The Vampire Diaries at Comic-Con International 2012: Panels! Signings! Followings! Cults! Happy Friday the 13th! Comic-Con International has kicked into high gear in San Diego so here’s a one-stop post for what The Vampire Diaries is up to this year. Once again, Saturday (July 14th) is TVD Day in Ballroom 20. And in extra-special fun times news, turns out that Mr. Kevin Williamson himself will be moderating the TVD panel. (Are we allowed to say “thank goodness?” because thank goodness.) Oh, and The Hollywood Reporter had the exclusive first look at the special TVD Comic-Con poster (pictured).

But first: Friday (today!) Matt Davis is repping his new CW show Cult with a panel and pilot screening at 11:30am in Room 6BCF and a Warner Bros. booth signing from 1:15-2pm. (Warner Bros. is observing the Con’s ticket lottery system again this year, MORE DETAILS HERE.) Support your TVD alum!

Now for the main info…

SATURDAY, JULY 14TH
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES BOOTH SIGNING
1:00–1:45 PM
Warner Bros. Booth #4545

Participants: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec

New This Year: Ticket Drawings and Wristband Distributions to Begin in the Morning on the Day of Signings in the Sails Pavilion, Utilizing One Line for All Ticket Drawings for All Signings

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES PANEL
3:30–4:15 PM
Ballroom 20

Participants: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec
MODERATED by Kevin Williamson.

And because Kevin Williamson obviously has a lot of free time on his hands, he will also be promoting his new FOX show The Following (watch the creepy trailer!) later on Saturday. Another TVD alum, Marcos Siega, directed the pilot and will join Mr. Williamson, along with stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, for some panel and booth signing fun. They will be signing at the WB booth 12:00–12:45pm and the panel is at 4pm in Room 6BCF. Show Kevin and Marcos some TVD fan love.

If you’re in San Diego this weekend, HAVE FUN. Sadly, we were not able to make it down there this year, but we’ll be lurking on Twitter, RTing the good stuff, and throwing it all together on the blog this weekend.

Comic Con 2011: Details on the Vampire Diaries WB booth signingWarner Bros. has made big changes this year in how they will handle booth signings. For safety reasons, WB has agreed to adopt Comic Con’s official ticket distribution system. What does this mean? It means fans wanting to attend a signing event at the Warner Bros. booth will need to enter a random ticket drawing for the chance at scoring a wristband. Only that wristband will grant you access to the signing.

From the official WB press release:

Fans interested in attending signings at the Warner Bros. booth should review the schedule listed below, then plan to visit the Sails Pavilion at the time of each drawing. All fans present at the appointed time will receive numbered tickets that feature a distinct sticker. Then a randomized drawing will determine which fans receive wristbands granting access to each autograph line.

Info on the Vampire Diaries ticket drawing and signing are below:
Saturday, July 23
The Vampire Diaries
Ticket Distribution (Sails Pavilion #9): 11:00 a.m.
Autograph Signing (Warner Bros. Booth, #4545): 1:00 p.m.

Now, I know a lot of fans are upset by this news. Everyone wants a chance at coming face to face with the cast, getting a poster signed, etc. (And you will still have that chance with the ticket lottery.) But having been to Comic Con more than a few times now and experiencing first-hand the mob that gathers around the Warner Bros. booth – this is a good thing. Comic Con gets bigger every year, but the convention center and Exhibitor’s Hall remain the same. I guarantee once you see the Exhibitor’s Hall set-up and experience it packed to the gills with wall to wall people, you’ll understand why this was a necessary move for the WB, not only for safety reasons but for organization/schedule reasons as well. There seems to be a lot of concern about whether fans will be able to make the panel if they manage to snag a signing wristband. I’d say your chances of attending both are considerably improved with the new ticket system, as the signing will mostly likely be more organized and move quicker than years past.

That being said, good luck to everyone trying to snag a signing wristband! And, most importantly, have a blast at the Con.
