THREE WEEKS. How are you holding up? The good news is that the CW is counting down to new episodes of The Vampire Diaries (March 25th!) with three excellent eps, back to back, and tonight is the cheekily titled Unpleasantville. A kiss in the headlights! Bonnie’s bangs! Stefan’s and Damon’s dance moves! Alaric “balls of vervain” Saltzman! Stalker!Anna and Clueless!Jeremy. Two tools named Noah and Ben. And, yes, miz Elena “I have pencils and I am not messin’ around” Gilbert. Oh, and did we mention the best songlist of any episode thus far? Relive those magic moments tonight, vote in the poll, and discuss with your fellow fans in the forum.
Also, @LilMissX posted this new behind the scenes still of Ian, Nina, and Paul to help soothe those hiatus jitters:

And via Michael Ausiello, a spoilery tidbit on what we can expect from Damon in upcoming episodes:
Question: How does Damon cope with the news that Katherine was never in the tomb on The Vampire Diaries? —Christine
Ausiello: “Damon spends most of episode 14 and a good portion of 15 drunk,” reveals exec producer Julie Plec. “Watching him sort of spiral into the abyss of self pity is kind of hilarious.”

The intrepid Niyah of @CW_VampDiaries was at the Hot Topic Vampire Diaries Cast Tour stop in Los Angeles yesterday and managed a ton of fantastic photos and video of the madness, including part of A Fine Frenzy‘s performance. We know it was a long day of waiting, but huge thanks to Niyah for sticking out and sharing her experience with fellow fans. (And follow @CW_VampDiaries on Twitter!) Click to see bigger versions in the Gallery.
Check out the videos on @C_VD’s YouTube channel (five total). And here’s another fan video from the floor (courtesy of Jenny Rae – hi! Thanks for the email – we’re glad we could make you happy by posting your video!):
And Just Jared, Jr. has even MORE HQ photos from the event. UPDATE: And Jen from Nina Dobrev Fan, who was also in attendance, has some personal photos and a mini-recap up on her site. And AP Images has a crapton of great shots as well.
And the Unpleasantville chapter of The Televixen’s Vampire Diaries podcast is up: Nobody Puts Elena in the Corner. The ‘cast features Melissa (@thetelevixen, TheTelevixen.com), Connie (@conallen, Blast Magazine), Lucia (@heroine_tv, Heroine TV), and…me! This one was a lot of fun, as evidenced by the laughter throughout. We recorded it the night before Children of the Damned aired (that podcast should be up soon) and I think the prospect of flashbacks was making us a bit giddy.

For those of you who love behind the scenes peeks at the Vampire Diaries set, thanks to Small Screen Scoop we have a whole bunch from “Unpleasantville” up in the gallery.
The overnight ratings for the episode are in, with it pulling in 3.72 million viewers in the USA. From TV By the Numbers:
The other big beneficiary of the weaker competition at 8pm was CW’s Vampire Diaries, which was up 13% from its slow post-repeat gap start last week to a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, near its season average for new episodes. Vampire Diaries had its best adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and total viewer (3.72mil) numbers since Nov. 12.
If you missed the episode (or just want to watch it again), “Unpleasantville” is now available to watch/download in several places (and no, we don’t know why Amazon didn’t have it up until today, either).
USA fans: Download from Amazon
UK fans: Download from iTunes
Canadian fans: Watch for free on CTV
Finally, for a bit of fun, go and vote in the unofficial CW awards at Watch With Kristin. Get those votes in there for the Vampire Diaries, people. ;)

Thanks to JSYK.com for letting us know about even more footage from their Vampire Diaries set visit, this time focusing on the developing relationship between Caroline and Matt. They sit down with both Zach Roerig and Candice Accola to discuss this surprise connection, how this flirtation might affect other relationships on the show, and how the chmistry amps up in tonight’s episode, Unpleasantville. (And Zach reveals something about tonight’s episode sure to mildly devastate the Matt fans in the house.)
Candice: I think originally there had been talks of Caroline and Tyler, so… Yeah! It was definitely a surprise.
Zach: I think Matt’s still kinda unsure if Caroline’s for real. She’s easily got five or six different guys probably that she’s with and I’m a one-woman kinda guy.

School dances and The Vampire Diaries go together like peanut butter and chocolate – so are you ready for the sock hop? Tonight’s episode – Unpleasantville – features a ’50s dance, complete with letter jackets, poodle skirts, and a boss soundtrack. Oh, and we think Elena might be in mortal danger, but a girl needs fodder for the diary. (Speaking of, we don’t care what anyone says, we kinda miss that – though we’re not complaining about eavesdropping on Alaric’s entries. Nooooope.) No need for a date to attend this party; stag is more than welcome. Don’t be a square: Tune in to the CW Network tonight at 8/7c.
IMPORTANT: General public tickets for The Vampire Diaries panel at PaleyFest (Saturday, March 6th) are on sale now and Paley is taking questions for the panelists on their website. And the Hot Topic Vampire Diaries Cast Tour hits New Jersey this weekend! The cast signing is SOLD OUT but the Q&A is open to the public.

Just So You Know visited the set of The Vampire Diaries back in November and has posted a brief behind the scenes video of their experience. See Michael Trevino’s bizarre effect on lights, Zach Roerig’s amusement at loud noises, Nina Dobrev’s dedication to the cause of chocolate, and other peeks at on-set goings-on and promotional photo shoots. You can also check out photos during the filming of tomorrow night’s episode Unpleasantville, featuring Nina and Candice Accola.
Lots of new interviews to share today (thanks to everyone who bombarded us with links!)…
SciFind talks to Nina Dobrev about Elena, the vibe on the set, her own (recent!) paranormal experience, and the choice between Stefan or Damon:
I don’t know because if I were in [Elena's] position I would be torn too. I think separately they are very different; Stefan is the romantic, determined, very committed man who is so deeply in love with her and would do anything to protect her. Damon is very playful and fun and open and that’s what Stefan lacks, he doesn’t have this openness, he keeps secrets and doesn’t tell her everything so basically together, they make the perfect man. At the beginning of the series, it’s just Stefan all the time, but it might not always be that way.
The gossip blogs’ tongues are wagging over the prospect of Nina Dobrev and Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl guest starring on each other’s shows. Considering Bob Levy is executive producer on both shows, it’s not entirely out of the question, but we find it funny that the articles mention that Leighton and Nina met on the set of The Roommate when it’s Katerina Graham who co-stars with Ms. Meester in the film? And speaking of Nina, thanks to Nina Dobrev Fan for this peek at Nina’s recent shoot in ZINK! magazine (via I Heart Vampire Diaries). And check out this behind the scenes video of her SELF magazine photo shoot.
Paul Wesley reveals details of his first kiss over at Seventeen (via JSYK) and his worst audition experience in the new issue of VMan (courtesy of JustJared).
“Once I finished a read, looked at the director, and said, ‘That didn’t go very well, did it?’ He gave me a stern look, crossed his arms, and said, “No, it didn’t.’ I was devastated.”
PopStar talks with Ian Somerhalder about Damon, Katherine, and the popularity of vampires. Here’s what he had to say about the show’s success:
You always hope that what you do will do well. That’s why you do something, in the hope that it’ll take off, that you’ll enjoy yourself and that people will enjoy it with you. We never really had many expectations, which I think is the best way to protect yourself. I remember that (producer) Julie Plec made a joke one time. It was after we’d premiered and we were doing quite well. She said that we didn’t really have any expectations, but secretly, we wanted to take over the world. That was pretty funny because you want your show to succeed, you want it to be good, and luckily we have writing that is superb and everything — the acting, the way it’s shot, the way it’s directed — works. As long as we can keep making it work, I don’t think anybody can snicker anymore.
And he talks Stefan and Damon’s relationship, fan letters (some from prison), and shooting in haunted locations over at TV Choice Magazine:
We shot in a plantation in Georgia where 150 slaves were mass murdered after the Emancipation Proclamation. The slaves were supposed to be freed and this one plantation owner said no. It was haunted. I am the most cynical person, I don’t believe in anything supernatural, but that place had some energy. It’s in the top 10 most haunted places in the United States. It’s written up all over the place.
And he has this to say over at SciFind:
What has been your highlight of the series so far?
“There are so many of them. There’s a highlight around every corner, there’s something new and interesting and fun and amazing. Just being on the show in general is a highlight.”
And thanks to VDO for the heads up on this amusing video interview with Ian over at People.com. Who do you think would win a fight between Damon and Edward Cullen? (The answer seems pretty obvious to us.)
We have some hi-res versions of Ian’s recent Vampire Diaries promo pics (as always, click to see bigger versions in the Gallery):

And, last, but certainly not least, Zach Roerig has a feature in the new issue of Savvy Magazine. Have some scans? Please get in touch!

Metro.co.uk has an interview with Ian Somerhalder about that show he’s starring in – you know, the one aimed at “moody teenagers” (you guys feeling moody today?). As you know, the Vampire Diaries lands on the UK’s ITV2 on February 2nd, and here Ian talks Damon, vampire groupies, Lost, modelling, extravagant purchases and, if he was a kangaroo, what he could keep in his pouch (I know it sounds like something we’d make up, but I swear we didn’t).
Your character is a bit of a rotter, isn’t he?
Yes, but I don’t judge him. Everyone has righteous reasons for what they do in the world. He believes what he’s doing is justified. He believes he’s been wronged by his brother and has vowed to make him miserable for eternity. He’s just living up to his promise.
Also from the UK, Wales on Sunday has an interview with Nina Dobrev. Aside from her love of the English accent (and what’s not to love *cough*), Nina talks about the show, Elena, and the sex appeal of vampires.
“I love my character, and I can’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil it but things get pretty intense and I get to do a lot of amazing, really cool things, so every day’s exciting and every day’s different.”
Back in the USA, Paul Wesley is a “proud non-conformist”, and talks about getting kicked out of school, how he got started in acting, and going out for the role of Stefan.
“I finally went in after reading a bunch of times and it was literally me and nine other guys _ a couple from Australia, a couple from London and some from New York. And a week later I was on the set filming. But it was way worth it, I’ll tell you that much. It’s the greatest part I’ve ever played. It’s a little more fun to play the villain, but this is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done and the thing I’ve fallen in love with the most.”
Thanks to Vampire Diaries Web we have some more stills from Thursday’s episode, “Unpleasantville” in the gallery:
And finally, we’ve had word from several readers Down Under that the Vampire Diaries will return with brand new episodes on Monday, February 8 on GO! in Australia.
