Jim Halterman chats with Executive Producer Kevin Williamson about The Vampire Diaries Season 2 – from fan expectations and knowing Candice Accola “just had it” to the Jeremy and Tyler friendship (ahem) and why Kev enjoys Katherine. (There’s even a mention of our favorite so-far-missing-yet-still-beloved book character: “I do envision a world in which Meredith [Sulez] does make her way onto the show.”)
JH: Now that you know the fans are so committed to your regular characters on the show, does it make it harder to think about killing one of them off the show and keeping those stakes alive, so to speak?
KW: It’s very difficult. We’re worried. I always worry and I want to make sure that I honor the fans and ultimately please them but at the same time we’re a vampire show and if there’s no life and death consequences it’s going to hurt the show. Unfortunately, people do die in our world and I hate to say it but I’ll try to give them a great storyline and a swan song but sometimes those sudden deaths are predictable and shocking. I just can’t keep everyone alive unfortunately.

The NY Post’s PopWrap catches up with Nina Dobrev, who calls tonight’s episode of Vampire Diaries “one of my favorite episodes so far.” She also explains why she feels Elena is “slowly losing her independence” and that her hatred for Damon is real (and justified!), why Katherine is not to be trifled with, and that we can expect flashbacks in different eras this season.
PW: What can you tease about tonight’s episode?
Nina: It seems like every time we go back to the 1864, we learn more from someone else’s perspective – and now it’s Katherine’s turn to tell the story. What she did, how she did it, why she did it and how it affected everything. It’s interesting to see how things can be misconstrued and twist your whole world. It’s going to change every character’s world once they find out. It’s also interesting to see Katherine toy with everyone. This episode is all about that. She’s working all the angles and blindsiding everyone. She’s got the upper hand.

Caroline Forbes has certainly had an eventful start to the season, and it seems Candice Accola is enjoying the twists and uncertainties. She talks with Zap2It about Caroline’s new path, how Caroline’s relationships with other characters could possibly develop and what viewers can expect as the season progresses, and finally getting that long-awaited dig in at Damon
Accola is loving Caroline’s new attitude — and she particularly enjoyed the scene where she finally told Damon off for manipulating her, abusing her, and feeding on her last year.
“Hell yeah!” she says. “That was epic. Finally she put him in his place. I’m always a fan of women who kick ass on screen so when I read the scripts and Caroline gets to be stronger now, it’s just been really really fun. I’ve been feeling very powerful.”

TV Fanatic has more from Candice, including her insight on Elena’s words to Bonnie at the end of Brave New World:
In episode two, a lot of viewers translated Elena’s “this isn’t us” quote to Bonnie as a way of holding on to someone who is still human. Would you consider Bonnie part of “us” or part of the supernatural?
My interpretation is that “us” meant that there is good and there is evil. There’s people who have morals and there are people that don’t. In Mystic Falls, whether you are supernatural or human, there are those with morals and those without. By “us,” she meant we don’t just kill because we want someone to be killed. We have justice, we have morals, we have perspective.

TV Guide has their own interview with Katerina Graham and this time she’s giving a preview of tomorrow night’s episode, Brave New World. She’s also candid about Bonnie’s relationships with other characters on The Vampire Diaries.
TVGuide.com: Will Bonnie and Elena ever be as close as they once were?
Graham: I don’t think the relationship with Bonnie and Elena will ever go back to the way it was. I think they can be friends and they can still be close, [but] it’s different. We all have those friends we have serious problems with, but you know they would die for you.

And Interview has a chat with Ian Somerhalder:
INTERVIEW: I can imagine you guys have some pretty intense fans. What is that like for you interacting with them?
SOMERHALDER: I got accosted by a six-foot-one Wonder Woman [at Comic Con]. I was sort of pushed against a wall, so that was pretty cool. The fans are awesome. I think our panel went from last year being 1,000 people to at least 5,000, which was really really cool.

LatinaMag‘s Lee Hernandez catches up with Michael Trevino to discuss werewolves, shirtlessness, and sex scenes.
Not everything is as it seems, and there are some big surprises down the road. It’s been a lot of fun so far, and I’ve been able to explore this character more this season. Tyler is going to be going through a lot this season and I hope that people are entertained by it. I think fans are going to enjoy the “sneaky” Lockwood family.

And Wall Street Journal chats with Ian Somerhalder:
Is there anything you can tell us about the new season without giving away any spoilers?
Katherine comes back and I’ve been eagerly awaiting Katherine despite the fact that it’s going to make Damon’s life harder. Katherine presents a plethora of problems because she’s a threat to everyone. She can kill anyone of us in the blink of an eye and that poses a very serious problem. I think that the Lockwood family is also going to pose pretty serious problems for the Salvatores. [With the ability to dive back into time], you get the assemblage of the events that lead up to right now. You get to see normal high school kids sort of battling these ultra supernatural issues. It’s going to be cool.

As if you’re not excited enough about tonight’s Vampire Diaries Season 2 premiere, Katerina Graham has a message for fans over at TV Fanatic:
People need to film themselves watching the Vampire Diaries first episode, and seeing their reactions. I would like nothing more than to see the fans YouTube their reactions and then talking about it. I’m dying to know what they think. Fans, Tweet me the link to your YouTube reaction!
Kat’s Twitter: @KatGraham. Do it!
The interview also touches on filming the final moments of Fool Me Once, whether Bonnie is as strong of a witch as her ancestor Emily Bennett, and how Bonnie will fare against Katherine and whatever agenda the vampire brings to town.
I think Bonnie is just standing in the way of everything to Katherine. Katherine is a bit heartless, so she doesn’t really care. Even though she was friends with Emily Bennett, I still don’t even trust that she wouldn’t screw Emily over to get what she wanted.

TV Squad caught up with Ian Somerhalder to talk Damon, Elena, Katherine, and whether Matt Davis is clinically insane. (Seriously.) Also, it looks as if we may see some nifty new vampire powers this season. Also, has Ian not made it clear enough that Damon may be thrown a bit off his game this season?
But Damon and Stefan will still be bickering, right?
The end all be all is he loves his brother, and his brother loves him. No matter how many times they’ve literally had the opportunity to kill one another, they’re still walking around. There are obviously major differences, but I think Damon and Stefan are gonna have to set those aside and actually focus on what’s the give and the take of letting that age-old vendetta go away. They actually have to focus and protect what they love, which is gonna be interesting, by virtue of the fact that Katherine is back.

Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie has posted the last video from her on-set chat with Ian Somerhalder and this time they talk about love, bodies, saltwater… It all has to do with Vampire Diaries, of course.
Heartbreak is an experience that we can all relate to, but most of us don’t have to suffer its consequences for 150 years. After finally allowing himself to open up to someone again, if Damon is rejected, things could get bloody. “He’s either going to shut down or explode,” Somerhalder says, grinning dangerously. “And I welcome either one.”

At TV Guide, Julie Plec teases the various facets and players of Season 2, including Caroline, the Lockwood werewolves, the Bennett witches, Jeremy, and of course Katherine:
At first blush, Katherine’s master plan has an anarchical glee. “Why not go back into town and mess with your ex-boyfriend, or in this case, two of them?” Dobrev says. Eventually though, both Plec and Dobrev say that her true mission will be revealed. It promises to be a season-long journey, as Dobrev indicates that Katherine is a woman of mystery. “She’s not going to give it all up and nor does she need to because she calls the shots,” she says. “Everyone is and should be very scared of her.”

Starry Constellation Magazine chats with Sara Canning about the challenges of playing Jenna,
From shooting the pilot in Vancouver, everyone just really clicked and we’ve truly gone through this entire experience together. From that new exciting feeling of shooting the pilot to all of us relocating down to Atlanta. Now that we’ve known each other for a year and a half, we’re like a married couple made up of ten people. It’s us and the crew. We just know each other inside and out.
