Ah, CW, careful, you’re really spoiling us with Vampire Diaries goodies. ;) Second webclip for “162 Candles”, Stefan and Elena talk about Lexi, and have a heart to heart.

I hope we will get another sneak peak, this time with Damon. I’m not a huge fan of Stefan/Elena.

Love Stefan/Elena relationship and I hope it never ends.

  • Bobby

    I’m really confused.

So in Haunted, we learn that Elena wants to be with Stephan (near the end, she doesn’t want her memory erased b/c of the way she feels for him is what I understood), and all I’m seeing in these webclips is either Elena pushing him away (i.e. the police office clip), or Stephan pushing her away (the clip where shes sorta begging him to talk to her). WTF? They can’t have it both ways.

BTW, one of the writers or producers or someone from the show mentioned in an interview that Viki was used to grow Elena’s brother’s character. There is NO growth when a character has no suffering, and seeing as he now has no memories of Viki dieing there’s no growth. The only person I can see grow from this is Elena and her “rationale” towards vampires, but she’s already just as precautions as any other infatuated girl fallen for a vampire (*cough*bella*cough*) and rationale is turning into reckless.

You can love someone but recognise that being with them isn’t necessarily the right thing to do. Elena is basically saying that her feelings are important to her, and she doesn’t want to lose them, but for now being with Stefan isn’t something she can cope with.

As for Jeremy, he grew as a character before she died (such as realising that drugs weren’t actually something he wanted to keep doing), and he still has memory of that. I also think that this isn’t the end of Jeremy’s memories, and that something is going to happen down the line to make him start remembering, giving him the chance to develop more, and to set another storyline in motion.

  • Bobby

Ah, I overlooked Jeremy’s growth before Viki’s death. Noted. Still, Haunted did nothing to further grow his character. It would have panned out the same if he didn’t partake in the whole Viki fiasco this episode and she just disappeared.

I’m having a hard time figuring out what Haunted did to the main characters, it’s feeling more and more like a filla episode.

Elena was already angry and disgusted with Damien and his habits, she’s already noted that she doesn’t want to be apart of Stefans’ world (for now). We’ve already seen Mat stick up for and watch over Viki (thus we know that he’s her protector, always looking out for her). Elena’s other friends contributed very little. Bonnie has warmed up to her grandma, but that was foreshadowed in the previous episode when she went to her grandma for help.

Viki and her subplot contributed nothing to the main storyline (which I suspect is about the town council finding and killing the vampires in mystic falls + the inevitable love between Elena and one of the brothers) and contributed nothing to anyone’s character development, apart from Jeremy questioning his drug addiction ways in the previous episode.

Specifically, this episode brought what to the table? (Damien has remorse? Unlikely, and his good deed is probably the product of his heartbreak with a woman who looks like Elena-it’s pure speculation, but I’d buy it. The pendant? It burns when a witch has it in their possession. Damien learning the council knows nothing? Not much of a development when one of the council members was using a compass to find a vampire. Uhhh, I’m out…)

All fair points. I’ve got issues with this episode myself, just haven’t gotten around to posting yet (and may not, because I suspect Vee will eventually cover it all before me). Would you do us a favour and post your thoughts over in the forums, please? It’s the kind of detailed stuff that’s better over there because it’s easier to discuss.

Yes, the clip makes Elena look a little “waffley,” but I agree with what Red said… As for growth, how can Elena not be changed forever after all she witnessed in Haunted? Matt and Jeremy have both lost Vicki… doesn’t matter how… she’s gone, a sister and a first love. That changes people.

Forgetting everything else, I want to address what Bobby said about the founders council. Before Haunted, Damon knew that Logan Fell had the compass and knew about vampires. That’s it. Now Damon knows, or at least suspects that the Founders Council has something to do with some people in town knowing about vampires. That gives him a list of people to start with. He knows that they know about vervain. He knows that they don’t know that lapis charms can protect vampires from sunlight. So, it seems to me, the information Damon got from Mrs. Lockwood is huge. Also, it gives Damon a jumping off point for acquiring more information. Seriously, Mayor and Mrs. Lockwood talking about this in a public place turned out to be a major blunder on their part. I absolutely expect it to come back to bite them (maybe literally).

  • Bobby

It seems a waste of an episode just for that! It is true, talking about vampires in a public place was reckless. One imagines that the council would have passed on better knowledge to the preceeding council, or kept something in writing.

Note that Mrs Lockwood was tipsy.

  • Bobby

I’ve gone over this in the forums, but Jeremy wouldn’t be so hugely affected by the events in Haunted. He was cleared of his memories of her death, he was told not to worry about her, and not to go looking for her, and it’s all for the best. No character building when you’re fine (lack of a better word) with her leaving.

I wouldn’t call Matt a main character. Assuming he’s dealt with her disappearances before (he mentions that she’s on a drug spree) he’ll get worried, but not because he thinks she’s dead (it would cross his mind because Matt is the worrying type, but he’s optimistic and he won’t dwindle on that thought for long -ie. the whole “ill be waiting for you if you need me” attitude towards Elena after she dumps him is proof of that optimism). Matt and Vicky seem to be living on their own, and they’re young adults. She’s also a very impulsive person, the drugs have shaped her that way. What’s not to say she just left town? Matt knows about Viky’s addiction so he could righteously come to the same conclusion.

I get that you are into this show (as we all are) hence you are being critical. But what you need to remember is that all things have their time and place, and although this episode was different than the rest, it still had its purpose and all things will come to light.

I also agree with the others that the characthers did grow from Vicki’s death and that this was for a purpose. Jeremy will be different regardless of having a memory. Elena most certainly is differeny, and Matt will worry about his sister.

I also think it showed that although Damon has his motives, he deeply cares for his brother.

Lastly, although addressing the issue of vampires in public is not a good idea on the Mayor’s part, events like this need to occur to keep the plot and make future events happen so just go with the flow and enjoy the show.
