Book news! Feels like ages since we last posted any about the book series, and to make up for that we have a whole load of new book covers from various countries for you to peruse.
First up, the cover for Nightfall in Brazil has been revealed, and the publishers, Galera Record, will also be releasing a rather nifty Vampire Diaries boxset containing books 1 – 4. There isn’t a release date for either product yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear something. Update: Nightfall is due in October, and the boxset in November. Thanks, Isabella!

Thanks to the LJS Cover Resource (all hail Lorraine!), we’ve got some Vampire Diaries covers to share with you.
First up, the reprints of the original series in Denmark with some very striking covers. Going with a white/light theme really makes these stand out, and the artsy poses of Elena really add to the wow factor. And the subtle background of veins? Awesome. The Awakening also has an interesting title change, which translates to ‘Brothers of Darkness’ (thanks, Katrine!). Appropriate, no? Danish fans can look forward to buying these from Tellerup over the Summer. The Awakening and The Struggle will be published on May 10th, The Fury on June 10th, and Dark Reunion on July 16th.

The Russian cover for Dark Reunion (pictured left) has been released in its usual unrelated glory, though we haven’t got a date yet for when it will be published. Keep an eye on Ozon.ru. We also have the cover for the Italian version of Shadow Souls (pictured right), which should already be available to buy in bookstores.

Heat Magazine are really getting into the excitement of the Vampire Diaries and have up a little article selling the TV series to UK audiences, calling it “sexier than Twilight and less icky than True Blood, this is one vampy series you simply MUST watch”. They also have an exclusive video interview with Ian Somerhalder talking about the series, which you can view here. Sadly, there are no embed options, but we’ll be sure to add it if it crops up on YouTube. Thank you to Amy for sending us the links.
Update: Thanks to @TwilighterVN for the YouTube video link.
Kristin over at E! Online has a nice Stefan and Damon teaser for “Children of the Damned”. Highlight/mouseover to see the spoiler:
This week’s The Vampire Diaries reveals one of the biggest secrets of all: What actually happened to make Damon and Stefan hate each other? “We get to see the incident that drove them apart for the first time,” says show runner Julie Plec. Ooh, “the incident”? sounds a little Lostish! Also, we’ll see Dexter’s James Remar for the first time as Papa Salvatore. Let’s just hope he lives by a very different code than Harry Morgan!
And a little more specific:
The incident that tore Damon and Stefan apart involves their mutual love of a certain Elena look-alike vampire. Turns out, Stefan might inadvertently be the reason Katherine was locked up in the tomb, hence Damon’s desire to free her, and his unexplained hatred of his little bro.
Many thanks to Tiaria for letting us know about book publications in Russia again. As far as we can tell (with the dubious help of Google Translate), “The Fury” is out now, and Russian fans can order it over on ozon.ru. For everyone else, we have the cover to the right (click it for the larger version in our gallery). Oh, Russia, we love your wacky and unrelated covers. So much. :D
Marijó has emailed to let us know that the Warner Channel in Argentina will be running a Vampire Diaries marathon on Saturday, February 6 and Saturday, February 13 from 4pm. Update: Looks like it’s all over Latin America – thanks, Angie.
The Televixen’s Vampire Diaries podcast (featuring Melissa (The Televixen), Connie from Blast Magazine, Lucia from HeroineTV, and our very own Vee) is up: Let’s Kill All the Awesome Chicks. If you missed the first podcast, you can head over and listen to Operation Suspenders.
Finally, the TwiCon Celebrity Craft Basket we mentioned a few weeks back is open for sign-ups. If you want to contribute to a gift basket for various cast members from the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight, then mosey on over to Twilight Crafts to find out more and sign up.

The Russian covers for L.J. Smith books have earned an affectionate reputation in the fandom for often having nothing at all to do with the actual stories. So we’re actually pretty impressed at this offering for Russia’s first omnibus edition of The Awakening and The Struggle, featuring an artistic rendition of one of the images from the Love Sucks promos of the TV series. Not so sure about the Twilight font, but we’ll live. ;) Russian fans (and covers collectors) can get their paws on it here, though we’re sorry to say there still doesn’t seem to be any sign of The Fury, Dark Reunion or Nightfall having been translated yet. Thanks to Tiaria for sending us the information!
On the subject of the Vampire Diaries books, we have some new dates for you to put into your diaries for the Return Trilogy. Amazon.ca has Midnight listed with a release date of December 8, 2010 (anyone else find it appropriate that the final part of a trilogy about Damon is set for release on Ian Somerhalder’s birthday?). The site also lists Shadow Souls as having a publication date of January 27, 2010. However, the Harper website still has that listed as 16 March, 2010, so we advise caution before getting your hopes up over an earlier release date. Thanks to Marie for the heads up.

First up, we’ve transcribed the 5 minute extended Vampire Diaries trailer, and then added English subtitles to it. For anyone wondering why, it’s because there are deaf and hard of hearing fans out there (along with a couple of people with bust sound cards on their computers) who are interested in knowing what’s going on in the trailers, and want to get an idea of what all the buzz is about the Vampire Diaries TV series. I make no claims to perfection, but the speech is all there.
If anyone would like the .srt file for the purpose of translating it into other languages, please contact us and we’ll get you sorted.
Moving away from the English language, as promised we’ve rooted around and found as many translated trailers as we can. These are all English videos with subtitles in various languages. No one has attempted dubbing them yet, as far as we’re aware.
- French trailer 1
French trailer 2
French trailer 3
French trailer – extended (new) - Portuguese trailer 1
Portuguese trailer 2
Portuguese trailer – extended (VampireDiariesBR.com subs)
Portuguese trailer – extended (DarkSide subs) - Italian trailer
- Russian trailer
Russian trailer – extended (new) - Spanish trailer 1
Spanish trailer 2 (new)
Spanish trailer – extended (new) - Vietnamese trailer – extended (new)
Many thanks to all the people who worked hard to translate and upload those videos. I have a newfound respect for you all after just transcribing and subbing with my native English.
If you know of any languages or trailers not yet listed here, please let us know. We’ll keep adding to this list as we come across more.
