan’s Diaries series. The information comes from the UK publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, via Amazon UK. The first book (Origins) looks to be a novelization of what we know from flashbacks from season one, hopefully with some more tidbits thrown in. Books two and three (Bloodlust and The Craving) are all-new stories set in the past, and the synopses are behind a spoiler cut for those of you who’d prefer to wait to be surprised. The big question we have is whether these stories will be part of the official TV series canon or not.
Now, if we could just get some covers to ogle, we’d be happy bunnies.
EDIT: Amazon US listings are currently unavailable – hopefully Amazon will get it sorted soon.
