Some of you were a little disappointed with the earlier spoilers for season two that we posted. Hopefully this little teaser from executive producer Julie Plec via Keck’s Exclusives will get you all wondering about what’s coming up on the Vampire Diaries:
“Our big new addition is Mason Lockwood, the mayor’s much younger and cooler brother, who has been estranged from the family,” says executive producer Julie Plec. “His return introduces a lot of questions about what is so special about that creepy Lockwood family.”
We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything about casting. In the meantime, speculate in the comments with who you think he is, why he’s been estranged, and what he plans to do in Mystic Falls…
Ian Somerhalder is looking to salvage something positive from the Gulf oil spill crisis, and hopes that it will be the wake up call that the world needs to make it a priority to search for greener energy sources. Speaking with Zap2It’s Carina MacKenzie, Ian revealed that the Vampire Diaries set will be doing its bit to green up within the entertainment industry:
“It takes a lot of power to run a movie set. We go through a lot of fuel,” Somerhalder says. “It’s harmful, and we can start changing that a little bit. We can get rid of these noisy, stinky, disgusting gas generators. There’s going to be a lot of thought that goes into this revolution that’s going to happen.”
“We’re dealing with California Transportation Department, we’re dealing with the Department of Defense, we’re dealing with disaster relief — but we’re also dealing with the entertainment industry. We’ll be taking major productions green, like big concerts and music festivals. Greening the ‘Vampire Diaries’ set is a priority for me, which we’re going to be doing this year.”
Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder continued lounging on the beaches of Monaco today, and by lounging on beaches we of course mean posing for more photographs! The trio attended a photocall at the Monte Carlo Television Festival and you can check out some of the photos below and see the rest over at DayLife.
Thanks Vampire Diaries France for letting us know that CineTVBuzz has a brief video via Monte Carlo of Paul, Nina, and Ian talking TVD season 2 – and, as Paul admits, it’s all pure speculation on their part, since they know as much as the fans do about what’s coming next. Check out the video below:
And, finally, thanks to @CW_VampDiaries for pointing out and translating this SeriesLive.com interview with Paul.
“The first season is a wrap now and the series has earned the respect of both the industry and the fans, and this is what matters the most. This is a good pressure, a more creative one.”
The anticipation has been building all month and the moment has finally arrived: Tune in to The VRO at 9pm ET tonight as Vampire Diaries executive producer/writer Julie Plec fields your questions. As she tweeted earlier, “I’m happy to defend it, explain it, or revel in it w u, depending on topic. Or we can just talk about Paul’s abs.” Word on the street is that tonight’s show is going to be extra-special so, whatever you have to do, make sure you’re there. We have a feeling it’s going to be lots of fun.
If you missed this week’s interviews, you can listen to them in full over at Blog Talk Radio: Paul M. Sommers and Marguerite MacIntyre. And tune in for Malese Jow on Friday night and Susan Walters on June 1st.
And tonight at 8/7c, the Vampire Diaries Season One encore officially begins on the CW. The Moonlight pairing kicks off next week, June 3rd.
And, if you follow Kev and Julie on Twitter, you know the writers returned to work this week to begin Season Two. Yes, as you read this, they’re plotting how to drive you all insane. Exciting, isn’t it?
Lots going on behind the scenes here at V-D.net (good stuff!) so bear with us as we work back into a groove. It’s becoming a very interesting summer indeed.
FearNet has posted a conversation with Nina Dobrev and she touches on season one’s final episodes, her working relationship with Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, playing Elena and Katherine, what distinguishes The Vampire Diaries within the genre, Elena’s journey as a character (so far), and her hopes for the second season.
Is there any particular direction in which you’d like to see Elena go in the second season?
Yeah, I definitely want to see how her relationship between the two boys progresses; and if at some point enough will be enough, and if she will decide that being around these two individuals is really worth all the pain and heartache and all the difficulties that they really put on her life. She had problems before they showed up. But it’s definitely complicated things a lot, their presence. So I’d like to see whether or not she will call it quits or keep going and fighting for what she loves.
While we had no doubt at all that a second season was a sure thing, it is beyond awesome to have confirmation that the CW has officially renewed the Vampire Diaries for a second season.
Many congratulations to everyone involved with the show, and thank you so much for your dedication and hard work on this series. Season one isn’t even over yet, and we’re already looking forward to season two. :D
Also, thank you to everyone who emailed and tweeted us the good news. ;)
