The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIf you’re a TVD book fan that’s been following Kevin Williamson’s occasional references to “Friday Night Bites” on Twitter and wondering how long we’d have to wait for the football, the answer is: not long at all. Looks like episode 102 will put the game front and center. Julie Plec says that “Friday Night Bites” is the tentative title for the episode, if the PTB let them keep it. Go, Wildcats!

Actor Elizabeth Lynn Hingley (looks like Elizabeth Keener is her maiden name) seems to be playing the uncredited role of ‘Girl’ in what IMDb lists as Episode #1.2 (probably 101) of The Vampire Diaries. She also has the part listed on her blog. We’re pretty sure a role name like that indicates nothing good on a vampire show.

Cynthia over at SF Universe has a brief report on The Vampire Diaries panel at Comic Con this past weekend. Sounds like she wasn’t too happy with the crowd either.

Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue is dedicated to vampires and they’ve included Ian Somerhalder (#9 – “There’s something about Somerhalder that makes you want to slap him, then attack him”) in their 14 Hot Vampires: The Men gallery. Features a new photo from the pilot (or at least one we don’t recall seeing before). You can also vote for your favorite male bloodsucker. No mention of any substantial Vampire Diaries features in the issue, but we’ll be on the look-out.

The Vampire Diaries TVFirst off, let’s get something straight right now: this talk of The Vampire Diaries cast looking like they didn’t want to be there during the panel? Come on. After you film ’til 6 a.m., hop on a cross-country flight, endure a day of non-stop appearances and press (answering the same questions over and over), and there’s no sleep slotted in there anywhere, see how you feel. I’m impressed they were able to form coherent sentences, let alone smile and make a marathon run of it like they did.

And it was a marathon. My (nowhere-near-as-hectic) day started off at the Lost panel – I’m going to miss that show so hard, guys, I can’t even tell you – and while there was no appearance from Mr. Somerhalder (see above), he was there in spirit during a hilarious and poignant “In Memoriam” tribute video that highlighted the various character deaths on the show. But, as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Boone fans will have something to look forward to in Lost‘s final season – with the full cooperation of Vampire Diaries executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. As they commented during the panel, they’re Lost fans too, and friends with showrunner Damon Lindelof.

My cell reception in Hall H was crap, but somehow I managed to catch KW’s tweet that the Vampire Diaries signing at the Warner Bros. booth was happening at 1:30 p.m., not 3 p.m. as had originally been listed. I don’t know if it was bumped up due to a scheduling conflict with press or the vocal concern from a lot of fans that it was too close to the actual panel (yes, three hours is too close, trust me), but it was welcome news.

By the way, Vampire Diaries bags were everywhere all weekend, and they’re starting to pop up on eBay. I never managed to snag one, alas. I’m also told there were buttons at the WB booth but never saw them myself. I did, however, see the giant “Trio in the Grass” (as we’ve dubbed it) banner hanging from the ceiling for all to see, and that same image adorned the posters used during the signing.

If you’ve never been to Comic Con, it’s difficult to describe the size and scope of the WB booth, but it’s one of the cornerstones of the Exhibit Hall floor, and the crowd that gathers around it – especially with the constant stream of signings going on – is often ten people deep around the perimeter. After attempting to find the line for the signing and giving up, I just tried to snap as many (crappy) cell phone pics as possible to get up on Twitter immediately. Paul, Ian, Nina, Julie, Kevin, and Bob arrived about 10 minutes before the signing, hanging out on the second story and snapping photos with their phones.

There have been a few new Vampire Diaries pictures cropping up over the past 24 hours, so we thought we’d make a post for them in addition to our general Comic Con link spam post. The highlight is one of the photos Greystone Mansion shoot with Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), all of them looking gorgeous.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe Vampire Diaries cast and crew presence on Twitter just keeps growing! Zach Roerig (who plays Matt Donovan) can be found @zgeorge222, and Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore, of course) has set up shop @iansomerhalder1 (thanks to the folks over at MediaBlvd for helping confirm – yes, it’s really him, and he’s obviously in the process of reclaiming his name from a Twitter squatter, so here’s hoping he’s able to drop the “1″ soon). We eagerly await others to succumb to Twitter’s siren call – kinda makes the wait ’til September a bit easier, no?

A quick guide for reference:

LEGIT:
@MSiega (Marcos Siega, director)
@kevwilliamson (Kevin Williamson, writer/executive producer)
@julieplec (Julie Plec, writer/executive producer)
@KaterinaGraham (Katerina Graham, “Bonnie”)
@iansomerhalder1 (Ian Somerhalder, “Damon”)
@zgeorge222 (Zach Roerig, “Matt”)
@paulmsommers (Paul M. Sommers, Director of Photography)
@M_Trevino (Michael Trevino, “Tyler”)

FAKE:
@NinaDobrev
@IanSomerhalder (for now, anyway!)

And if you’re already in San Diego for the Comic Con shindig, don’t forget that the Warner Bros. Pilot Preview Night, featuring The Vampire Diaries (along with V and Human Target) is tonight (Wednesday, July 22nd), 6-9 p.m., in Ballroom 20. If you see it, share your thoughts here (ix-nay on the book spoilers, unless you hide them!) or in the discussion forums.

If you miss the screening tonight, no worries – they’ll be showing the pilot again at Saturday’s panel.

Vampire Diaries TVSo there’s this little event called Comic Con International happening in San Diego this week. The American half of Vampire-Diaries.net (that’s me!) will be there Friday afternoon through Sunday to stand in a lot of lines, stand in even more lines, and chug bottled water at every opportunity. It will be awesome.

Oh, and there’s Vampire Diaries stuff going on as well! Check out the full schedule. I’m sure there will be lots to say about the pilot screening, the Q&A, the laughter, the tears (guessing there will be screaming, too)… We’re rocking this trip in a completely last-minute, take-it-as-it-comes way and, hey, if we’re not having fun, we’re doing it wrong, right? This ain’t Vanity Fair.

Fair warning: If you follow us on Twitter (@tvdnews), please know that we’ll be very active on Friday and especially Saturday (the day of the Vampire Diaries panel). In addition to my tweets, Red will be up at some ridiculous UK hour to re-tweet others’ commentary and posting other interesting tidbits that come across the radar from San Diego. We’ll be making use of the #sdcc and #tvd hashtags if you want to follow the conversation that way. (Sorry, #vampirediaries eats up way too many characters.) We’ll also have a static blog post up that we’ll update throughout the weekend with news, links, etc.

Speaking of other interesting tidbits – that’s where YOU come in. If you’re going to the Con, we’d love for you to share your photos and video, your thoughts, and anything else you feel like tossing our way. You can @tvdnews on Twitter, drop us a line at cc [at] vampire-diaries [dot] net, or even leave comments here in the blog. This is TVDtv’s pop culture coming out party – they’ll be face to face with the fans (which is what Comic Con is all about) for the first time. It’s kind of a big deal, yeah? Let’s document it for posterity.

See you there!

The Vampire Diaries TVWe’ve had word from some Australian friends that new Freeview channel Go! is set to air the Vampire Diaries Down Under later on in the year. While we don’t have any confirmed dates yet, Connie – one of our Twitter pals – has been kind enough to ferret out an article on the subject, and Scarimonious has pointed us at a nifty Australian news video with some behind the scenes footage of the cast during the pilot. The main Vampire Diaries section starts at around the 1:45 mark for those who want to skip straight to it.

So, that’s the USA, Canada and Australia set to get the TV series. Can we get some news on it airing in the United Kingdom, please? ;)

The Vampire DiariesComic Con International has released its official programming schedule (except Sunday, so this list could very well grow). Some of this may be a little redundant now, but there is new info. Here’s everything in one post:

Preview Night: Wednesday, July 22, 6-9 p.m. in Ballroom 20
Warner Bros. Special Sneak Peek Pilot Screening

Comic-Con and Warner Bros. Television proudly present exclusive pilot premiere screenings of some of the most buzzed-about new TV series of the 2009–2010 season—Human Target, V, and The Vampire Diaries—as well as an exclusive preview trailer for additional upcoming shows.

We think the pilots will be airing in that order, but don’t quote us on that.

Friday, July 24, 6:15-7:15 p.m. in Ballroom 20
TV Guide Magazine: Sci-Fi Hot List
TV Guide magazine takes an in-depth look at some of the most buzzed-about new and returning TV series, featuring the hottest talent from in front of the camera and behind the scenes. TV Guide executive editor Craig Tomashoff moderates this panel that offers the inside scoop, along with special surprises. Scheduled participants include Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Zachary Levi (Chuck), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Scott Peters (executive producer, V), Rebecca Romijn (Eastwick), Kevin Williamson (executive producer, The Vampire Diaries), Scott Wolf (V), John Cho (Flash Forward), Marc Guggenheim (producer, Flash Forward), Allison DuBois (the real person behind Medium), and others.

Saturday, July 25, 1:30-2:15 p.m. at Warner Bros. booth
The Vampire Diaries Signing
Guests: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, and Bob Levy.

Saturday, July 25, 4-5 p.m. in Room 8
We Control The Vertical: Writing and Producing For Television
TV’s most talented writers and show runners discuss the writing and production of your favorite television shows, past and present, and share amusing anecdotes from the television trenches. Starring Dave Simkins (Warehouse 13, Blade: The TV Series, Dresden Files), Javier Grillo-Marxuach (The Middleman, Day One), Charles Murray (V, Criminal Minds, Castle), Sarah Watson (The Unknowns, Parenthood), Gabrielle Stanton (Vampire Diaries, Moonlight), Steve Kriozere (NCIS, Dead & Deader, V.I.P.), Steve Melching (The Clone Wars, The Batman), Matthew Federman (Human Target, Jericho), and Ashley E. Miller (Fringe, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Moderated by Mark A. Altman (Free Enterprise, Castle).

Saturday, July 25, 5:55-7 p.m. in Room 6BCF
The Vampire Diaries Pilot Screening and Q&A

The Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Paul Wesley (Killer Movie), and Ian Somerhalder (Lost) appear with executive producer/writer Kevin Williamson (Scream), writer Julie Plec (Kyle XY), and executive producer Bob Levy (Gossip Girl), as the series makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the much-talked-about pilot, followed by a Q&A. This edgy and romantic new drama, in which two vampire brothers—one good, one evil—are at war for the soul of one girl, is based upon the bestselling book series of the same name. Lynette Rice of Entertainment Weekly moderates. From Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM ET/PT this fall on The CW, premiering September 10.

Yes, as we pointed out on Twitter, it’s true: the True Blood and Vampire Diaries panels are overlapping on Saturday. Bummer.

As of right now, there’s no appearance/autograph schedule available for the Warner Bros. booth (which was insanity last year), but you can keep up with the studio’s plans at their Comic Con site and on Twitter (@thewbdotcom).

Vampire-Diaries.net will be in San Diego, live-tweeting (@tvdnews) from the TVD panel and all that fun stuff. We’ll post more details the week of the Con.

And yeah, we’ll have more about Gabrielle Stanton in a bit.

UPDATE: Yes, there is a lot of speculation floating about Ian Somerhalder possibly putting in an appearance at the Lost panel on Saturday (11 a.m.-12 p.m. in Hall H). Half the fun of the Lost panel is in the surprises – anything could happen. Regardless of whether Ian shows up or not, I’d urge any fan of the show to attend. It’s easily one of the most entertaining hours you’ll have while there.

A new Stefan and Elena-centric TV spot for the Vampire Diaries has been released. There’s no new footage in this video, but we know that plenty of you are interested in seeing these clips (we do now, anyway!). It’s a 30 second re-cut of what we’ve already seen in previous promos and TV spots, along with the tagline ‘the story of their love will be written in blood’.

For those who will be dying to know, the music featured in the trailer is “Help, I’m Alive” by Metric. You can find links to the lyrics and more on our music page.

Update: Written in Blood promo with Portuguese subtitles and Spanish subtitles.

Many thanks to everyone who emailed us about this, worried we’d missed it. Don’t worry, we hadn’t. We weren’t in a hurry to get it up since there wasn’t any new footage. But thanks for setting us straight on that. ;)
