Whoa. WHOA. Who wants The Originals? According to THR, Julie Plec is working on a Vampire Diaries spinoff starring Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin. The idea will be set up in the April 25th episode:
In the Vampire Diaries episode slated to air April 25, Klaus returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, a town he helped build centuries ago, and is reunited with his diabolical former protege Marcel. The Secret Circle’s Phoebe Tonkin, who joined Vampire Diaries this season in a pivotal recurring role, will also star.
Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also serve as executive producers. Reminder: The spinoff is not a sure thing, but even the fact that it’s in the works is a big deal! Thoughts? Do you want to watch The Originals?

UPDATE: Give Me My Remote has confirmation from the network that this is indeed in the works.

You love his recaps – now check out Price Peterson‘s TV.com interview with new cast member Phoebe Tonkin on her character’s place on the show, what it was like moving from The Secret Circle to The Vampire Diaries, and more. On her character Hayley:
“She’s a tomboy. She lost her parents when she was younger, so she sort of grew up running around with these packs of werewolves. She’s a free spirit, she’s kind of ballsy, she stands up to people a lot, I think just because she’s had to take care of herself for so long. Yeah, so, she’s strong. But in the sense that she’s a good person. I think she has priorities of her own, but I don’t think she’s going to be manipulative like Faye—Faye would’ve done whatever it took to get what she wanted. But Hayley definitely has some secrets and some information that she’s looking for, which is kind of more or less what brings her to Mystic Falls. She’s trying to find something out.”

Claire Holt answers a variety of questions from Screen Spy about all things Rebekah in Season 4, including what high school is going to be like for her now that she’s alienated pretty much everyone she knows.
Screen Spy: How hard is it going to be for Rebekah to hold her head up and continue on in High School this year? She’s been ostracized by so many people at this point.
Claire Holt: She’s going to try to put up a bit of a wall and pretend it doesn’t affect her. She’s going to play that mean girl card. But it’s all an act. Obviously, being ostracized like that is going to be incredibly tough for her. There’s going to be some fun elements to it. She can’t really decide what she wants. One minute she doesn’t care. She wants to be the tough bad girl, and the next she really doesn’t, so there will definitely be that dynamic. I got to do some really fun scenes where that whole aspect is played up. [laughing] It’s great!
Phoebe Tonkin shared a few things with TVLine about her incoming character, Haley, and what waves she might be making in Mystic Falls, specifically with one Tyler Lockwood. Spoiler alert!
“All we know is that they were friends and that they went through something big together, so they have a special bond because of that,” replies the actress. “So they were just good friends. But I don’t know if, at the beginning, Caroline thinks that.”

Secret Circle fans aren’t the only ones who are looking forward to seeing Phoebe Tonkin on the Vampire Diaries cast this fall, we’re all pretty psyched that she’s heading for Mystic Falls. There’s been a lot of speculation about her role so far, and The Insider recently interviewed Phoebe to ask her about her character, working with Candice and Michael and telling pal Claire Holt about the new gig.
From the sound of it, she’ll fit in nicely, we strongly suspect that “no parental involvement” is a prerequisite for all extra curricular activities at MFHS.
Insider.com: What can you tell me about your character, Haley?
Phoebe: I like that she’s a world traveler, a bit of a tomboy, pretty ballsy and provocative, but not in the way Faye was on Secret Circle. I mean, she went out to manipulate and see what should could gain from people. Hayley just doesn’t have a filter. She didn’t really have parental figures in her life, and I like that kind of a person. I like that she’s tough and tries to keep up with the boys. That’s what I responded to when Julie [Plec, executive producer] first pitched the character to me.
READ THE REST OF THE INTERVIEW AT THE INSIDER.
Speaking of new characters, TV Guide revealed today that we’ll be seeing a couple of new Hybrids a few episodes into the season.
Blake Hood and Alyssa Diaz have been tapped to play his minions, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
