The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe CW’s behind-the-scenes maven @LilMissX posted a Vampire Diaries set photo of Paul and Ian (and Marcos Siega) this afternoon. Check the photo out here. As one of our Twitter followers put it: “Paul and Ian are really starting to look like brothers to me. It’s kind of awesome.”

The Paley Center for Media will be holding the PaleyFest: Fall TV Preview Party for the CW on Monday, September 14th, starting at 6 p.m., in Los Angeles. This event is open to the public and features a reception, preview panels with the network’s stars, followed by screenings of all CW pilots (The Vampire Diaries, along with Melrose Place and The Beautiful Life). Admission to the event is FREE but you’ll need to make reservations on the Paley Center website (seating is first come, first served). We don’t know who from the cast will be there at this point, but we’ll keep an eye out. There will be a similar set of screenings in New York City on September 14th, but only the pilot screenings themselves are open to the public. Receptions are Members-Only.

Vampire Diaries Comic Con BagThe entries are all in (thank you to everyone who entered! You certainly kept us entertained with your captions), and we’ve spent the weekend deliberating over them all. We’ve managed to narrow down the entries to ten, and it’s now up to you guys to vote for the winners of the Vampire Diaries Comic Con goodies. Voting will remain open until Sunday, August 23rd 11:59pm Western US time, and then we’ll announce the winners on Monday, August 24th.

So, without further ado, take a look at the following picture and then choose your favourite caption from the list below. Good luck, everyone!

Elena, Stefan, and Matt at the Mystic Grill

Elena: “Stefan meet Matt. Matt, Stefan.”
Stefan: “Hey.”
Matt: “Be careful, man. She bites.” (35%, 209 Votes)

Matt: “I’m Matt.”
Elena: “He acts like one too. He’s always walked on.” (7%, 44 Votes)

“It wasn’t until Stefan met Matt that Elena began to realize there was one person she REALLY should have included in her blood-pact.” (3%, 16 Votes)

"So, Stefan, do you, like, sparkle too, or do you, like, need glitter glue for that?” (23%, 135 Votes)

“When Elena introduced him to Matt, a horrid feeling of deja food came over Stefan.” (2%, 12 Votes)

“Stefan and Matt shake hands in agreement as Stefan stares into Matt’s eyes and convinces him to pay the dinner check for he and Elena at the Mystic Grill.” (2%, 10 Votes)

“Crap. My past love resemblance doesn’t stand a chance in bringing Stefan’s focus back to me, even if were to throw in the dead parents and a gaping wound. Maybe if I was a single mother/part time model, all while balancing the academic and social demands of high school?” (2%, 9 Votes)

“Hi. I’m Matt. We have chemistry together. Um. The class, I mean. You know, like science? With… chemicals?” (16%, 97 Votes)

Elena: It’s like…I’m here but I’m not really here. (3%, 19 Votes)

“Hey Matt, I’m Stefan, and might I say that your handshake lacks… passion.” (7%, 48 Votes)

Total Voters: 599

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIn case some of you aren’t following Vampire Diaries supervising producer/director Marcos Siega on Twitter, he was kind enough to post a photo of Paul and Nina during a “beautiful scene” on Friday night. Moonlight, a fountain…certainly looks romantic from where we sit.

Speaking of Twitter, Julie Plec is just a little bit evil – and we love it.

In case you missed our update to the previous post: My sound card was down when the “Squeamish” promo hit, otherwise I would have been sure to tell you sooner that the track used is “Hang You from the Heavens” by The Dead Weather. (Yes, it has me very excited – it’s shaping up to be my album of the year. And yes, I keep track of these things.) Jack White’s ending up with quite the TVD connection, what with the Raconteurs’ “Consoler of the Lonely” used in the pilot n’ all.

Thanks to Vampire Diaries BG for the heads up on a new photo of Nina from the Love Sucks photo session.

Love Sucks: Elena

And if you haven’t checked out the official Vampire Diaries site over at CW.com lately, go take a look! They’ve updated with shots from the Greystone Mansion shoot, cast bios (not for everyone yet), videos, and more. Participate in the Vampire Diaries forum, fan the official TVDtv Facebook page, and generally make merry.

Paul Wesley as Stefan SalvatoreIESB has a thorough compilation of Paul Wesley quotes from the Television Critics Association press tour last week. Most of this you’ve already seen elsewhere, but there are some new nuggets buried in there.

Michael Trevino posted a few pics from the set on Tuesday afternoon, including what we shall call “Portrait with Shoulder Pads” – a candid of himself with Zach Roerig and Paul Wesley, all decked in football practice gear. They look hot. No, really – we hope there was an arsenal of bottled water and spray misters. (And yes, they’re the Mystic Falls Timberwolves. We know Kevin Williamson confirmed the mascot would be Wildcats – as some of you reminded us on Twitter – but circumstances are circumstances, and hey, we think Timberwolves is rather clever. You never know, maybe they’ll appear as a rival team at some point.)

Marcos Siega tweeted that prep work for episode 4 is underway, while episode 103 began filming yesterday at the Lockwood Mansion. KW promises “blood and hormones run amuck.” That sounds fun.

Hollywood Crush has an article and video interview (only viewable in the USA) with Kevin Williamson in which he reassures readers that Vampire Diaries “isn’t Twilight at all”, and more of a “modern-day sexy Dark Shadows“. Seems like a good thing to us.

A short ‘TV to Talk About’ promo clip has turned up on YouTube with Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Katerina Graham all making an appearance.

Vampire Diaries BG passed along a photo of Vampire Diaries elevator door advertising in Los Angeles that appeared in a Bulgarian newspaper. We also hear TVD has a definite presence in NYC’s Times Square right now (if you have pics, we’d love to see them!), as well as throughout the city.

Finally, our caption contest ends tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. Western U.S. time. There are Vampire Diaries bags, posters and buttons up for grabs (pictured below), so head on over to the contest post, take a look at the pic and wow us with your witty one-liners before the entry deadline.

Damon, Stefan and ElenaFirst of all, today (well, technically tomorrow, but whatever) marks the one month countdown to the Vampire Diaries premiere, which airs on September 10th on the CW. We’ve added a little countdown to the sidebar on the right for a bit of fun.

People.com has posted “Five Things to Know About TV’s Hottest New Vampire“, a short-but-sweet article about Paul Wesley in which acting, pointy teeth, and the show are talked about. We have to give a shout out to his little sisters for reading the books – we hope they liked them! Also, we can guarantee that his family aren’t his only fans.

Korbi Ghosh from Zap2it caught up with Ian Somerhalder for a brief chat. That link could be considered spoilery if you have any idea about the cast and characters (or have seen the pilot), but from a non-spoilery perspective it’s starting to look like Damon may well be set to steadily work his way through the population of Mystic Falls, leaving quite a few disheveled ladies in his wake.

There’s an audio snippet of Kevin Williamson at the TCA panel over on Hollywood Outbreak. It’s a section we’ve posted about in text format before, in which KW explains that the Vampire Diaries isn’t just a teen show but more of a small town show that will develop the mythology in the books.

In set news, it looks like the body count starts here. Michael Trevino teased followers on Twitter with a picture of the Mystic Falls coroner’s van. Given the potential death toll (dare we say it could give Sunnydale a run for its money?), we have to wonder if they’ll be needing to purchase another van for the Mystic Falls coroner’s office before the season ends?

GMMR and Ducky talk about the Vampire Diaries in their TV Talk podcast, briefly discussing the fact that they enjoyed the pilot (the term ‘guilty pleasure’ crops up) and the ‘swoonworthy’ nature of Paul Wesley. They’re planning on discussing it in more depth in their Fall TV podcast. The Vampire Diaries discussion starts at the 32:30 mark for those who want to skip ahead to it.

The Television Without Pity Tubey Awards are underway, and the Vampire Diaries TV series is up for ‘Most Anticipated New Show of the 2009-10 Season’. Go and cast your votes in the polls. You can find the TVD poll under the ’9-10′ tab.

Sally from Australia sent us an email to say that Freeview channel GO! – who will be airing the Vampire Diaries in Australia later this year (though still no specific dates) – has now launched, and they’re airing adverts for the series on a pretty regular basis.

Vampire Diaries fans Rachel and Andrea have been busy channeling their love for the series creatively by making some awesome t-shirts. Do we have any other fans out there with a similar crafty flair?

Caption Competition Update:

We’d just like to remind you all that you have until Friday to enter our caption competition to win some Vampire Diaries Comic Con goodies. Judging from some of the entries, we get the impression we may not have been clear enough with what the caption competition is, so we’ve updated the post to explain the concept some more and to provide an example of a caption for you.

Because some people might not have understood what we were asking for in this contest we’ve decided that participants are welcome to change their caption to something else if they’ve already submitted one to us. No worries if you’re happy with what you submitted, but we feel it’s only fair to give people the option.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesVia SciFiWire, some new quotes from Paul Wesley during the TCA’s Vampire Diaries session in Pasadena last week. He talks about the show’s stunt work, the lack of intensive make-up, those (highly anticipated) 19th century flashbacks, and provides even more insight into the conflicted nature of Stefan Salvatore.

But just because he’s got a crush on Elena doesn’t mean he’s necessarily a sweetheart. “No, absolutely not,” Wesley declared. ‘No way. He’s a vampire. He is constantly struggling with the dark side. He’s constantly eager, and he has a need to feed on human blood. It’s constantly there. It’s not easy for him not to do it. I’m making Stefan have anger, a temper, but passion and love and tenderness toward Elena. But he’s vicious and violent. He loves her, and he’ll die for her, but he’s a violent creature.”

Huge thanks to Keiran over at Vampire Diaries Spain for giving us the heads-up on these pictures that appeared on the official Vampire Diaries Facebook. These are from the photo shoot used in the ‘Love Sucks’ promotional campaign for the Vampire Diaries TV series. They’re all pretty sexy images, though we find the head shots to be particularly striking. It also hasn’t escaped our notice that the close-ups make a nice complement to the half-face theme being used in various recent editions of the Vampire Diaries books. Whether or not that was intentional, we don’t know. But it’s still pretty cool.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesTHIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE DON’T EMAIL US ENTRIES.

We’ve found ourselves on the receiving end of some amazing fandom love and generosity and we think it’s only right to pass on the good karma. We know a lot of you were unable to make it to San Diego for Comic Con and have been envying some of the Vampire Diaries goodies featured at the Warner Bros. booth. Well, here’s your chance to score some of that sweet schwag – we’re having our very first contest! (Damon is smirking because we’re going to ask you to flex your witty one-liner muscles for this one.)

The Prizes:

  • TWO big winners will each receive a Vampire Diaries Comic Con bag
  • THREE runners-up will each receive a Vampire Diaries poster and button

Here are some (not-so-great) snapshots of the limited edition bags, the button (bit blurry, but you get the idea of the size), and the poster.

The Contest:
Write a caption for this photo of Elena, Stefan, and Matt (click to enlarge).

Elena, Stefan, and Matt at the Mystic Grill

What is a Caption Competition?
The point of a caption competition is to come up with a snappy (usually funny, sometimes profound) caption based on what springs to mind when looking at a given picture, often based on something that sticks out to the viewer. They’re usually no longer than a couple of sentences, though can be presented in the form of a short conversation between any people who may be in the picture.

Example Caption:
“Matt and Stefan only started to appreciate the depths of Tyler’s evil when they realised that he’d super-glued their hands together.”

The Rules:

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE DON’T EMAIL US ENTRIES.

  • One entry per person. One caption per entry. You get one shot!
  • Keep it clean, please.
  • If you use their names in your caption, spell Stefan and Elena correctly – if you don’t, you’re automatically disqualified. NO exceptions.
  • Email your caption entry to contest [at] vampire-diaries [dot] net. Please include the name you would like to be identified by on the website.
  • Deadline: Entries must be received by Friday, August 14th at 11:59 p.m. Western U.S. time. (To find out what time that is in your area, check The World Clock.)

This contest is open internationally. We don’t care if you’re in Poland, Bulgaria, Brazil, Thailand, Israel, etc. – if you live on planet Earth and you win, we will mail the goods to you.

After the deadline:

  • We will narrow the entries down to our 10-15 favorite submissions.
  • We will then post that top 10-15 in a poll on the website (who submitted what will remain anonymous).
  • The readers of Vampire-Diaries.net will vote for their favorite caption.
  • The five entries with the highest number of votes at the end of the voting period will be our winners. The two entries with the most votes will win the Vampire Diaries Comic Con bag, and the three runners-up will win the Vampire Diaries poster/button.
  • Winners will be notified and celebrated on the website!

Contest starts now – have fun! We look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Again, deadline for entries is Friday, August 14th at 11:59 p.m. Western U.S. time. And please spread the word!

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE DON’T EMAIL US ENTRIES.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesPaul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, and Katerina Graham, along with executive producers Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, and Bob Levy, answered questions from TV reporters and bloggers during the CW’s Vampire Diaries panel today at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. (No, Ian was not there, nor Steven R. McQueen – it’s a feat that any of the cast was there considering they’re in mad filming mode right now.)

We sort of live-re-tweeted during the panel this morning (while multi-tasking!), but below is a list of links to various articles, blogs, live blogs, and odd bits of consequence, and then under the spoiler-cut will be quotes and tidbits of particular interest to fans. Put your spec helmets on.

Stefan and DamonZap2it has posted up some brand new Vampire Diaries promo pics of the cast from the Greystone Mansion shoot by photographer Andrew Eccles. There are eight photos in total (so far) of Paul Wesley (Stefan), Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Nina Dobrev (Elena), Katerina Graham (Bonnie), Candice Accola (Caroline) and Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy). It would be nice to see these in higher quality, so hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on some of those soon. Now the burning question is: where are Matt, Tyler and Vicki?

Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder Paul Wesley Paul Wesley Ian Somerhalder
Nina Dobrev Katerina Graham Candice Accola Steven R. McQueen

In production news, Marcos Siega twittered earlier that episode 103 will be directed by Guy Ferland, known for work on The Shield, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Eleventh Hour. Good to see another choice of director whose work certainly isn’t your average teenage fare.

Finally, a billboard advert for the Vampire Diaries has been spotted in LA. Fingers crossed it doesn’t cause too many accidents or the CW could be neck-deep in personal injury claims. ;) Thanks to Michael Trevino and the folks over at MediaBlvd for directing us to this.
