Vampire Diaries Season 3 summary, Joseph Morgan now series regularHere is the new summary for The Vampire Diaries Season 3 and we have some very, VERY interesting storylines hinted at below – impending war between Forbes and Lockwood families? That can’t be good. Also, the release lists Joseph Morgan as a series regular, so we do believe some congratulations are in order? Via the CW press release:

8:00-9:00 P.M. “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES”
Based on the best-selling book series, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In season one, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved – in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago. In the explosive season finale, Elena’s uncle set a plan in motion that saw the return of the vengeful Katherine Pierce. In season two, Katherine’s appearance and her precise manipulation threw a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon, and the other residents of Mystic Falls were forced to choose sides as they fell victim to a new breed of danger. Stefan and Damon were later met with their greatest challenge yet – the arrivals of Elijah and Klaus, two of the “original” vampires. As Klaus goes head to head with Damon and takes a special interest in Stefan, he is also seemingly focused on breaking the “Sun and Moon” curse by sacrificing Elena. Yet no matter what action the brothers take to protect Elena, Klaus won’t be swayed from his mission, proving to be the most powerful vampire in existence. Season three opens the door to learn more about Klaus and The Original Family as his motives for wanting Stefan on his side are finally revealed. As Stefan sinks deeper into the dark side, Damon and Elena struggle with the guilt of their growing bond even as they work together to bring Stefan back from the edge. The ghosts from Jeremy’s past have a powerful message they’re trying to deliver to him, not to mention the impact they’re having on his relationship with Bonnie. And as Caroline and Tyler grow closer, a war erupts between their families. The series stars Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert, Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert, Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett, Candice Accola as Caroline Forbes, Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood, Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman and Joseph Morgan as Klaus. Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson (“Scream,” “Dawson’s Creek”), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Private”) and Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”).

As for The Hunters trilogy itself – since L.J. Smith is no longer writing The Vampire Diaries series, we’re not sure how much of the original concept (as alluded to in her blog) remains intact. Here’s the official release from HarperCollins:

A regular on national bestseller lists, having sold well over three million copies, The Vampire Diaries series is a classic of thrilling paranormal romance. The Vampire Diaries series has captured the hearts and imaginations of readers—and the CW network TV show that it inspired has introduced millions more to the chills, thrills, and heart-stopping romance. The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAhhh, just like old times, isn’t it? As you read this, the CW is holding their upfront in NYC and, thanks to Michael Ausiello, we have an “official” summary for Vampire Diaries season two. “Official” in quotation marks because, obviously, this summary is a bit tongue-in-cheek and doesn’t really tell us all that much. But it sure is fun to speculate, isn’t it? UPDATE: Courtesy of the CW, the full TVD write-up via the CWTV.com Blog…

Returning for its second season, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. During season one, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons − Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in 1864, while Damon was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago.
At the end of season one, Elena’s uncle set a plan in motion that brought the Founder’s Day celebration to an end amid chaos, destruction and death, and saw the return of the vengeful Katherine Pierce. Next season, the appearance of the villainous Katherine in Mystic Falls throws a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon, and the other residents of Mystic Falls must choose sides as they fall victim to a new breed of danger. New and unexpected friendships will be forged, allies will become enemies, and hearts will be broken. Stefan and Damon will be forced to face a villain more evil and diabolical than they ever believed possible.
And they’ll take their shirts off. Frequently. The series stars Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert, Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert, Sara Canning as Jenna Sommers, Katerina Graham as Bonnie Bennett, Candice Accola as Caroline Forbes, Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood and Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman.

And along with the summary comes the CW’s 2010-2011 fall schedule, which reveals Vampire Diaries is now paired with newcomer Nikita on Thursday nights. What do you guys think about the CW’s new Thursday night? (Schedule courtesy of Deadline Hollywood.)

Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Wesley are in attendance, so lots of goodness today. Stay tuned and put your party hats on.

Vampire Diaries: The ReturnThanks to Jen for letting us know that there’s a listing for Vampire Diaries: Midnight (the third book in the Return Trilogy) up on Amazon.co.uk now. We advise ignoring the dates (July 2010 seems highly unlikely unless the publishing world has harnessed time itself, given that book two, Shadow Souls, isn’t out until March, 2010), but the listing comes complete with what has to be one of the most profoundly spoilery summaries out there. Highlight the text below to read it.
The vampire love triangle that spawned hundreds of thousands of fans-and inspired a major new dramatisation shown on ITV -concludes in this powerful final volume of The Vampire Diaries. In Midnight, golden girl Elena Gilbert is back from the Dark Dimension, having successfully freed her vampire boyfriend Stefan Salvatore from imprisonment. Saving Stefan had an unlikely consequence: his vampire brother Damon Salvatore has become a mortal. While the trio reels from this latest twist, they must still deal with the demons that have taken over Elena’s hometown, Fell’s Church. As in every L.J. Smith novel, no matter how dark the night, there is always a happy ending. MIDNIGHT takes Elena, Stefan, and Damon to their darkest moments yet… Danger, romance, and paranormal mystery will keep readers fascinated with this captivating finale to the New York Times bestselling series.
It could get very spoilery for the books in the comments, so we’re going to put a big ol’ warning up. If you want the books to be a surprise when you read ‘em, don’t stray past the spoiler banner.

Don't say we didn't warn you!
