The CW has released the official synopsis for episode seven, “Haunted”, which will be airing on the 29th October. As usual, the synopsis is over on the index page so we don’t spoiler those who want to be surprised. We will say that it looks like it’s going to be a cracker of an episode, and waiting an extra week to see it with only a repeat for comfort? Torture! The episode was written by Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Andrew Kreisberg, and directed by Ernest Dickerson.
In ratings news, the Vampire Diaries is continuing to rock with 3.52 million viewers in the USA. You can read the CW press release about it over at TV by the Numbers:
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES soared to 108% year-to-year growth in The CW’s target demographic, women 18-34, with a 2.7/8, good for a first place tie in the time period against stellar competition. VAMPIRE also wooed more female teens than any other show on television last night with a 3.0/12, an absolutely batty 173% increase from the time period a year ago. The show also ranked first in its time period with total teens (2.1/8). Additionally TVD grew 27% year-to-year in adults 18-34 with a 1.9/6 and 69% in women 18-49 with a 2.2/6. The show also equaled its total viewer number from a week ago of 3.5M. VAMPIRE was also up 6% week-to-week in adults 18-34 and flat week-to-week in women 18-34.
There’s some behind the scenes footage from “You’re Undead to Me” in which they explain how they went about showing us Bonnie setting fire to the car at the fundraiser. Interesting stuff.
And finally, everyone who voted in the People’s Choice Hollywood Style Awards for Elena and Stefan as ‘hottest Fall couple’ will be pleased to know that they won. ;) Thanks for the info, Johanna!

So the fifth episode of The Vampire Diaries airs tonight. You know how not much happened last week? Oh, I kid – look at that title. I think it’s safe to say that things are going to ratchet up a notch – or ten – this week. In fact, this episode is apparently so intense, so chock full o’something, the CW didn’t release any episode stills. What’s that about? Well, you can get back to us later tonight.
Prod and ponder You’re Undead to Me spoilery tidbits (and put your spec helmets on before heading over to the discussion forum):
- Read the synopsis
- See episode stills – oh, that’s right, we don’t have any. Go look at those awesome stills for next week again.
- Watch promos 1 | 2
- Watch episode clips
We will once again be asking those of you who experience sound problems during broadcast to please, please let us know. We’ll have details in the poll post later this evening. Thanks to those of you who gave us a heads up last week – the information was passed along.

Candice Accola talks Caroline and Damon in PopSugar’s “6 Reasons You Can’t Live Without Vampires” video. Vampire Diaries talk starts at the 2:00 minute mark.
Thanks to Johanna and Only Paul Wesley for pointing out Paul’s feature in Australia’s Girlfriend magazine.
We tweeted this last night, but in case you missed it, via TV Guide’s MegaBuzz: a fan’s Vampire Diaries theory and Julie Plec’s sly spin on the issue.
UPDATE: And via Ask Ausiello: Find out why you shouldn’t miss this week’s episode OR next week’s.

There are a couple of clips from next week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries, “You’re Undead to Me”, on the cwgossip YouTube channel. The first is Caroline-centric with a splash of Damon, and the second is of Elena and Matt discussing Stefan, and Stefan’s being recognised by an old man.

SpoilerTV has posted a casting call for two characters in what we’re guessing is episode eight (it’s not clear if SpoilerTV are using production codes or episode numbers). Click the link to check them out.

We rounded up this factoid last night and weren’t quite 100% on it; seeing as the name popped up in our comments too, we feel pretty confident in saying that our Jason Harris in the Vampire Diaries: A Darker Truth webisodes is an actor by the name of Matt Perello. The only major credit we could find to his name is a film called Last Bullet. You can see his bio on the film’s website. (Thanks to Danielle and jlgparis for the info.)
Also: The start of our Vampire Diaries Episode Index is now up. Not much there now as we await network synopses and some titles for post-Pilot episodes, but you can get an idea for how we’re planning to organize it. The landing page will be fairly streamlined, with the bulk of info for each episode living elsewhere on the site. (And can we just mention that we’re getting more and more excited about adding to this? And soon? A note about the episode numbering: We went with the production numbers to avoid confusing the slew of you who follow the production team/cast on Twitter. If you’re still confused why you see different episode numbers elsewhere, check out the infobox on the Pilot episode entry in the Wiki for clarification.)
- [Images] Obviously this will link to that episode’s stills in our Media Gallery.
- [Spoilers] In an effort to curb some of the more spoilery spec here on the blog, spoilers will now live in the Spoiler Zone in our discussion forum. There are two reasons for this: 1) We wanted to make the choice to seek out spoilers just that – a choice. If you click into the Spoiler Zone and then come crying to us about being spoiled, we won’t have any sympathy for you, and 2) relegating the spoilers to the discussion forum will make it easier for people to talk about them freely, away from virgin eyes. That said, we’ve removed a lot of specifics from the spoilers posted (and context). From this point forward, we’re into building anticipation (and we know some of you live for spoilers), not ruining major plot points. That said, this doesn’t mean we’re eliminating spoilery topics from the blog completely and we’ll continue to use the spoiler banner to give a heads up. (And now “spoiler” doesn’t even sound like a real word anymore after all of that.)
- [Wiki Entry] This is where you will find expanded info about each episode, including a detailed synopsis (after the episode has aired in the U.S.), other cast info, trivia, production details, music, quotes, reviews, etc. And it’s as good as you help make it, so why not sign up for the Wiki and help out?
SpoilerTV has an synopsis for “Night of the Comet” (1.01 or episode 2) up on their site, via the CW. If you want a play-by-play of the ep, by all means – have at it. If you’d rather have a general, abbreviated version, you can check it out on the Episode Index page.
And finally, we have a slew of new spoilers up. Again, visit the Episode Index to pick your poison.
