Michael Trevino Previews The Ties That Bind (EP312)A select number of media outlets were invited to a round table interview with Vampire Diaries’ Michael Trevino today and he had some very interesting things to say about recent developments between Tyler and Caroline and…someone else, the lengths Tyler is willing to go to set things right in tomorrow night’s episode, and even who he’d like to see Tyler hook up with should he and Caroline be on the outs forever. Read (and watch!) the entire interviews at the below websites, but be cautioned there are spoilers for The New Deal (EP310), Our Town (EP311) and The Ties That Bind (EP312).

KSiteTV: Michael Trevino Of The Vampire Diaries Previews “The Ties That Bind”:

“At the end of last week’s episode we find out that as much free will as Tyler thinks he has, that sire bond is really a lot stronger than anybody could have imagined, so much so that he literally bites Caroline. But unwillingly. He’s as shocked as her. He’s like ‘How did I do that? Why did I do that?’ The sire bond is something not to be taken lightly,” Trevino says.

The Examiner: Michael Trevino teases Tyler’s ‘Vampire Diaries’ quest for forgiveness & freedom (VIDEO):

“It’s possible [there is no way to break the sire bond],” Trevino teased. “We don’t know for sure, but we know there are steps we have to do to get to that if you want to try. And it’s not the easiest process, but Tyler’s going to try.”

Zap2It: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Michael Trevino: How far will Tyler go for Caroline? (VIDEO):

He’s ready for a fight with Klaus if it comes down to it. “I would like a showdown. I know Julie [Plec] would write something epic. It’d be really good. Plus, just for me, with any kind of showdown, it’s great to work with a great actor, and Joseph’s pretty solid,” he jokes.

Entertainment Weekly: Michael Trevino teases Tyler’s struggle with Klaus — and his questionable future with Caroline:

So many things will definitely be changing for Mystic Falls’ number two hybrid, but Trevino assured EW that one essential thing would always remain the same: “Tyler is shirtless [tomorrow night], believe it or not,” he laughed. “Tyler is shirtless.”

Joseph MorganJoseph Morgan was at the TCA Press Tour yesterday, so he’s going to be popping up here on the blog a lot today – but after Our Town (EP311), we kind of doubt you’ll object to that. Danielle Turchiano at The Examiner has a great interview with Joseph about the way Klaus’s character is evolving as the series progresses:

“You know, I think the more we go into this series, the more we’re going to see more layers to [Klaus],” Morgan pointed out. “So certainly there’s a– I wouldn’t say softer, but a more caring side, a more tender side, a more human side that we’re going to see. I don’t think it’s a front that he puts on; I think it’s a switch. I think it’s a choice to say ‘I’m going to tear your head off,’ and it’s in a heartbeat that he switches, you know? It’s really one of the frightening things to a sociopath, which I believe he is. I don’t know that I believe he’s growing in that direction, I just think we’re seeing more. He’s been in Mystic Falls long enough that maybe he’s letting more people in that he didn’t let in before.”

Zap2it has an interview with Joseph Morgan as well, but we don’t want to risk spoiling those of you who haven’t seen last night’s episode yet. Let’s just say that Joseph had some interesting comments on Klaus’s many motives!

XX We’re just a few hours away from Our Town (EP311), but the teases and hints are still rolling in. Give Me My Remote has a great interview with Julie Plec, who talks about some of the things we can expect to see in tonight’s episode. Unfortunately, anyone hoping for a glorious reconciliation between Caroline and Tyler may be disappointed, at least tonight.

Caroline and Tyler aren’t in a great place right now, and Tyler particularly is pretty much a pawn in Klaus’ game…
JP: Tyler’s not in a good place. Things are not going well for Tyler. Things are certainly not going well for Caroline and Tyler. And whether they get better, how they get better, and when they get better is to be seen.

Julie has lots more to say about the fallout from last week’s episode, READ THE REST OF THE INTERVIEW AT GIVE ME MY REMOTE.

Zap2it also spoke with Julie about tonight’s episode and Caroline’s role in it, and it doesn’t look like Caroline will be breaking the Mystic Falls ‘bummer birthday’ streak anytime soon.

“It’s the first time, I think, for her, that she’s looked at the big picture,” executive producer Julie Plec adds. “It’s kind of in tandem with the whole idea of senior year and what you’re supposed to be going through, looking ahead toward the future being wide open. She’s kind of realizing the sadness of ‘Oh, I’m always going to be 17. I’m never going to do the things I wanted to do.’”

It’s not all bad news, though! Candice Accola says that things won’t be all bad.

“There are some great girlfriend moments coming up, which I love, because last year I think everyone was so embroiled in their various love triangles that we didn’t really see that,” she says, “and I think it’s really important to have those moments.”

For more thoughts from both Candice and Julie, as well as a little hope for Team Matt, READ THE REST OF THE INTERVIEW AT ZAP2IT.

Zap2It Talks Meredith, Damon & Alaric's Tragic Love Life With Torrey DeVittoLast week, a long-awaited (and much-beloved) book character finally made her TV series debut and Zap2It has a thorough and excellent interview with Vampire Diaries newcomer Torrey DeVitto, aka Dr. Meredith Fell. While Torrey cautions that there will be inevitable differences between book!Meredith and TV!Meredith, she has read the Vampire Diaries books and understands why her arrival is kind of a big deal.

Good news, Meredith fans — your favorite is in good hands, as DeVitto is, herself, a fan of the novels. “Well, when the pilot came around, I picked up the series and actually read the entire series without stopping,” she tells us. “I had just finished the ‘Twilight’ books and was so smitten with Edward, so I saw that this was vampires and I was like, ‘Great! I’ll read all of them!’”

That said, of course, she’s intentionally creating some distance between the book character and the TV writers’ reinterpretation. “I remember Meredith, but I don’t remember her completely and perfectly,” she says. “She’s very different on the show, so I didn’t really go back into the books and re-read, because I didn’t want to get too many conflicting ideas. I thought that was so cool to come on and not only be a part of the show, but also, I’m honored to be a part of something that the book’s fans are going to recognize and hopefully appreciate.”

Torrey also reflects on Dr. Fell’s involvement with Alaric “Has Bourbon, Will Mourn” Saltzman and his less-than-rosy love life (hint: his love interests turn into vampires and die), the potentially tense interaction between Meredith and Damon (YAY), coming to The Vampire Diaries three seasons in after being part of the off-screen TVD family, and her dedication to raising awareness about hospice care and Global Roots (alongside Paul Wesley). We also can’t help but wonder if the good doctor will be the one to finally restore respect for Fells amongst the Founding Families…and stuff.

Paging Dr. Fell: Why The New Deal (EP310) Was A Big DealOkay, so The New Deal (EP310) was a big deal for a whole slew of reasons (those are spoilers we can continue to suppress here for the international fans), but we know that fans of The Vampire Diaries book series had reason to be very excited about last night’s episode. After nearly two and a half seasons, a fan favorite book character finally made her debut on TV: Say hello to Dr. Meredith Fell, played by Torrey DeVitto.

If you’ve been following this website since the beginning, when we were covering the pilot’s development and production – waaaaaay back in early 2009 – you know there was a big sticking point with book series fans: Where’s Meredith? We blogged about it one, or two, or three times. In April 2009, Julie Plec acknowledged Meredith’s absence from the pilot for the first time, saying: “Be patient, Meredith fans.” And now here we are.

Zap2It has a nice write-up on Julie and Kevin Williamson finally making good on their promise to bring Meredith into the TV series fold. As is to be expected, there have been some changes made to the character in translating her from page to screen – TV!Meredith is now a Fell and is older than her book counterpart – but Julie hints that the good doctor will have a bigger role to play as we head into the rest of Season 3:

Book Meredith is unique in that she’s one character who is completely unaffected by Damon’s charms — in fact, she makes him a little bit nervous. Most of Meredith’s scenes are with Alaric and Damon, so viewers can look forward to seeing just how Damon reacts to a little romance getting in the way of his bromance. “She’s a Fell, so she’s got a point of view about how to handle the vampire business in this town,” Plec teases. We’re sure Damon will be thrilled.

We know she had a very brief appearance on last night’s episode, but how do book fans feel about finally having Meredith on their TV screens? Let us know in the comments!

Kat Graham as BonnieJean Bentley of Zap2it has an interesting interview with Kat Graham that touches on Bonnie’s relationships with everyone from Stefan to Elena to her mother. On Bonnie’s breakup with Jeremy:

“Well, I love that it’s a very human side to her. If they went kind of “all-powerful, unstoppable witch, fearless, fierce all the time,” I think it would bore people and maybe have them turn against her. So the fact that there’s still a pain there, that has kind of awakened her. It makes her human; it makes her relatable; it makes her real.”

And how about Bonnie’s mother?

“I will say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and that what would eventually bring her back into Bonnie’s life is not what you think.”

XXFor Vampire Diaries fans cannot live on promos alone (okay, maybe they can): TV Line has a slew of Vampire Diaries teases, including tidbits on Stefan, Caroline, Bonnie, Dr. Fell, and Klaus:

Question: Joseph Morgan recently mentioned that he’d like to see Klaus have a love interest on Vampire Diaries. Is this happening anytime soon? —Amy

Ausiello: Morgan is getting his wish! While Plec wouldn’t tell us if the lucky (or maybe not so lucky?) lady is someone we’ve met before, she did confirm “someone will catch Klaus’ eye very soon.”

Zap2It has their own preview of this week’s episode, The New Deal (EP310):

We’ll find out much more about siring and what it means to Tyler that Klaus is his sire — he’ll even explain the key differences between compulsion and siring. (Sort of. Let’s just say the line is a little blurry.)

And TV.com‘s Price Peterson tweeted out a The New Deal tease that may interest fans of The Vampire Diaries book series:

This week’s ep of #TVD marks the first time I’ve ever regretted not reading the books.

Make of that what you will (and speculate in the comments)!

XXHiatus drags on, but every day we’re getting closer to January 5th and the return to Mystic Falls. To help tide you over, Zap2it has some insight from Julie Plec about what’s coming up for Caroline and Tyler, why Elena and Alaric are getting worried about Jeremy, and some hints about Bonnie’s as-yet-unseen mom.

“Tyler and Caroline have a lot to overcome,” Julie says. “Because Tyler, on his own, has a lot to overcome. It’s pretty bleak, right now, and it’s only going to start to get bleaker before it gets better. “

In case you missed it, Persia White has already been cast as Bonnie’s mom, and we can’t wait to see her in action when the show resumes!
