The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesTonight on the CW, 8/7pm sharp: The first encore episode in the countdown to the series’ return on March 25th. Relive the danger and heartbreak, smarmy Logan Fell, the twists and the, um, twisting (preceded by heart-rending declarations of love, we might add), and see events in a new light. Are there any mysteries left, four eps later? Yes, yes there are, and that’s why you should check out the discussion forum – for stimulating convo, wild theories, and impassioned debate about what the hell is going on in this show. And you can vote on it and check out the music playlist, too.

Oh, and you can check out this past week’s posts!

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThursday night marks the final encore of the excruciatingly long Hiatus from Hell – The Turning Point, which you guys voted your favorite episode of the series so far. As you peruse that laundry list of lingering questions you had after the original airing, rejoice that next week is finally – FINALLY – January 21st. That means Bloodlines (EP11) kicks off the 2010 chapter of The Vampire Diaries. And we’re not saying this is going to happen – so don’t come ’round with the pitchforks if it doesn’t – but who knows? Maybe the CW will have a nice Bloodlines surprise for us tomorrow night. We can hope, right?

On that note – what are YOU looking forward to? (Your most anticipated storyline not listed? Let us know in the comments.)

What storyline are you most looking forward to when the series returns?

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesI have a theory. It could be demons? No, not that one. We all know the saying “Nice guys finish last.” Well, I have a theory that most of those “nice guys” are not actually “nice,” but rather, losers. “Nice” is very often the adjective applied to someone about whom we have nothing else to say. It is the default adjective for our dealings with people out in the world—anyone who is not completely awful or absolutely fabulous is “nice,” causing the word to lose all meaning. Thus, “nice” often means mediocre, or okay-looking, or no-personality-but-at-least-he-didn’t-piss-me-off. I think that if there were an actual nice guy, he would definitely not finish last. In fact a girl (or boy) might be prone to forgetting all about “the bad boy” in favor of this rare specimen. Matt Donovan (or Matt Honeycutt to the book fans), I would argue, is one of these rare truly nice guys—“nice” in the very best sense of the word.

There are a number of different standard character roles in literature, film, and television, and amongst them is “the nice guy.” “The nice guy” role often overlaps with “the best friend,” “the sidekick,” “the everyman,” or sometimes, “the geek.” “Nice guys” usually have unrequited feelings for a “nice girl,” who, of course, should not be confused with the “nice guy,” since “nice girls” are a totally different deal. Yes, the world isn’t fair. The “nice guy” is usually overshadowed by a friend with special abilities—sometimes athletic, musical, or super-powered.

Alaric in the Vampire DiariesIt’s the final night of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon, with eight episodes down, and just two more to go. Last night saw “Haunted” and “162 Candles” draw in 1.8 million viewers, doing better than an average new episode of Melrose Place. Tonight’s pair of episodes surpass all the preceding episodes on the awesome scale, so here’s to them gaining even more viewers. We’re just sad that danged cliffhanger that won’t be resolved until January 21, 2010.

Here’s the combined episode reaction post for “History Repeating” and “The Turning Point”. You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). And don’t forget to vote in the polls to let us know what you thought of the episodes.
