The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesEntertainment Weekly finally posts their conversation with Vampire Diaries‘ costume designer, Jennifer Bryan, and she may just answer everything related to leather jackets you have ever wanted to know…in your life. And if you’ve been absolutely dying to know the designers behind the Salvatore brothers jackets, she’s got that answer for you, too. In fact, she’s full of answers about everything from characters’ individual styles to the science of taking a shirt off (the fabric matters or something…?). It’s a fun read!

And the actors are as excited for the period costumes as the fans are?
They like it. Sometimes I’ll have to explain to them. “Well, what is this for?” “People wore this because so and so.” I have to give them a little history lesson so they understand what they’re wearing, the purpose of it. Back then, a lot of what you wore was determined by your activity. You’d change clothes more often. You’d have morning clothes, evening clothes. Women of a certain economic stature would change two or three times a day. Not like we do now, throw on jeans and that’s it. So this is what you’d wear if you were home, this is what you’d wear if you were coming out of a carriage. They get into it.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesMat Beck of Entity FX, the special effects house behind The Vampire Diaries, gives Animation World Network a behind-the-scenes peek at their work on the show. This great interview touches on everything from the vampire eye effects to Bonnie’s feather-floating scene, and gets into software talk for all the tech geeks in the house. Beck also gives some vague insight into what’s coming next.

MB: We also add a lot of blood in spots. One of the advantages of not doing blood on set is you can adjust it later on to set the right tone. We’ve tracked blood onto mouths of vampires who have just been feeding; we tracked wounds onto their victims; pools of blood on the floor when someone has just landed. Killing vampires with a stake involves a lot of discoloration and a wide area of grossly bulging veins tracked all over neck and face.

Paul Wesley as Stefan SalvatoreIESB has a thorough compilation of Paul Wesley quotes from the Television Critics Association press tour last week. Most of this you’ve already seen elsewhere, but there are some new nuggets buried in there.

Michael Trevino posted a few pics from the set on Tuesday afternoon, including what we shall call “Portrait with Shoulder Pads” – a candid of himself with Zach Roerig and Paul Wesley, all decked in football practice gear. They look hot. No, really – we hope there was an arsenal of bottled water and spray misters. (And yes, they’re the Mystic Falls Timberwolves. We know Kevin Williamson confirmed the mascot would be Wildcats – as some of you reminded us on Twitter – but circumstances are circumstances, and hey, we think Timberwolves is rather clever. You never know, maybe they’ll appear as a rival team at some point.)

Marcos Siega tweeted that prep work for episode 4 is underway, while episode 103 began filming yesterday at the Lockwood Mansion. KW promises “blood and hormones run amuck.” That sounds fun.

Hollywood Crush has an article and video interview (only viewable in the USA) with Kevin Williamson in which he reassures readers that Vampire Diaries “isn’t Twilight at all”, and more of a “modern-day sexy Dark Shadows“. Seems like a good thing to us.

A short ‘TV to Talk About’ promo clip has turned up on YouTube with Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Katerina Graham all making an appearance.

Vampire Diaries BG passed along a photo of Vampire Diaries elevator door advertising in Los Angeles that appeared in a Bulgarian newspaper. We also hear TVD has a definite presence in NYC’s Times Square right now (if you have pics, we’d love to see them!), as well as throughout the city.

Finally, our caption contest ends tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. Western U.S. time. There are Vampire Diaries bags, posters and buttons up for grabs (pictured below), so head on over to the contest post, take a look at the pic and wow us with your witty one-liners before the entry deadline.

The Vampire DiariesIn news that will undoubtedly make the Moonlight fans in the house happy (and there are quite a few of you!): Gabrielle Stanton, who served as co-executive producer (along with Harry Werksman) on the short-lived CBS vampire detective series, is a consulting producer on The Vampire Diaries. (She and Werksman penned the episode Fleur De Lis, aka the episode that ensured my position on Team Coraline for life. Whatever, Beth Turner.)

Genre fans will know her best from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Farscape, and Moonlight, but she’s more widely known for her work on Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy and, more recently, Nathan Fillion’s ABC show Castle.

Thanks to Julie Plec for confirming Stanton’s role in the series. Stanton will be taking part in the We Control the Vertical: Writing and Producing for Television panel at Comic Con on Saturday. Sadly, it lets out less than an hour before The Vampire Diaries panel begins, so doubt we’ll be able to catch it ourselves. If you happen to attend and some Vampire Diaries discussion goes down, please let us know!

Marcos SiegaLooks like Nina Dobrev (Elena) and Kayla Ewell (Vicki) are making the publicity rounds (Paul Wesley did the same thing a few weeks ago), including stops at Seventeen and Self. The latter has a brief blurb with photos – and what’s this about Nina making a bracelet out of forks?

With filming starting soon, we just want to remind everyone that if you’re not following director Marcos Siega on Twitter, you might want to reconsider! He’s currently with The Vampire Diaries crew in Georgia, preparing for filming (starts Tuesday the 21st), but has found the time to tweet a few fun snippets about location scouting (hi, guys!) and set building. (We’re happy to see he hasn’t needed a poncho yet.)

Also, another reminder, confirmed publicly by Siega himself: the only Vampire Diaries cast member on Twitter is Katerina Graham (Bonnie). (Yes, that means @NinaDobrev is NOT Nina Dobrev – which was also confirmed through Katerina by Nina herself.)

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIndustry database Inbaseline.com is listing Bryan Holdman as Executive Story Editor for the 2009-2010 season of The Vampire Diaries. (So he’s the guy in charge of supervising the writers, banging the scripts into shape for production, etc.) Holdman was previously a writer and executive story editor for Kyle XY, which many of you know by now is TVDtv Executive Producer Julie Plec’s former show. He also wrote episodes for Everwood (which featured TVDtv actor Steven R. McQueen) and Hidden Palms (Kevin Williamson’s last television venture).

Andrew Kreisberg has joined the show as Co-Executive Producer (second-in-command, if you will). His previous producer credits include Eli Stone, Fringe, and Boston Legal, and he was also a writer and story editor on The Simpsons.

So, the Vampire Diaries chatter amongst the Atlanta acting community has been non-stop since the CW upfront, and just the other day director Marcos Siega confirmed he was headed to Georgia once he wrapped Dexter. And now we see that Atlanta is listed as the shooting location on InBaseline.com. So, yes, that all adds up to quasi-official confirmation that The Vampire Diaries is shooting in and around Atlanta, Georgia, as not-so-subtly hinted at by Williamson last month.

And, finally, Jezebel in the TVD forums alerted us to this nugget of information on Katerina Graham’s Wikipedia page and we’ve confirmed with Julie Plec: Bonnie’s last name is BENNETT in the pilot (not McCullough, and Plec does say “as of the current cut”).
