SURPRISE! Damon Salvatore is the new Bachelor!

SWAN DIVE! Into an encore airing of Under Control (EP18) at 8/7c on the CW. Let’s get dressed up and revisit what happens when a Founder’s Party goes horribly awry. Let us also reminisce about how much we like drunk-and-dancing Stefan, a snarky and dolled-up Sheriff Forbes, and when Damon is thrown off-kilter by pesky Founding relatives named John Gilbert (or we can just call him “Jackass”). Ponder how Kelly Donovan seems to find herself in some very unfortunate situations, worry about the condition of Matt’s face when Tyler is through with him, and cheer Jeremy on as he starts asking questions about Vicki. As for Elena… Well, cringe as she remains momentarily oblivious to the fact her relationship with Stefan is about to take a HUGE, skidding turn into “Crazy Train” territory.

Congrats to @DSylvan for this week’s caption – which especially amuses us when we imagine drunk!Stefan dancing “off-screen.” She wins an autographed copy of Plumb’s Chaotic Resolve (featuring “Cut”), as well as an autographed photo of the band. Thanks to everyone who entered our little Twitter contest – it was a tough one to call this week! (One thing we know for sure? Alaric is VERY concerned about the state of his abs – for Jenna’s sake, you understand.)

Catch up on this past week’s posts!

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesFirst up – hey, lucky Americans: The CW has webclips and the extended promo for Miss Mystic Falls (EP19) already up on their website. They also have the “Three Episodes Left” promo up, with sneak peeks at upcoming episodes. You can check them all out on CWTV.com. Everyone else: we’re sure they’ll hit YouTube soon enough. Keep an eye on the blog.

Busy morning already. Thanks to KrystonSite, here’s the full episode synopsis for Isobel (EP21). Highlight for spoilers or read in the Episode Index.

ISOBEL RETURNS TO MYSTIC FALLS – Isobel returns to town and stuns Alaric with her attitude and her demands that he arrange a meeting with Elena. When mother and daughter finally meet, Isobel refuses to answer most of Elena’s questions, but reveals that she will stop at nothing to find the mysterious invention Jonathan Gilbert has been searching for. Isobel’s dangerous actions lead Stefan, Damon and Bonnie to step in and help Elena deal with the situation.

The episode was written by Caroline Dries and Brian Young and directed by J. Miller Tobin.

Last night’s Vampire Diaries episode, Under Control, pulled in around 3 million viewers and beat FlashForward in the 18-49 age demo. We’ll update with the CW’s press release when it’s released, but you can get the details over at TV By the Numbers.

And for those looking for Under Control streaming/downloads…

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesPROMO FOR MISS MYSTIC FALLS (EP19)

COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR UNDER CONTROL (EP18)

Bad news for fans in Rochester, NY. CW16 has pre-empted the Vampire Diaries and Supernatural in favour of a baseball game. We’ve heard they’ll be aired on Saturday instead, but there’s no official word on that on the website. We’ll update when we know for sure.

If you experienced sound problems while watching this episode, please drop a comment here in the blog with the following information:

  • Your CW affiliate and city
  • Whether you have cable, DirectTV, antenna, etc.
  • Optional (but helpful if you know): Whether your station broadcasts in 5.1 Dolby sound.

Watch and then swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Spoilers are welcome in the comments, though if you want some more in-depth discussion then head on over to the forums! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.) Discussion is already crazy over there in anticipation for this episode!

Quick guide to the poll options: There seems to be something to this moon imagery. We just can’t quite put our paws on it…
5 moons = LOVE. 1 moon = MEH.

What did you think of Under Control (EP18)?

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe L.A. Times’ Carina MacKenzie talked with Melinda Clarke about her time on The Vampire Diaries, and she hints that tonight’s episode may leave a door open for a return to the show. She discusses why Kelly Donovan and the O.C.‘s Julie Cooper are very different, shooting in a harsh Atlanta winter, the producers’ strategy telling the Vampire Diaries story, and why she thinks the series has been so successful. (She touches on her role in the CW’s Nikita pilot, too.!)

Kelly had some very, very emotional scenes last week when she found out that her daughter’s body had been discovered. How’s she going to process her grief?

What’s great about “The Vampire Diaries” is what’s not said. Kevin and Julie give a lot of credit to the audience, letting viewers read between the lines. Let’s just say that based on Kelly’s track record, I wouldn’t expect her to get any mother of the year awards after Friday night. There’s a pretty intense thing that happens between her and Matt. These stories are a little bit of a tickle and a taste of what’s to come. I have no idea what will happen in the future, but for right now, we leave Kelly in a very, very satisfying place.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWho’s finally making his long-awaited debut on Vampire Diaries tonight? <-- THIS GUY. Yes, David Anders fans, the moment has finally arrived. Uncle John Gilbert is crashing your TVD viewing party. Word at the Grill is that he’s trouble – and that’s exactly what we like to hear about a new Mystic Falls arrival. After the epic, gut-wrenching drama of last week (seriously, how incredible was Let the Right One In?), we have a feeling he’s going to be the cherry on top of a giant angst sundae tonight. Lots of questions hanging right now: Will Stefan be able to resist temptation? How will Elena deal with the “new” Stefan? Will she finally come clean with Jeremy? Will Anna forgive Jeremy? Will Matt push Caroline away after last week’s discovery? What has Tyler so angry in the Under Control promo, and who’s going over that balcony? And let’s not forget new BFFs Damon and Alaric – drinking, hanging out.

ONLY FOUR EPISODES LEFT BEFORE THE FINALE ON MAY 13th.

Get your anticipation under control:

@LilMissX tweeted a SUPER-SPOILERY still for a future episode of Vampire Diaries. We think it may be for episode 21, but don’t know for sure. BUT IT IS A SPOILER so don’t say we didn’t warn you. You can check it out in the Gallery.

Thanks to @IHeartTVD for the heads up on this: CharityBuzz currently has a TVD-related auction up – Have Your Voicemail Recorded by Katerina Graham and Take Home a Cast-Signed Poster from “Vampire Diaries.”

Thanks, CW, for helping take the edge off the “Is it Thursday yet?” wait. Two new webclips for this week’s episode have been uploaded to the CW’s Vampire Diaries site. You can check ‘em out there (U.S. only) or check ‘em out below, courtesy of TVDItalia. (We will post the official CW versions once they’re up on YouTube.) In the first clip, we have Damon questioning Stefan’s efforts to get back on the wagon (so to speak) and the second clip has Alaric and Elena talking secrets.
