Just So You Know visited the set of The Vampire Diaries back in November and has posted a brief behind the scenes video of their experience. See Michael Trevino’s bizarre effect on lights, Zach Roerig’s amusement at loud noises, Nina Dobrev’s dedication to the cause of chocolate, and other peeks at on-set goings-on and promotional photo shoots. You can also check out photos during the filming of tomorrow night’s episode Unpleasantville, featuring Nina and Candice Accola.

Lots of new interviews to share today (thanks to everyone who bombarded us with links!)…

SciFind talks to Nina Dobrev about Elena, the vibe on the set, her own (recent!) paranormal experience, and the choice between Stefan or Damon:

I don’t know because if I were in [Elena's] position I would be torn too. I think separately they are very different; Stefan is the romantic, determined, very committed man who is so deeply in love with her and would do anything to protect her. Damon is very playful and fun and open and that’s what Stefan lacks, he doesn’t have this openness, he keeps secrets and doesn’t tell her everything so basically together, they make the perfect man. At the beginning of the series, it’s just Stefan all the time, but it might not always be that way.

The gossip blogs’ tongues are wagging over the prospect of Nina Dobrev and Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl guest starring on each other’s shows. Considering Bob Levy is executive producer on both shows, it’s not entirely out of the question, but we find it funny that the articles mention that Leighton and Nina met on the set of The Roommate when it’s Katerina Graham who co-stars with Ms. Meester in the film? And speaking of Nina, thanks to Nina Dobrev Fan for this peek at Nina’s recent shoot in ZINK! magazine (via I Heart Vampire Diaries). And check out this behind the scenes video of her SELF magazine photo shoot.

Paul Wesley reveals details of his first kiss over at Seventeen (via JSYK) and his worst audition experience in the new issue of VMan (courtesy of JustJared).

“Once I finished a read, looked at the director, and said, ‘That didn’t go very well, did it?’ He gave me a stern look, crossed his arms, and said, “No, it didn’t.’ I was devastated.”

PopStar talks with Ian Somerhalder about Damon, Katherine, and the popularity of vampires. Here’s what he had to say about the show’s success:

You always hope that what you do will do well. That’s why you do something, in the hope that it’ll take off, that you’ll enjoy yourself and that people will enjoy it with you. We never really had many expectations, which I think is the best way to protect yourself. I remember that (producer) Julie Plec made a joke one time. It was after we’d premiered and we were doing quite well. She said that we didn’t really have any expectations, but secretly, we wanted to take over the world. That was pretty funny because you want your show to succeed, you want it to be good, and luckily we have writing that is superb and everything — the acting, the way it’s shot, the way it’s directed — works. As long as we can keep making it work, I don’t think anybody can snicker anymore.

And he talks Stefan and Damon’s relationship, fan letters (some from prison), and shooting in haunted locations over at TV Choice Magazine:

We shot in a plantation in Georgia where 150 slaves were mass murdered after the Emancipation Proclamation. The slaves were supposed to be freed and this one plantation owner said no. It was haunted. I am the most cynical person, I don’t believe in anything supernatural, but that place had some energy. It’s in the top 10 most haunted places in the United States. It’s written up all over the place.

And he has this to say over at SciFind:

What has been your highlight of the series so far?
“There are so many of them. There’s a highlight around every corner, there’s something new and interesting and fun and amazing. Just being on the show in general is a highlight.”

And thanks to VDO for the heads up on this amusing video interview with Ian over at People.com. Who do you think would win a fight between Damon and Edward Cullen? (The answer seems pretty obvious to us.)

We have some hi-res versions of Ian’s recent Vampire Diaries promo pics (as always, click to see bigger versions in the Gallery):

The CW has released a standalone People’s Choice spot for The Vampire Diaries‘ Favorite New TV Drama win:

Speaking of People’s Choice – remember that video of Paul and Nina we mentioned? The brief one that aired during the show, accepting Hollywood Style’s “Hottest Couple”? Thanks to Euras for pointing out that it’s now on YouTube – within the first 25 seconds of the video.

Often press runs for the show blur together and we’re not sure if something is an entirely new interview (hell, could be quotes from TCA or the London press tour, no idea), but we’ll mention it just in case: United Arab Emirates’ The National has an interview with Ian. The Vampire Diaries debuted in the UAE Monday night on MBC Action and, reading the article, it seems the network’s taking a gamble on how the show will play in the Middle East. You can also watch a new promo for the show (of so-so quality).

“I change all the time and my character changes with me,” he said with a laugh in response to a question about his somewhat boyish appearance in the show’s pilot in contrast to his sultry handsomeness in the promotional photos. “In every episode, Damon looks different. He really has the power to do whatever he wants and that includes changing his look.”

Read the interview over at the National.

And we’ll post a reminder this weekend, but Ian filmed a spot for Live with Regis & Kelly today. His segment will air next Monday, January 18th. (The week Vampire Diaries returns to your televisions.)

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThanks to RadarOnline for dropping us a line this morning about their chat with Sara Canning. (Which perked us up, must say. Think the only thing rarer than a Sara interview is a Steven R. McQueen one – cough.) She talks about moving in with Nina Dobrev, adjusting to Atlanta’s decidedly non-Canadian weather, and hints that those meaningful glances between Jenna and Alaric might graduate to…oh, well, who knows with this show? At least she seems to love working with Matt Davis, whom she deems “hysterical.” (But will Jenna come up with a snappy nickname for Alaric? “Scumfell” was a beautiful thing.)

Canning is definitely having fun with her role despite not being one of the high school characters. “I think Jenna is really fun to play because she is a parental figure on the show but is still really young herself,” the 22-year old actress said. “She is really feisty, spirited, and headstrong. And she’s still going through those rough patches with guys.”

Read the entire interview on RadarOnline.

The CW had a cocktail party following the TCA panel this past Saturday (Bloody Marys in honor of Vampire Diaries, nice one) and they’ve released some photos from the event, which you can view below, courtesy of Cynthia over at SFUniverse. (That’s CW president Dawn Ostroff with Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder). Note the Love Sucks threesome poster (the other one) – slightly different version than ones we’ve seen before.

@LilMissX has also posted some nice behind the scenes candids from TCA, including shots of Kevin Williamson and Nina, Ian with Dawn Ostroff and Nina and Ian playing with some Vampire Diaries promo goodies.

Lots of recaps coming out of the TCA panel, but this tidbit in particular gave us a good laugh this morning (and we’re begging the PTB to include this on the season one DVD set, por favor) – courtesy of Teen Television, re: on-set bloopers:

Paul: There was that blooper when you [Nina] were Katherine, and you had that really long dress and fell. She was trying to be all sexy.
Ian: Adorable and sexy.
Paul: And then she was “Boys, chase me”.
Ian: And then she like “wham,” and all you just see are her knickers.
Nina: And then I couldn’t get up because it was so much dress that I was just sitting there, like “save me.”
Paul: We’re hysterically laughing. Then we were like, “Are you okay?”
Ian: We didn’t even help her! It’s on camera. [She falls] and her petticoat goes up.

We’ve got a lot to catch up on, so let’s get started, shall we? First up, a new Vampire Diaries mini-teaser promo spliced from the Next Chapter promo.

Thanks to Kimberlee for the heads up on this pre-Christmas tidbit from Television Without Pity -- Year in Review 2009: TV’s Most Valuable Performers. The list inludes such fan favorites Misha Collins (Castiel) from Supernatural, Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester) from Glee, John Lithgow (Arthur Mitchell) from Dexter, and a little someone named Ian Somerhalder.

Ian Somerhalder: TWoP's Most Valuable Players

Wow, that was only about 20% snarky -- rather restrained for TWoP.

The Vampire Diaries rates an A- in TV Guide’s New TV Report Card:

The Vampire Diaries (The CW)
The Good: Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) are a hot couple. Stefan’s acerbic brother, Damon (Lost’s Ian Somerhalder), is refreshing in the face of all this lurve.
The Bad: There have been a lot of revelations already. What’s left?
Grade: A-

Candice Accola will chat with Artists On Demand (via Blog Talk Radio) on Monday, January 18th at 7pm ET/4pm PT:

Candice Accola, from the hit vampire TV Show “Vampire Diaries” joins us to talk about her role on the show, her history in the business, and a few of her upcoming movies, “Kingshighway” and “The Truth About Angels”.

And thanks to everyone who sent us the link to this Female First interview with Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley during their recent promo trip to London. They talk about the usual -- working in Atlanta, the success of the show, and their thoughts on Stefan and Elena.

FemaleFirst: So, Paul, do you find it hard to play a vampire as they’re such conflicted characters?

Paul: It’s certainly challenging to make any character complex and interesting but when I read the script, I sort of fell into Stefan and related to him and I have no idea why. I could sit here and psychologically analyse myself, and I probably have and come with reasons why I relate to him but in an abridged version I think there are a lot of similarities between Stefan and myself. So, there’s difficulty in that, but what we do is difficult and that’s why I do it, I need challenge in what I’m doing.

FF: Nina, you’ve acted in both this and a television film called Never Cry Werewolf, so do you like playing supernatural parts?

Nina: I love the show and I love that it has all these supernatural abilities and the vampires and the witches and the effects and it’s really cool and it’s really fun to do and I do like it. Never Cry Werewolf was a film that I did years ago for the Sci-Fi network and it was a lot of fun too, it’s all about enjoying what you do at the time you’re doing it. I don’t want to just play that [fantasy characters] though.
