K!dult’s Lee Hernandez interviews Mystic Falls’ favorite (only?) history teacher, Matt Davis, about his role on The Vampire Diaries, the role he’s most recognized for, his interests outside of acting, and how those interests make it to his Twitter, @ErnestoRiley.
On The Vampire Diaries you play a history teacher. Are you a history buff in real life?
I’m an alternative history buff more than anything else. I have a passion for conspiracy theories, alternative histories, and different points of view that you don’t necessarily get exposed to in public schools.

Thanks to Kat from Portrait Magazine for the heads up on the magazine’s August cover, which features Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (by popular demand). The issue features a lot of Vampire Diaries content, including: 25 Reasons we Love Nina Dobrev, Hanging with the Vampire Diaries cast in Sydney!, Ian Somerhalder: A Star with Conviction, Confessions of a TV-Holic: Crushing on the Bad Boy…, and Rise of the Vampires (the best Vampire Diaries quotes).
Think we forgot to post these a few days ago: CW Source has new video interviews with Nina Dobrev, Steven R. McQueen & Julie Plec from Comic Con. Nina talks about the challenge of a character imitating another character, Steven discusses not discussing what’s going on with Jeremy, and Julie talks about the big surprises in the Season 1 finale.
And finally, thanks to Ian Somerhalder Italy, here’s Ian’s shot from L’uomo Vogue. Click to see a bigger version in the Gallery.

TV Guide’s Natalie Abrams caught up with Julie Plec, who sheds more light on the plethora of Season 2 tidbits that came out of Comic Con this past weekend, and also explains that certain devastating events happen for a reason.
TVGuide.com: How close will you stay to the novels as you carry on?
Plec: The deeper we get into the series, ironically, the more we’re going to be taking from the books. That’s cool because we strayed so far so quickly, just by definition of trying to shape a good story in the right way for television. To find ourselves naturally returning to the source material and the villains that you met, it’s kind of awesome.
Villainssssss?

And MTV’s Hollywood Crush has posted two more videos from their Comic Con sitdown with the Vampire Diaries cast. You can check out a brief video of Julie discussing Elena and Katherine here, and watch some amusing “speculation” about werewolf effects from Paul Wesley and Matt Davis below, with more reliable insight from Michael Trevino:
By the way, the TCAs are in full-swing in L.A., and the CW’s session is getting ready to begin as you read this. Thanks to @stayingin for giving us all a glimpse of our very first new Season 2 promo shot. It’s not the best quality, but it is shiny new promo of Paul, Nina, and Ian!

When you have so many people on one stage, you know you’re not going to get the most in-depth commentary on any one particular thing, but Kevin Williamson managed to drop a few cool tidbits during TV Guide’s Hot List 2010 panel at Comic Con on Friday. Joining Kev on the panel: Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, and Morris Chestnutt of V, Chi McBride (Human Target), Zach Levi (Chuck), Julie Benz (No Ordinary Family), and Summer Glau, David Lyon, and Keith David of The Cape. And the whole shebang was moderated by Craig Tomashoff of TV Guide (he also moderated the Vampire Diaries PaleyFest panel in March). Footage of the Nina, Paul, and Ian TV Guide Magazine photoshoot played on the big screen (Jen managed to snag a cool shot of Nina!, as well as the final scene of Founder’s Day. And TV Guide Magazine tweeted a cool shot of KW talking.
Some KW soundbites (courtesy of Jen via @tvdnews, unless otherwise stated):
First episode of the new season was wrapped on Thursday; “finger cliffhanger” also wrapped.
Katherine’s finale appearance and the kiss was planned from day one.
“I think Nina does a remarkable job…she’s going to wow everybody this year, playing both roles.” (via @TVGuideMagazine)
The aim of Vampire Diaries is to fall between Twilight and True Blood. (via @MonstersofTV)
They’re “going to blow the lid off mystic falls. The werewolf will show up & the triangle is now a square.” (via @TVGuideEIC)
MORE PHOTOS IN GALLERY. (Via Daylife)
The Warner Bros. party was also tonight, but we’ll catch up with that in the morning. In the meantime, you can check out an assortment of randomness: Michael talking with press (via @dreadcentral), Nina hanging with a Stormtrooper and with Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, annnnnnnnnd @TVGuideEIC caught up with Ian Somerhalder at the WB party and he had something very interesting to say about what Damon may or may not have known during the final moments of the finale (spoilery!).

Steven R. McQueen sightings were popping up on Twitter yesterday afternoon, but thanks to Karen for confirming he did indeed appear at the Piranha 3D screening and panel in San Diego last night. You may remember that the film’s Friday spot was pulled from the official Comic Con schedule for having footage that was a bit too adult for the general Con audience. Well, Dimension Films scheduled an off-site Piranha 3D event at Regal Horton Plaza, but there was no specific listing of which cast members would definitely be in attendance (plus, it was bumped up a day). Well, McQueen was there and, thanks to Daylife, you can check out a few photos below and see the rest in the Gallery. You can also check out a few snapshots via Karen’s Twitter. Here’s a few Twitter comments we received about meeting Steven:
@kxyfan: Mr. McQueen was so nice. I just wanted a pic of him but he insisted that someone take a pic of us together <3
@Cassandragon: Met SRM last night at Piranha! Got a pic w/ him and he signed my VD poster. Couldn’t have been a nicer guy. SUPER sweet.
