KryptonSite have a whole bunch of stills from “Haunted”, the Halloween episode of the Vampire Diaries, and the holiday season is looking pretty funky over in Mystic Falls (seriously, I’m hallucinating just looking at these stills). UPDATE: Larger versions now available in our gallery in all their psychedelic glory. ;)
Katerina Graham was interviewed recently by Starry Constellation Magazine. She talks about her background research for Bonnie, working with the rest of the cast, her fans and supporters, and a host of other things.
Q. Bonnie is a direct descendant from one of the accused Salem witches, did you do any research into that background?
A. Yeah, I studied a lot about the Salem Witch Trial and I watched The Crucible. I studied as much as I possibly could and I have been reading all of The Vampire Diaries books to see what her reaction is to a lot of these things. I kind of want to go to Salem to do some more studying and research but for now I am doing as much as I can. There is so much work you can do for the background of a character like that, so you definitely want to do as much as you possibly can.
There are two new clips from this week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries for you to enjoy. That’s a total of three for “Lost Girls”, (catch up on the first one and the promo trailer here) though they’re keeping those flashbacks to themselves for now. ;)
First clip is of Stefan telling Elena about the facts and myths of vampires.
Second clip is between Damon and Stefan, with them bickering delightfully over the phone.
Thanks to Reemy for pointing us at this CW Connect interview with Paul Wesley. Paul addresses the question of why Stefan came back to Mystic Falls for Elena, his personal back-story for Stefan, Stefan’s powers, his thoughts on the vampire make-up and the CGI facial transformation process, Stefan’s serious expression and his emotional progression through the episodes.
Paul Wesley talks Twilight, teenage years, and TV (and lack thereof – le gasp!) in the November issue of Teen Vogue and Bella’s Diary has scans of the two-page spread, including a brief interview (which you can read on their site) and the below portrait.

The CW has released the official synopsis for episode seven, “Haunted”, which will be airing on the 29th October. As usual, the synopsis is over on the index page so we don’t spoiler those who want to be surprised. We will say that it looks like it’s going to be a cracker of an episode, and waiting an extra week to see it with only a repeat for comfort? Torture! The episode was written by Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Andrew Kreisberg, and directed by Ernest Dickerson.
In ratings news, the Vampire Diaries is continuing to rock with 3.52 million viewers in the USA. You can read the CW press release about it over at TV by the Numbers:
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES soared to 108% year-to-year growth in The CW’s target demographic, women 18-34, with a 2.7/8, good for a first place tie in the time period against stellar competition. VAMPIRE also wooed more female teens than any other show on television last night with a 3.0/12, an absolutely batty 173% increase from the time period a year ago. The show also ranked first in its time period with total teens (2.1/8). Additionally TVD grew 27% year-to-year in adults 18-34 with a 1.9/6 and 69% in women 18-49 with a 2.2/6. The show also equaled its total viewer number from a week ago of 3.5M. VAMPIRE was also up 6% week-to-week in adults 18-34 and flat week-to-week in women 18-34.
There’s some behind the scenes footage from “You’re Undead to Me” in which they explain how they went about showing us Bonnie setting fire to the car at the fundraiser. Interesting stuff.
And finally, everyone who voted in the People’s Choice Hollywood Style Awards for Elena and Stefan as ‘hottest Fall couple’ will be pleased to know that they won. ;) Thanks for the info, Johanna!
Kayla Ewell will be a guest on That Morning Show tomorrow morning, October 8th. She’ll be talking Vicki and Vampire Diaries, and you can catch the interview between 6-9 a.m. on E! Entertainment Network.
Candice Accola talks Caroline and Damon in PopSugar’s “6 Reasons You Can’t Live Without Vampires” video. Vampire Diaries talk starts at the 2:00 minute mark.
We tweeted this last night, but in case you missed it, via TV Guide’s MegaBuzz: a fan’s Vampire Diaries theory and Julie Plec’s sly spin on the issue.
UPDATE: And via Ask Ausiello: Find out why you shouldn’t miss this week’s episode OR next week’s.
Vampire Diaries Web is about to make a whole lot of you very, very happy: flashback stills from episode six, “Lost Girls.” I’d write more but I am making total flail-y hands over Stefan’s hair and Damon in uniform (called it, Red!) and KATHERINE. I expect to be nigh-on useless for the rest of the evening. There’s a few taster photos below, and see the full set over at VDW. (I expect we’ll have some higher quality versions soon.)
UPDATE: Higher quality images added to the “Lost Girls” album in our gallery.
Many moons ago (okay, it was back in May, but it seems like such a long time ago) we posted an article – Vampire Lore 101 – all about the traits and characteristics of the vampires in L.J. Smith’s book version of the Vampire Diaries. Now that we’re getting into the swing of the TV series with four episodes already aired, we thought it was about time to write an article about what we know (so far) about the vampires in the TV universe. This is all based on what we’ve seen while watching the episodes, so we may have missed some details and some information may be a little vague until episodes down the line can elaborate more. But there’s a surprising amount of information gleaned from what we’ve seen so far. Be warned, there will be spoilers for the first four episodes.
E! News visited the set of The Vampire Diaries last week during filming of the Halloween episode (Haunted – we’ve already had glimpses of Jeremy’s and Elena’s, and Matt’s costumes via Nina’s Twitter), and the segment features some soundbites from Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.
VAMPIRE DIARIES continued to cast a spell on viewers in a number of key ratings measurements, with flat week to week performances in adults 18-34 (1.8/6) and women 18-49 (2.3/3). TVD also mesmerized female teens with a 2.5/10, winning a first place finish in the influential demo. Additionally, TVD was seen by 3.52M total viewers.
MTV has more of their conversation with Paul Wesley and he has some very interesting things to say about Stefan’s future:
“His layers are starting to sort of show,” he said. “When the story first began, he was sort of this mystery figure. And he always has that ambiguity about him, and as we get to know him and he starts having human problems, he becomes more of a person. For me, what’s interesting is that he’s going to get more intense and get more assertive with Damon and start just humanizing more. And that includes laughter and deep sadness. They’re really starting to make him more complex.”
And Nina chatted with the New York Post’s PopWrap about what viewers can expect on upcoming episodes of The Vampire Diaries, including some great spec about Elena’s parents:
PW: I think there’s more to Elena’s parents death than we know — thoughts?
Nina: [laughs] Yes … I do think that too. I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but we’re going to explore that storyline and that history. I feel like being on a show like this, you have an amazing secret that you so badly want to tell but can’t. All I’ll say is that in episode six, you’re going to be totally surprised by what happens.
