Previously on The Vampire Diaries: The Birthday (EP301 - Season Premiere)Previously on The Vampire Diaries: Our show came back, and there was much rejoicing and hand-wringing. As we mentioned last Friday morning, TVD hit our screens with total confidence, picking up with our characters and making the two-month time jump between the Season 2 finale and the Season 3 premiere feel completely natural. Nearly every character and their current crises were present and accounted for while we were introduced to the new, horrible reality of Season 2′s last-minute cliffhangers. Are you ready for The Hybrid (EP302) tomorrow night at 8/7c?

CHECK OUT THE BITE-SIZED RECAP OF THE BIRTHDAY AT CW’s VAMPIRE DIARIES LAIR.

We’ve changed up the format of the post this week in a last-ditch effort to save my sanity. Let us know if you like/hate it! (The post and/or my pending sanity. Whichever.)

Club, BuddyTV, Daemon’s TV, MTV Hollywood Crush, Television Without Pity, iphignia939, TV Surveillance, Heroine TV, Thomas Galvin, AOL TV, Zap2It, IGN, The TV Watchtower, TV Line, Hollywood Life, The Salvatore Boarding House, The TV Chick, and our own Crissy Calhoun.

Vampire Diaries: The Birthday (Season Premiere) Recap - Don't Let GoAnd we’re back! Our favorite show has returned with a killer episode (pun intended, sweet peas) that jumps ahead two months from the finale to a Mystic Falls that’s trying its darnedest to be a normal, boring human town. But moving on from the past proves to be impossible — and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

SPOILER WARNING! CONTINUE READING “DON’T LET GO.”

Reaction Post & Poll: Vampire Diaries - The Birthday (EP301 - Season Premiere)THIS POST IS A STICKY. KEEP SCROLLING FOR NEW POSTS.

SHORT PROMO FOR THE HYBRID (EP302)
EXTENDED PROMO FOR THE HYBRID (EP302)
COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR THE BIRTHDAY (EP301)

Somehow, some way, we have survived an interminable, excruciating summer hiatus to arrive at this: The Vampire Diaries Season 3 premiere, The Birthday (EP301). Whose birthday, you ask? That would be Elena Gilbert’s 18th birthday, complete with friends, (what’s left of her) family, and a party in her honor at the Salvatore mansion. And it seems that while Damon’s attempting to hold down the fort in Mystic Falls, Stefan and Klaus are ripping their way through the South delivering their own brand of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Also, don’t forget that directly after The Birthday you can watch The Secret Circle, the new Thursday night companion for The Vampire Diaries from Kevin Williamson, based on another L.J. Smith series.

Watch and then swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Spoilers are welcome in the comments, though if you want some more in-depth discussion then head on over to the forums! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.)

Quick guide to the poll options: A party in the Salvatore boarding house with a gorgeous group of friends and Alaric as the only responsible adult? Someone has to be jumping out of a birthday cake shirtless, right? 5 birthday cakes = LOVE. 1 birthday cake = MEH.

What did you think of The Birthday (EP301)?

So this is random – US Magazine seems to have yet another webclip from The Birthday, the Vampire Diaries Season 3 premiere. This scene is between Damon and quite a different Stefan than what we are used to. We don’t know about you, but we can’t WAIT until tomorrow night – TVD IS BACK!

E!Online Behind the Scenes Peek at The Birthday (EP301) + AOL TV Chats with Ian SomerhalderE!Online has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at filming of The Birthday (EP301) and some spoilery tidbits from Candice Accola, Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Kevin Williamson.

“Actually Elena’s birthday goes really well. Everyone gets along. There’s no drama. No! Of course not,” Accola tells us. “It’s the season premiere! Of course every thing goes crazy.”

And AOL TV‘s Maggie Furlong talks with Ian Somerhalder about Damon’s new, uncomfortable position in Season 3. Ian touches on Damon’s frame of mind:

So he’s not thrilled to finally have a shot with Elena?
No. I don’t think he ever saw being stuck in Mystic Falls, taking care of this young, beautiful creature he’s totally in love with … he is totally in love with this girl, but he can’t have her. A) She doesn’t want him, and B) it’s his brother’s girl. Even Damon’s not gonna stoop that low. So he’s thinking, alright, so she’s 18, right? She’s gonna live another 70 or 75 years, with modern medicine, so he’s thinking, “Sh*t man, I’m stuck in Mystic Falls for another three-quarters of a century, taking care of this girl that I can’t have.” That is not something that I think sits very well with him. He wants to take care of her, he wants her to be happy, he wants her to live a full, amazing life — but she wants Stefan back.
