The NWF is one of many organizations working to provide Gulf oil spill relief and Vampire Support has launched its first online auction of vampire merchandise to help raise much-needed funds.

Some of the items up for bid: autographed photos of Michael Trevino and Charley Bewley (Twilight), autographed unofficial companions/guides to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Bood, and Vampire Diaries, a slew of Vampire Diaries merch (including t-shirts and limited edition bags), and a Vampire Diaries poster autographed by Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesGathering up some stray bits here (two of which we threw out on Twitter earlier, so sorry for the redundancy):

Paul Wesley will be on the NY PIX Morning News (on NYC CW affiliate Channel 11) this Monday, August 31st, at 7:45 a.m. Looks like they keep a blog, and post up things quickly, so keep an eye out for video and photos of Mr. Wesley talking about the awesomesauce that is Stefan and Vampire Diaries.

IESB has a comprehensive rundown of Nina Dobrev’s comments at the TCA panel in Pasadena, some of which we’ve seen before and some we have not:

Q: How has the show affected your life?

Nina: The show hasn’t aired yet, and we’re in Georgia, in a very small town. At first, I was a little skeptical and scared to be moving again. I had just moved to L.A., so I was like, “Oh, I have to get up and move my life again.” But, I got there, and there’s something about going to work, getting your things done, going home and not really having that much to do, and just sitting at home in your sweats and watching a movie. I love that.

And finally, Deadbolt has an article: 5 Ways The Vampire Diaries May Take a Bite Out of Twilight. Not sure we buy “The Vancouver Factor” as a reason (with apologies to Vancouver), but there are some interesting points raised throughout:

With so much time in between Twilight films, The Vampire Diaries could fill the love triangle void that Twilight Saga fans will be missing once New Moon leaves theatres. After all, nothing says love like two vampires squaring off to the death over a human girl. Oh, the irony. But remember, there was also a love triangle in Buffy the Vampire Slayer between Angel, Buffy, and Spike, which proved to be more successful than anyone could have imagined.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWomen’s Wear Daily has a brief interview with Nina Dobrev, in which she discusses how she got her start as an actor, the appeal of vampires, the (inevitable and persistent) comparisons between The Vampire Diaries and Twilight, and the challenge of TVD’s gory special effects.

Dobrev admits comparisons are unavoidable. “Both are about vampires, so there are going to be similarities whether we like it or not,” she says. “[But] we’re darker than ‘Twilight.’ We’re a little steamier.”

The show also features much gorier special effects, something that’s been a challenge for Dobrev. “I literally pass out when I see blood,” she says. “It’s very inconvenient for what I’m doing.”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesPaul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, and Katerina Graham, along with executive producers Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, and Bob Levy, answered questions from TV reporters and bloggers during the CW’s Vampire Diaries panel today at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. (No, Ian was not there, nor Steven R. McQueen – it’s a feat that any of the cast was there considering they’re in mad filming mode right now.)

We sort of live-re-tweeted during the panel this morning (while multi-tasking!), but below is a list of links to various articles, blogs, live blogs, and odd bits of consequence, and then under the spoiler-cut will be quotes and tidbits of particular interest to fans. Put your spec helmets on.

The Vampire Diaries TVFirst off, let’s get something straight right now: this talk of The Vampire Diaries cast looking like they didn’t want to be there during the panel? Come on. After you film ’til 6 a.m., hop on a cross-country flight, endure a day of non-stop appearances and press (answering the same questions over and over), and there’s no sleep slotted in there anywhere, see how you feel. I’m impressed they were able to form coherent sentences, let alone smile and make a marathon run of it like they did.

And it was a marathon. My (nowhere-near-as-hectic) day started off at the Lost panel – I’m going to miss that show so hard, guys, I can’t even tell you – and while there was no appearance from Mr. Somerhalder (see above), he was there in spirit during a hilarious and poignant “In Memoriam” tribute video that highlighted the various character deaths on the show. But, as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Boone fans will have something to look forward to in Lost‘s final season – with the full cooperation of Vampire Diaries executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. As they commented during the panel, they’re Lost fans too, and friends with showrunner Damon Lindelof.

My cell reception in Hall H was crap, but somehow I managed to catch KW’s tweet that the Vampire Diaries signing at the Warner Bros. booth was happening at 1:30 p.m., not 3 p.m. as had originally been listed. I don’t know if it was bumped up due to a scheduling conflict with press or the vocal concern from a lot of fans that it was too close to the actual panel (yes, three hours is too close, trust me), but it was welcome news.

By the way, Vampire Diaries bags were everywhere all weekend, and they’re starting to pop up on eBay. I never managed to snag one, alas. I’m also told there were buttons at the WB booth but never saw them myself. I did, however, see the giant “Trio in the Grass” (as we’ve dubbed it) banner hanging from the ceiling for all to see, and that same image adorned the posters used during the signing.

If you’ve never been to Comic Con, it’s difficult to describe the size and scope of the WB booth, but it’s one of the cornerstones of the Exhibit Hall floor, and the crowd that gathers around it – especially with the constant stream of signings going on – is often ten people deep around the perimeter. After attempting to find the line for the signing and giving up, I just tried to snap as many (crappy) cell phone pics as possible to get up on Twitter immediately. Paul, Ian, Nina, Julie, Kevin, and Bob arrived about 10 minutes before the signing, hanging out on the second story and snapping photos with their phones.

The Vampire Diaries: The Fury/Dark ReunionSabrina Rojas-Weiss has a new installment of her Book Report: The Vampire Diaries up on MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog. While I think Red will take great exception to what she has to say about Matt (that flag flies high around these parts!), she does list off five reasons why the series will appeal to “Twilighters and Twi-Haters.” She touches on why Elena Gilbert kicks ass and why her friends are awesome, the appeal of Stefan and Damon, and why Fell’s Church is a very interesting place to live.

We also appreciate that she’s unafraid to touch on the series’ faults, too. Read the entire post over on the Hollywood Crush blog.

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening/The StruggleMTV News blogger/editor Sabrina Weiss dropped us a line about a weekly feature kick-started today on MTV’s brand new (and very, very, very PINK) Hollywood Crush blog: The Book Report, “dedicated to the many, many young adult novels that are equally worthy of our obsession.” (“Equally worthy” to Twilight, that is.) L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening is the first read up for discussion: “your thoughts about it, how it compares to “Twilight,” and what you think the TV show will be like.” Check out the post here.

Ian Somerhalder as Damon SalvatoreMTV has an article up in which Ian Somerhalder talks about how the success of Twilight has meant that the Vampire Diaries was able to be turned into a TV series, how he likes playing a vampire, and a little bit of an insight into his thoughts on Damon’s nature.

There’s also a short video, which is essentially what is already stated in the article, but I’m sure you all want to take a look anyway. Apologies to non-US fans (or it may just be UK fans), MTV won’t let us watch it. If we find a version that everyone can see, we’ll let you know.
