L.J. SmithAs a part of the Harper Collins 28 Days of Winter Escapes, My Friend Amy has an interview with author of the Vampire Diaries, L.J. Smith in which she talks about the books, Valentine’s, and which of the Salvatore brothers she’d like to date.

Stefan and Damon are always in competition for Elena’s love, among other things . . . is it possible that the brothers will ever get over their rivalry?
Well, that happens to be the very focus of the new trilogy. In Shadow Souls and Midnight the brothers are forced to work together—or at least on the same side. But while Stefan would probably try anything for Elena, Damon is more like a half-tamed panther relentlessly stalking her every move. The question each day is: Will the good, helpful Damon come out or will the wicked, wild Damon emerge? So it really depends on Damon—who’s not very dependable.

Related to this, if you want a chance at winning a copy of The Return: Shadow Souls, head over to the 28 Days of Winter Escapes website to vote in the poll and enter the sweepstakes.

The first five Vampire Diaries books were released over in Poland back in January in omnibus editions, and you can check out the covers for them below (courtesy of the L.J. Smith Cover Resource). The Polish publishers are going a different route to everyone else, and instead of the original series being split into two volumes, they’ve gone with the first volume containing The Awakening, The Struggle and The Fury, and the second volume containing Dark Reunion and the first half of The Return: Nightfall. Given the content and endings of the various books, that is actually a logical way to split them. Maybe we’ll start seeing some more omnibus editions being split this way in the future?

Cosmopolitan.com has posted a new behind the scenes video of Paul Wesley and Kellan Lutz during the Fun Fearless Males 2010 photoshoot. (See the pictures.) Paul talks about hanging out with Kellan in Vancouver during Vampire Diaries pilot/New Moon filming, the vampire phenomenon, and the vampires of Vampire Diaries.

Polish magazine Tele Tydzień published a brief interview with Paul Wesley in which he discussed The Vampire Diaries and his own Polish background. A very, very big thanks to Vampire Diaries Poland for providing the scan and offering to translate! (Notice the slightly different Lost Girls still? Click the article to enlarge and click the cut to read the translated interview.)

The StruggleAt last, we have some book news to report! We know, we were as shocked (and pleased!) as you are. ;) The L.J. Smith book cover goddess, Lorraine, has updated her LJS Cover Resource website with a whole host of new covers (which are worth a look at if you’re fans of L.J. Smith’s books in general, not just the Vampire Diaries). We’re reposting the Vampire Diaries ones here with her kind permission, along with some more publication information.

First up, the USA cover for The Return: Shadow Souls with Damon on the front. We’ve seen the textless version of this cover before, but this is the first we’ve seen of the cover complete with title. As far as we’re aware, publication is still set for February 9, 2010.

The Return: Shadow Souls cover

It transpires that The Return: Nightfall is actually being published in two parts in both Italy (below, left) and Poland (below, right). The second part was published in Poland in July, and Italy can expect to see it at some time in November.

Finally, Germany seems to have slipped in a set of original series reprints under the radar. As far as we can tell from the Amazon.de listing they’re available now and look to be a bundle deal.

The Awakening: Germany 2009 The Struggle: Germany 2009
The Fury: Germany 2009 Dark Reunion: Germany 2009

Update: We’d also like to remind everyone that you have until August 18th to enter the contest to win all of the Vampire Diaries books over on the official website. Open to residents of the USA only, be sure to read the rules before entering.
