We did say we had quite a few bits and bobs to post. First up, we have video of Katerina Graham’s appearance on the Mo’Nique Show last night. In her first ever chat show appearance she talks about how she started out with singing and background dancing, about Bonnie Bennett, and a message for people to work hard and believe in themselves to achieve their potential.
Malese Jow (you may recognise her from Nickelodeon shows) teased her Twitter followers a while back with a clue to her next project. She’s since tweeted to say that she’s been watching the Vampire Diaries and can’t wait to start filming, and has recently arrived in Atlanta. We don’t actually know what role she’s playing, but there was a casting call posted a while back for a character named ‘Anna’, and Malese certainly seems to fit the bill for the role.
IGN posted up a couple of stills from episode 10, “The Turning Point”, featuring Stefan and Damon. We note police activity in the background there. Has Damon been naughty again?

Many thanks to Rose for directing us to this. Book three of the Vampire Diaries is due out in Portugal this month, and you can see the cover for it right here.

Finally, quite a few people have expressed interest in purchasing Vampire Diaries posters. Well, now you can, as the WB store has three for you to choose from. Thanks to Vampire Diaries Guide for the heads up.

SpoilerTV have posted some stills from episode nine, “History Repeating”. Lots of Stefan and Damon (the darts scoreboard amuses us for some reason), along with some of Alaric, Jenna and Jeremy. UPDATE: Added the stills to our gallery.
Broadcasting & Cable has posted an article about Kevin Williamson, about liking scary movies, his career (including Scream and Dawson’s Creek) and working on the Vampire Diaries with the CW. There’s some nice praise for Kevin from Peter Roth (president of the WB) and Dawn Ostroff (president of the CW), along with quite a few quotes from the man himself.
According to Williamson, Vampire Diaries marks the first project since Dawson’s where he has felt that sort of magic. “This show is kind of blessed,” he says.
While we don’t yet have a cover for the TV series tie-in of The Fury, we do have a date. HarperTeen have it listed with an expected publication date of April 27, 2010, and you can pre-order it there or on Amazon.com. Still nothing listed for Dark Reunion, but we’ll keep an eye out.
On a related note, the WB have a new Vampire Diaries t-shirt up for sale for $19.95.

Finally, we’ve seen a lot of Halloween pumpkin carving going on using images from both True Blood and Twilight. It got us wondering if any of you talented people out there were planning on carving some pumpkins (or making other Halloween decorations, for that matter) with a Vampire Diaries theme? If you are, we’d love it if you’d send us pics of your projects, and if we get enough to make it worthwhile we’d like to feature them in a blog post on Halloween. Get gutting those pumpkins, people. ;)

Our friends over at Vampire Diaries BG have been awesome enough to share all four of the brand new Bulgarian covers for the Vampire Diaries with us. Many thanks, guys! The Awakening (Пробуждането) is set for publication on the 16th September (having been moved up from October), though there are no dates set yet for the rest of the series. We’ll let you all know as soon as we know the dates ourselves.
These covers use the same half-face theme as many of the recent publications around the world are using at the moment, but we have to point out an interesting and applause-worthy twist: they have Bonnie on the cover of Dark Reunion. Now, how cool is that? Ibis publishers, we salute you!

At last, we have some book news to report! We know, we were as shocked (and pleased!) as you are. ;) The L.J. Smith book cover goddess, Lorraine, has updated her LJS Cover Resource website with a whole host of new covers (which are worth a look at if you’re fans of L.J. Smith’s books in general, not just the Vampire Diaries). We’re reposting the Vampire Diaries ones here with her kind permission, along with some more publication information.
First up, the USA cover for The Return: Shadow Souls with Damon on the front. We’ve seen the textless version of this cover before, but this is the first we’ve seen of the cover complete with title. As far as we’re aware, publication is still set for February 9, 2010.

It transpires that The Return: Nightfall is actually being published in two parts in both Italy (below, left) and Poland (below, right). The second part was published in Poland in July, and Italy can expect to see it at some time in November.

Finally, Germany seems to have slipped in a set of original series reprints under the radar. As far as we can tell from the Amazon.de listing they’re available now and look to be a bundle deal.

Update: We’d also like to remind everyone that you have until August 18th to enter the contest to win all of the Vampire Diaries books over on the official website. Open to residents of the USA only, be sure to read the rules before entering.

Back in June we reported that HarperTeen was re-releasing The Struggle and The Awakening on the 25th August of this year. The covers hadn’t been revealed at that point, and we speculated that there may well be a TV series tie-in. Looks like we were right, as HarperTeen has now revealed the new covers, both of which which feature Elena, Stefan and Damon as portrayed by Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in the TV series. You can click on the thumbnails for larger images.

In other reprint news, the cover for the UK omnibus edition of The Fury and The Reunion (which is the title Dark Reunion goes by in the UK) has turned up on Amazon. It looks as if the apple cover (of which we will not speak) is here to stay for The Awakening and The Struggle. The publication dates for these are still being listed as the 6th August for volume one, and 3rd September for volume two.

We also have news on the Return Trilogy. According to Amazon.com, Nightfall is set for a paperback release on January 5th, 2010 in the USA, while Shadow Souls is still listed with a hardcover release date of 9th February, 2010. In the UK, Amazon.co.uk are listing January, 2010 for the Nightfall paperback release, and February, 2010 for Shadow Souls. These will likely be imports from the USA, as was the case with the hardcover version of Nightfall.

Read the complete rules here. No purchase necessary, must be 13 years of age or older to enter and a resident of the United States (we know – that sucks, but we’ll keep an eye out for similar contests open internationally, never fear).

With people hearing about the Vampire Diaries for the first time, one of the things that they’re curious about is what the vampires in the series are like. For those interested, we’re going to list the main characteristics and traits of the vampires in the world of L.J. Smith’s Vampire Diaries book series. Quite how many of these things will make it into the TV series and how many of them will be changed we have no clue, but we know a few already have.
If you want to find out all about the vampires in the TV series, head on over to Vampire Lore 101: The TV series edition.

In recent months there has been an influx of new people in the fandom who have just read The Vampire Diaries, in particular the double-volume reprints from 2007. In fact, many newcomers to the books have been known to assume that there are just three books in the series rather than the actual five. People are surprised to discover that the books were originally printed as individual volumes, and even more surprised to find out how long the series has existed.
The Vampire Diaries has been around since 1991, and has been reprinted many times over in many different countries. You can imagine that with the original four books alone, that generates quite a lot of covers. We figured it might be cool to showcase some of these various covers from the original series, from the old to the new, the interesting to the bizarre.
Thanks to Lorraine at the LJS Cover Resource and Incanto for providing these covers for the article. As always, you can expect some minor spoilers ahead. Clicking on the picture thumbnails will take you to larger, clearer versions of the covers.
