The Vampire Diaries TV Series: Candice interviews galore, Zap2It previews Matt & Caroline moment + TV Guide chats with SaraThis week it was Candice Accola’s turn to make the interview rounds. (And there should be more coming!) First up, IGN‘s Eric Goldman chats with Candice about one of the show’s unexpected friendships.

IGN: We saw a little bit in that very episode of the dynamic between Stefan and Caroline again, who has become a friend and mentor to her in a way that we never could have conceived of before she became a vampire. Is that something we might see explored further?

Accola: I hope so. I really love working with Paul [Wesley] and I also think it is a really great friendship. I love how those scenes come together. I think the character of Stefan really has this kind of newfound sense of protection. I think it gives both characters really great opportunities to show their capacity for being a good friend.

TV Line‘s Meg Masters asks about another of Caroline’s relationships – her on-again, off-again romance with Matt – and wonders if it’s time for Matt to be in on Mystic Falls’ secrets.

TVLINE | Do you think Matt should be let in on Mystic Falls’ secrets? It would certainly make things easier for Caroline.
On one hand, it’s a vampire show so what fun is it if the secret is out and everyone knows about it? [Laughs] The show needs that conflict of people being in the dark. And the best part about it is the anticipation of what will happen when they do find out. I’m excited to see what the writers decide to do.

And speaking of Matt and Caroline, Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie has quite the lengthy conversation with Candice and Zach Roerig about The House Guest‘s big romantic moment – and we’ll get to hear Candice sing! (There’s also an exclusive behind-the-scene still from the ep, so be sure to check it out.)

Candice admits that the more romantic scenes with Zach came as a bit of a relief to her. “It’s a lot easier to go to work knowing that you’re going to spend the day laughing and having fun as opposed to crying and hyperventilating and sweating in a cage in an RV,” she laughs. “I’m such a romantic at heart. I love a good ‘awww’ kind of moment.”

And TV Guide‘s Robyn Ross follows up with Sara Canning on the Jenna/Alaric cliffhanger from last week’s The Dinner Party. And by “cliffhanger,” we mean Alaric’s deafening silence in response to Jenna asking him for the truth. (Ouch, right?)

Canning says her character has grown as a parental guardian and as a person making smarter choices, so she’s excited about what lies ahead:

“In the next few episodes we’re going to see something happen that is really going to rock her world and have her question if she is in such a steady and stable spot as she thought she was.”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesSeason 2 has not been entirely kind to Jenna Sommers (running into kitchen knives is soooo embarrassing, who does that?) but Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie chats with Sara Canning about Jenna’s “clueless reality.” Seems some interesting dynamics will be at play amongst the adults at tonight’s The Dinner Party. For instance, more Jenna/Elijah interaction, anyone? (Yes, please!)

The grown ups are getting together for a dinner party tonight. I’m sure that’ll go smoothly.
It’s fun to have all the adults in one room. The cool thing about tonight’s episode, for me, is that we get to see Jenna hanging out with Elijah a lot. We get to see that interaction, and knowing that there’s been a lot of distrust with Alaric, we’ll kind of watch them meander around in that situation. There’s a hidden motive at the dinner party, but of course Jenna’s in her clueless reality, so the dinner party is going to mean many different things to everybody that is there. Everyone is at that party for a different reason.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThere’s been a steady debate since we posted episode stills from The House Guest (EP216) yesterday and Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie seems to be providing the answer to the “Elena or Katherine” question. (Or is she…?) She also chats with Nina Dobrev about the difficulties in playing an entombed Katherine.

“Katherine-slash-I have been dirty and dusty for a very long time,” she laughs. “The weird thing is having to put dirt in your hair and tease your hair and make it look dirty after you’ve just washed it, for all those scenes.”

You’d think that as the star of a CW show, Dobrev would get the glam treatment every day at work, but that’s not the case as long as Katherine’s below ground. “Katherine’s getting progressively dirtier and dirtier,” Dobrev says.

We’ll be catching up on some news over the next few days. First up, Zimbio caught up with Sara Canning to talk about her various roles throughout her career, living and working in Atlanta, and working with her fellow castmates.

Zimbio: What is your typical day like filming on Vampire Diaries?
Sara: Getting up really early. I do a vocal warm-up in my car. Then I show up to set and go into hair and makeup; there’s anywhere from one to six of us in there at any time. The cast are my really great friends but also great people to watch work. We all jive together really well. Last week I shot a scene with six other cast members, it was all of us, for one day, in one room, shooting a bunch of scenes. And we just looked at each other and were like, ‘How good do we have it?’

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesSteven R. McQueen made the interview rounds today and he’s talking Jeremy/Bonnie (of course), Uncle John, Klaus, Tyler, and how he’d like Jeremy to get further and further into the Mystic Falls supernatural mix.

Zap2It: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen on Uncle John’s plan for Jeremy, plus the Bonnie romance heats up

McQueen has his fingers crossed that Bonnie and Elena won’t be put in the situation where one of them must sacrifice their life for the other. “It’s definitely a possibility, but I don’t think Jeremy could handle that,” he says. “I think, come what may, Jeremy would sacrifice himself before he’d let anything hurt Bonnie or Elena.”

You hear that, Luka (Bryton James)? If you try to mess with Bonnie any more, Jeremy’s coming for you. “Damn right!” McQueen says. “Damn right. Nobody’s messing with Jeremy’s girl. He’s pretty defensive with Luka right now, but we can expect to see things even out a little bit with them coming up.”

Entertainment Weekly: ‘Vampire Diaries’ scoop: Star Steven R. McQueen says ‘Things start to heat up’ with Jeremy and Bonnie this week

Has he ever asked the writers why Jeremy’s sister, Elena, who we’re told needs to be sacrificed by a wolf or vampire to break a curse, can’t just wear the ring he’s currently sporting that keeps its human bearer from dying a supernatural death? “I haven’t asked it, just because I want to keep wearing it. [Elena's sibling] is a four-year-old girl named Margaret in the books,” he says, “and that’s not exactly job security on my side. [In a pleading voice] I’m hoping to keep that ring on my finger.”

E!Online: The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen Dishes on Jeremy and Bonnie—and Kicking Klaus’ Ass

“Klaus is the most powerful vampire there is. He has power over every other vampire and he can compel every vampire,” Steven says. “He’s the guy with all the power. And his intentions aren’t all that great. He’s trying to sacrifice someone in my family and I don’t want that to happen. We’re trying to do everything we can to stop it.”

BuddyTV: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Steven R. McQueen: ‘I’ve Got a Couple of Loose Screws Upstairs’

From our fans on Twitter, @mus1c_ wants to know: Which other character from the show would you like to see Jeremy share more scenes with?
Steven R. McQueen: Any of them! I would love to see Jeremy start training in the vampire hunting ways a little more, maybe with Alaric, possibly with Uncle John. Even though that’s a bit of a complicated relationship, just to start accepting his family responsibility and start getting involved with the whole vampire hunting thing.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWell, Vampire Diaries is definitely back. I think this marks the 11th blog post today. (I dunno. Math is hard.) Over at Collider, Kevin Williamson gives vague hints about the Season 2 finale game plan (“At the end of the season, everyone won’t be standing, I’m sad to say”), gives his definition of a game-changer, and discusses this season’s primary story lines, including Tyler, Caroline, and doppelgangers:

Is the doppleganger storyline something that’s gone on longer than you thought it would? How much longer will that storyline go?
WILLIAMSON: We always envisioned it to be the season finale and the big sacrifice. We’re going to lead to it. But, we may get to it a little sooner ‘cause there’s so many parts of it and there’s also what happens after. We’re not quite sure where to end the season, with regard to the doppleganger, because there are three or four different endings of it, and beginnings. We’ve already been mapping out next season because we’re pretty sure we’re going to be around, and so we want to make sure we have a place to go with it and that we know where the starting point is.

Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie has another part of her video chat with Ian Somerhalder from this past weekend. This time he discusses Damon’s feelings for Elena and how the elder Salvatore brother is going to at least attempt to get back to business as usual. Key word: attempt.

Somerhalder says we’re likely to see Damon attempt to be more closed off, like he was when we first met him in the first season. “He is trying to be flippant, he is trying to be as deflective as he can while enjoying himself, and seducing women and compelling journalists and getting his way, kind of being a dick in many ways,” he says. In other words, he’s trying to be someone Elena doesn’t necessarily want to be around.

And TVLine has more from the uber-popular Michael Trevino. (Read the entire interview at TVLine.)

“At this point, we’ve shot three episodes that haven’t aired and within those three episodes, Tyler is investigating Mason’s disappearance and finds out a lot of things that he didn’t know before,” he tells us. “A little more information is given to Tyler by Jules, who’s coming off as bad, but I believe her intentions for Tyler are good. Jules gradually talks to Tyler more, and at first he’s not very receptive towards her, but you can see that she means well and all she’s trying to do is protect [him].”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesZap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie has posted another Vampire Diaries set video from her chat with Katerina Graham and this time Kat discusses Bonnie’s relationships with other characters on the show, including her feelings for Jeremy and Luka, and the witch’s shaky alliance with Damon.

The thread of trust between the two characters could be easily broken with one wrong move. “If Damon does something stupid, Bonnie will be back standing strong, holding her own, protecting the town as Bonnie does,” Kat says. We have it on pretty good authority that Damon won’t be playing Mr. Nice Vampire for much longer, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see another showdown between the two characters in upcoming episodes.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAs we countdown to The Descent on January 27th, Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie is holding to her promise of new Vampire Diaries goodies. She kicked things off last night with another cast video interview from her latest set visit, this time with Steven R. McQueen. Steven discusses Jeremy’s involvement in Mystic Falls’ supernatural shenanigans, how being “in” on town secrets could benefit his relationship with Elena, his new level of confidence, and Bonnie.

The pairing of Jeremy and Bonnie (Kat Graham) was as surprising to McQueen as it was to all of the fans. “I never expected Jeremy and Bonnie!” he admits. “”Our characters somehow have this great chemistry which has been awesome, and it’s fun, definitely, adding the Luka character to the mix. I’m feeling a little personal competition for Bonnie’s affection. It definitely ups the stakes and makes Jeremy want to fight for Bonnie’s affection that much more.”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesPopWrap‘s Jarett Wieselman rings Kevin Williamson up for a post-mid-season finale wrap-up and a range of topics are discussed, including the vision behind Tyler’s tranformation and where Tyler goes from here, Caroline’s determination to stick it out with Tyler and the fan response to her character this season, who we’re definitely seeing again and who we may not see again, just how worried we should be about what a werewolf bite can do to a vampire, and the surprise of Katherine as a character.

PW: I remember you once said that you love when, in the writing process, a character surprises you. Has that happened at all this year?
Kevin: The one thing that surprised me is Katherine. I always expected her to play into the show in little pieces, little scenes here and there – I didn’t expect her to drive an entire story with her at the center of it. And that’s because of Nina [Dobrev] being so good. Her performance is what made us go there. It’s just too delicious. And I don’t think I would have gone into Bulgaria, with a flashback of her giving birth, unless I really felt like she was a character I wanted to explore.

Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie brings us an on-set interview with Ian Somerhalder and she just so happened to get a sneak peek at the brand-spankin’ new sets for Damon’s bedroom/bathroom. (A lot of you were very excited about this when writer Caroline Dries dropped that they were being built during the Vampire Diaries Writers’ Room Live Tweet.) Ian discusses shooting in his birthday suit (funny, because it was his birthday), the launch of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation birthday project, Damon’s snazzy new bedroom, Stefan’s trust in Damon, and the “uphill battle” between Damon and Elena.

Brotherly love trumps girlfriend-stealing, even for Damon Salvatore. Over the last season and a half, Damon has come to the rather reluctant conclusion that he needs his brother. “I think that without him, it poses a major problem. Yes, of course he doesn’t have Stefan to contend with for Elena, but from my perspective he’s done so much sh** to Elena that it’s going to be a very uphill battle with that. Right now, it’s about protecting her.”

The Futon Critic‘s Jim Halterman has more from his interviews with Julie Plec, Michael Trevino, and Candice Accola.

Jim Halterman: Let’s talk about some of the other characters. Elena (Nina Dobrev) is definitely not the damsel in distress anymore. Was that a conscious effort that you wanted to see this year?
Julie Plec: Absolutely. We always want our female characters to have a point of view and be strong but by definition putting the ingenue in jeopardy is a part of the show so how you sort of make her really strong-willed and fierce and stand up for herself… we saw that a lot last season but this season she’s not necessarily letting other people make decisions for her anymore and it’s part of her growth and the way she is taking back her life, which has spun out of control. It’s nice to see Elena take a stand.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesZap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie has been on the Vampire Diaries set this week and she had a chance to discuss tonight’s episode, By the Light of the Moon, with Michael Trevino, Candice Accola, and Ian Somerhalder. Each of them has wonderful insight into everything from filming the scene to the Mystic Falls politics that lay beyond Tyler’s werewolf transformation. (Werewolves and vampires don’t exactly get along, remember? And Tyler is 2-2 on relatives killed by vampires.) But first up, Julie Plec explains why that “controversial” promo is misleading:

There is one thing that everyone from Michael Trevino’s co-stars to showrunners Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec agreed on unanimously: this is Trevino’s episode to shine, and it’s a story that’s been well-earned.

“Though the promos have focused heavily on the ‘triangle’ drama, honestly the episode really belongs to Michael Trevino, Tyler, as we watch him go through the most harrowing experience of his life,” Plec says, referring to the CW’s episode trailer, which may not do the actual plot of the episode much justice.
