Friday evening was the CW’s panel presentation at the 2011 Winter Television Critics Association, fittingly titled Kick-Ass Women of the CW. In addition to Hellcats’ Aly Michalka, Nikita‘s Maggie Q and Lyndsy Fonseca, Smallville‘s Erica Durance, our very own Candice Accola and Nina Dobrev represented Vampire Diaries. Tweets were a-flyin’ during the panel itself, and we’ve collected a selection of photos below and visit the 2011 Winter TCA album in the Gallery to view all of them.
As more interviews, recaps, etc., roll out in the morning, we’ll continually update this post, so check back.

Candice Accola attended The Giving Lounge, a charity event in honour of the Golden Globes and Children’s Miracle Network, where she filmed a PSA for the CMN Hospitals. The PSA isn’t available yet, but you can head on over to Candice Accola Web to see a bunch of images from the event (including an HQ version of the cute teddy bear photo to the left).
Nina Dobrev has revealed to E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos how the cast entertained themselves during the recent snowpocalypse in Atlanta: they’re making a Funny or Die video. Fingers crossed that we get to see it!
If you’re heading to the Vampire Diaries EyeCon event in Atlanta at the end of March, you might be considering going on a Mystic Falls Tour. The price of the tour has been reduced down from $35 to $25 per person for the time around the convention, and if that wasn’t sweet enough, a deal has been struck with the owners of the property used as the Lockwood Mansion in the show, and a for an extra fee you can tour the grounds and inside of the mansion. You can find more information about pricing and how to arrange a tour here.
Finally, the Television Critics Association Winter press tour is underway (Vee will be posting Vampire Diaries gossip and goodies from that later on), and courtesy of @ericign, we can show you the new Vampire Diaries poster for the event. Hopefully the CW will release a HQ version soon, but until then we can cope with the giant leaf. ;)

Futon Critic has a series of “A Few Minutes With…” video interviews with the Vampire Diaries cast: Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, Steven R. McQueen, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis and Kevin Williamson. You can watch Kevin’s interview below and click everyone’s names to watch their video over on Futon Critic.
MTV’s Hollywood Crush continues to toss out interesting segments from their own video interviews; this new one is with Steven and Kevin and there are some definite hints about Katherine, Elena, and why the two look exactly alike:
Over on SyFy’s Blastr, Kevin Williamson discusses gay characters on The Vampire Diaries, diversity in general, and finding a good story (and provides a few more Season 2 hints in the process):
Williamson also won’t force a character to be gay when they need to be something else for the show. He’s writing a few guest-star parts now that won’t work as gay characters. “There’s plenty of characters coming, but the couple of regular characters that we’re bringing in are female, so I guess they could be lesbians, but we’re bringing them in for love interests. Once the wheels are in motion, it’s hard just to add something simply because you want to do it.”

In typical Thursday tradition, the news likes to attack us while we prepare for the next episode of the Vampire Diaries airing. This is also a pretty spoiler-heavy post, so we apologise in advance for looking like someone blacked-out a government document with coffee. ;)
First up, episode 14 has a title – Fool Me Once! – and was written by newcomer to the Vampire Diaries, Brett Conrad, and directed by Marcos Siega. We also have a synopsis, courtesy of KryptonSite’s Vampire Diaries site.
SECRETS OF THE TOMB — Stefan helps Elena and Bonnie out of a dangerous situation. Jeremy asks Anna to a party in the woods, unaware that she has her own reasons for wanting to meet him there. When Stefan, Damon and Elena work with Bonnie and Grams to open the tomb, everyone is shocked by what they discover.
There was a lot of interesting information revealed at the Vampire Diaries TCA panel earlier this month, but Fancast have revealed that there are a couple more little tidbits that are interesting in their own right, but even more interesting to fans of the books. You can read the whole thing over at Fancast, but we’re going to highlight the interesting spoilers here:
On Tyler:
All the speculation about Ty is right. Says Williamson, “If you read the books you know the character that has the curse. And it’s a repressed curse triggered by one particular activity that hasn’t happened yet. Its no secret its Tyler, and as we reveal the full moon and his aggression issues, we’ll let him explore his anger issues, his Daddy issues.”
Founders Day:
Damon will continue his attempts to resurrect Katherine. Williamson reveals, “We’re building towards the Founders Day celebration and the 150th anniversary of this town. It’s a happy little party but then there’s this tomb business to deal with, and there’s 26 vampires down there. The whole back nine focuses on that tomb.”
As if we weren’t excited enough already with “Bloodlines” tonight and the next few episodes, now we have this to keep our minds spinning with the possibilities. ;)

We’re catching up on some tidbits, so there will be a few posts coming your way. But first up, a special reminder that Ian Somerhalder’s appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly airs tomorrow morning, Monday, January 18th. Check your local listings for times on their website.
Speaking of Mr. Somerhalder, he shares a very amusing anecdote involving Damon, Lexi, and Matthew Fox’s 12-year old daughter over at TV Guide Magazine. Not gonna lie – we kind of love her. (Read the entire story at TV Guide Magazine.)
“It’s 1:30 in the morning—there’s a six hour time difference between Hawaii and Atlanta—and Matthew calls me and says, ‘Listen, dude, she wants to talk to you. You need to justify some things to her. She’s not happy with you.’ So she drilled me with these questions and I was explaining my actions and saying, ‘There are times when you find yourself in situations that you may have to hurt someone for the betterment of the family, which is what Damon was doing.’ And every time I’d start explaining something, she’d go ‘Yep, uh huh. And…?’ It was an interesting hour for me!”
Unreality Primetime has some Ian London press which yields a few interesting nuggets (Damon’s age when he turned? 23). He talks about the usual, but it was his personal influences for Damon that made us smile:
Who or what were your influences when deciding on how to play the character of Damon?
“Three big ones. Josh Holloway, (Sawyer in Lost) Cary Grant and Dionysus. The marriage of a crazy crass redneck with the class of an eloquent man like Cary Grant is an interesting way to play a crazy well rounded 150 year old guy who likes a dance and the finer things in life – like blood, wine and Beethoven. Then you add in Dionysus – Damon is essentially Bacchus, he is that figure.”
And here we have a brief video chat with Ian and Nina Dobrev backstage at the TCA’s, in which Nina reveals a secret talent. We don’t know about you, but we are now earwormed. Thanks to VDO for the heads up.

Thanks to RadarOnline for dropping us a line this morning about their chat with Sara Canning. (Which perked us up, must say. Think the only thing rarer than a Sara interview is a Steven R. McQueen one – cough.) She talks about moving in with Nina Dobrev, adjusting to Atlanta’s decidedly non-Canadian weather, and hints that those meaningful glances between Jenna and Alaric might graduate to…oh, well, who knows with this show? At least she seems to love working with Matt Davis, whom she deems “hysterical.” (But will Jenna come up with a snappy nickname for Alaric? “Scumfell” was a beautiful thing.)
Canning is definitely having fun with her role despite not being one of the high school characters. “I think Jenna is really fun to play because she is a parental figure on the show but is still really young herself,” the 22-year old actress said. “She is really feisty, spirited, and headstrong. And she’s still going through those rough patches with guys.”
Read the entire interview on RadarOnline.
The CW had a cocktail party following the TCA panel this past Saturday (Bloody Marys in honor of Vampire Diaries, nice one) and they’ve released some photos from the event, which you can view below, courtesy of Cynthia over at SFUniverse. (That’s CW president Dawn Ostroff with Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder). Note the Love Sucks threesome poster (the other one) – slightly different version than ones we’ve seen before.
@LilMissX has also posted some nice behind the scenes candids from TCA, including shots of Kevin Williamson and Nina, Ian with Dawn Ostroff and Nina and Ian playing with some Vampire Diaries promo goodies.
Lots of recaps coming out of the TCA panel, but this tidbit in particular gave us a good laugh this morning (and we’re begging the PTB to include this on the season one DVD set, por favor) – courtesy of Teen Television, re: on-set bloopers:
Paul: There was that blooper when you [Nina] were Katherine, and you had that really long dress and fell. She was trying to be all sexy.
Ian: Adorable and sexy.
Paul: And then she was “Boys, chase me”.
Ian: And then she like “wham,” and all you just see are her knickers.
Nina: And then I couldn’t get up because it was so much dress that I was just sitting there, like “save me.”
Paul: We’re hysterically laughing. Then we were like, “Are you okay?”
Ian: We didn’t even help her! It’s on camera. [She falls] and her petticoat goes up.

For those who weren’t aware, the Television Critics Association Press Tour is under way, and the panel for the Vampire Diaries took place today. Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder were all there, along with executive producers Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Bob Levy.
The panel was only 30 minutes long, but there were all kinds of tidbits thrown out into the Twittersphere. On the virtually spoiler-free front:
- Julie Plec confirmed that those synopses that have been floating around on IMDB are as fake as a very fake thing.
- The writers are going to address why exactly Stefan and Damon can’t trust each other.
- Alaric is going to start featuring more in the second half of the season, when we’ll discover why he came to Mystic Falls.
As for the spoilery… highlight/mouseover to find out:
- There are no plans to turn Elena into a vampire any time soon.
- We’ll be seeing some Damon and Katherine kissing action.
- Things are going to be hotting up between Damon and Elena as they start to address that love triangle thing.
- The second half of the season will see “Damon finally having to step up and act like a big brother when something huge happens to Stefan.”
- Bonnie and Elena’s relationship is set for a rocky patch. Kevin Williamson says that now Bonnie is aware of vampires “she has to make a choice, is she down with it or is she going to have a problem with it?”
- Damon’s going to continue to be very interested in Bonnie – she’s going to be important in getting that tomb open.
You can read more details about the panel over on the TV Addict’s live blog post, and if you’re looking for pictures of the event, Zimbio have got some up of everyone on the panel.
