Cosmopolitan.com has posted a new behind the scenes video of Paul Wesley and Kellan Lutz during the Fun Fearless Males 2010 photoshoot. (See the pictures.) Paul talks about hanging out with Kellan in Vancouver during Vampire Diaries pilot/New Moon filming, the vampire phenomenon, and the vampires of Vampire Diaries.

Polish magazine Tele Tydzień published a brief interview with Paul Wesley in which he discussed The Vampire Diaries and his own Polish background. A very, very big thanks to Vampire Diaries Poland for providing the scan and offering to translate! (Notice the slightly different Lost Girls still? Tele Tydzień (Poland) interview with Paul Wesley

Paul Wesley The Vampire Diaries
The life in a normal world

The threat of revenge, love and fight for the survival of relatives. There will be difficult moments in Stefan’s life.. Finally, a young actor of Polish descent becomes a teen idol in the world! The main role in the show The Vampire Diaries is a great opportunity for Paul Wesley (Pawła Wasilewskiego in Polish).

Tele Tydzień: Your character, Stefan Salvatore, is a typical vampire.
Paul: He’s a really nice guy for someone with such a future. He wants to live quiet among humans and not to do harm to anyone.

Tele Tydzień: What makes films about vampires such a great success?
Paul: These are the elements of fear and sex. The vampires are dangerous, they can easily kill someone who is in their way, but they are totally romantic and protective; formally young and attractive, but turn out to be incredibly old. They make all dreams about immorality true, but first show what is their price.

Tele Tydzień: What do fans think about the show?
Paul: People approach me often on the street and say what they think about Stefan. I get a lot of email and letters. Some people like me, other don’t… I think it’s amazing that so many people watch this show and go into the show totally emotional.

Tele Tydzień: Americans people thinks that vampires are their idea.
Paul: They think that the vampires’ home is Louisiana now, but a lot of people know that the idea is from Europeans.

Tele Tydzień: You speak Polish, although you were born in the USA.
Paul: When I was a child I spoke Polish without a trace of foreign accent, because I still talk with my parents and Polish siblings. When I went to school everything changed. I want to visit my grandparents in Warsaw and work on my Polish.

Tele Tydzień: You make your career with the name Wesley…
Paul: I reflected a very long time whether to play under my own name. I talked about this with my familly and friends, but it’s true that my own name is very hard for people from America and therefore I have a nickname. I’m proud of my roots and I’m Paweł Wasilewski.

It sorta seems they felt that he was a little ashamed of his background and that’s why he changed his last name. But a lot of actors tend to do that for similar reasons. That and to get more jobs or find a name that is just more memorable. (Kal Penn, Natalie Portman,Tom Cruise are just some of the few).

And wow, I knew he was Polish, but didn’t realized he was a child of an immigrant. Interesting article.
