To whet your appetite for tonight’s episode, Homecoming, we have a few more interviews with Joseph Morgan for you! Over at TVLine, read about Klaus’s alternate career as a party planner (!), who he thinks should pull that dagger out, and his upcoming confrontation with a certain other Original:
It’s a thousand years in the making, so it’s going to be huge. The whole season so far, they’ve really ramped up the action and tried to really make it more and more dramatic and epic. This episode won’t disappoint. It will be a huge, huge confrontation. There are talks aplenty. There are lots of different people getting involved. There will be blood. It’s going to go down.
And over at TV Guide, Joseph talks about Klaus’s relationships with Mikael and Tyler, and in an audio interview excerpted in the video below, he offers this tantalizing suggestion: “I hope that Episode 9 will at least bring some understanding to his motives and some sort of sympathy back my way.”
More exclusive Vampire Diaries casting news, this time from Entertainment Weekly‘s Mandi Bierly: Persia White, known for her role as Lynn on Girlfriends (she’s also had spots on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel!), has been cast as Abby Bennett, the mother of our resident witch Bonnie.
She’ll first appear in episode 312 and recur. Abby is described as a beautiful but troubled woman who is burdened by the secrets of her past that led her to leave Bonnie. She’s also “as determined and fiery as any Bennett woman.”

With the mid-season finale just a day away, excitement is rising and Joseph Morgan is happy to edge it up another notch. E! Online spoke with the actor about this week’s episode (Homecoming, EP309) and he seems almost as excited as we are!
“The whole season has been upping the stakes dramatically, there’s more action, there’s more flashbacks, they’re really amping it up,” Morgan teases. “The midseason finale is just going to take it to a whole new level. There’s going to be a huge confrontation, blood will be shed. It’s going to be action-packed.”
Joseph had lots more to say including an offhand little comment that will have Team Elijah giving a rousing “Hell Yeah!”, so you’ll definitely want to watch the whole thing. Hang in there, everybody. Thursday is on its way!
The Hollywood Reporter has big, exclusive Vampire Diaries casting news: Torrey DeVitto (of One Tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars) has signed on to the show as a recurring character. We will meet her when the show returns from hiatus on Thursday, January 5th.
DeVitto, who married [Paul] Wesley in April, will play Mary, an intelligent young doctor intrigued by Alaric’s (Matt Davis) powers of recovery on the CW’s vampire drama. She’ll appear in Episodes 310 and 311 with a strong likelihood to continue on afterward.
Thanks to Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie, we know episode 310 is titled The New Deal and Ian Somerhalder revealed last week that episode 311 is called Our Town.
Rolling Stone has an exclusive peek at My Morning Jacket performing on tomorrow night’s Vampire Diaries (as well as just a look at yet another clip of the mid-season finale). They also talk to MMJ frontman Jim James about what songs the band perform (“Holdin On To Black Metal,” “First Light” and “You Wanna Freak Out” make the cut) and how it was being on set:
“All of the vampires and werewolves we met on the set of The Vampire Diaries were nice regular folks just like most of us – good upstanding citizens, but forced to live with this secret tragic double-life dilemma. They treated us most fairly and with dignity and respect as they sucked our bodily fluids dry and smothered us in sexy kisses. God bless them. God bless them all.”
Previously on The Vampire Diaries. This episode was crammed full of information, so this is one episode you’ll definitely want to brush up on before Homecoming (EP309) airs tomorrow night. You may also want to check out this post, that sums up what we learned, and covers some of the questions we still have about the mythology and secrets yet to be revealed.
In case you missed it, Trent Dabbs has made his song “Losing Ground” available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon. The song was featured in Ordinary People (EP308).
Flashback hair. Sword fights. Elijah. The origin story of a predatory species. A thousand-year-old lie. (Probably.) We got a ton of information in Ordinary People — if you haven’t already, make sure to read this rundown of the Original Family, complete with a boatload of speculation and interesting comments. As in every other good Vampire Diaries exposition session, it was done not only to satisfy our burning questions about how things came to be, but to push characters in compelling directions, provide parallels across storylines and centuries, and set up what is sure to be an explosive midseason finale next week.
