Congratulations, TVD! It was announced today that The Vampire Diaries will be among the honorees at this year’s William S. Paley Television Festival, aka PaleyFest 2012. We covered the event in 2010, and we’re very excited to see the show heading back this year! So excited, in fact, that Vee is going to make every effort to be there herself.
From the press release:
Beverly Hills, CA, January 10, 2012 – The Paley Center for Media today announced the full lineup of honorees for the upcoming PaleyFest: The William S. Paley Television Festival, with the latest additions including freshman series New Girl and Revenge, as well as returning favorites The Office, Castle, The Vampire Diaries and Community.
If you’re interested in supporting Vampire Diaries at the event, it will be taking place at Saban Theater in Beverly Hills on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 7:00 pm. The panel is to be announced, we’ll give you more details as soon as we have them. Individual tickets go on sale to Members January 13 at 9:00 am PT, and will be on sale to the general public on January 15 at 9:00 am (Pacific Time) on Ticketweb.com.

Yahoo!TV’s has posted yet another exclusive clip from The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season DVD and this time the cast and producers discuss what sets the show apart as a television drama. Love this quote from Julie:
We always said in the pilot it’s a girl who feels dead inside and a boy who is dead inside and how they bring each other back to life.

CW Source has posted a new Paley red carpet interview with Julie Plec. She talks about Elena and Stefan’s epic love story, where Damon fits into that, the relationship between the Salvatore brothers, the characters she loves writing for, why she thinks the fans have come to love Elena, Katherine, and the Vampire Diaries fan community.
The Elvis Duran Morning Show has a radio interview with Ian Somerhalder – funny stuff!

In honor of the Vampire Diaries’ return tonight, E!’s Kristin dos Santos has more PaleyFest chatter from Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. If you’re curious what’s specifically in store for Damon these next few episodes, then watch the videos below.
The question remains, what kind of woman would stand up Ian for 145 years, hiding out (presumably) in Chicago? “One of the things we will reveal is the why,” Kevin says. “And it’s a little interesting. It’s a little diabolical. Katherine is Katherine. Katherine is a beast. She is a fickle little narcissist, and she gets what she wants. And she can have anything that she wants. And the idea that having a hot guy like that pining away for her for 145 years just can soothe an ego so well I’m sure on a rainy night.”

PaleyFest last weekend was fun times, and considering I made it to L.A. despite being sick as all get out, you’ll forgive me for taking the past week to recuperate and throw together some thoughts.
First off, it was nothing short of a pleasure (finally!) meeting Niyah (@CW_VampDiaries), Craig (@KryptonSite), and Carina (@cadlymack), and great seeing Jen (@NinaDobrevFan) again. And of course my travel partners-in-crime, Connie (@conallen) and Lucia (@Heroine_TV), who weathered my sick, pathetic butt and made me laugh so much. This fandom has a core made of awesome, wonderfully witty, hard-working folks, and the above are all class acts. You guys made my trip, so thank you. (The rest of you – follow all of the above on Twitter!)
If you’re looking for a thorough PaleyFest panel recap, I point you no further than Lucia/Heroine TV’s excellent breakdown. She touches on everything worth noting during the actual panel, and I can’t disagree with (most of) her personal observations either. (By the way, I’m the arm she grabbed in the last moments of the episode screening, heh, but more on that in a minute.)
