Here’s another Vampire Diaries trailer for you, with more new scenes to whet your appetites, including a better shot of the vampire effects (and it looks like we have fangs on the canine teeth, for those of us who were wondering).

Update: Got a screencap of the fangs, and we do indeed have canines! Also, there’s a pretty title card at the end of the trailer.

Update 2: Thanks to Jen over at Nina-Dobrev.info for the heads up. There’s another short trailer up on the CW’s TVD Facebook, which has yet another title card. Methinks they may be experimenting.

Update 3: If you’re wondering what song is playing during the party scene, it’s “No One’s Gonna Love You” by Band of Horses.

Well, that was better. There are parts that actually appeal…

But. I really don’t like that bit where Elena has cut herself and Stefan is acting like he can’t resist the blood. Err, Stefan was never like that…so are they getting rid of his angst and changing it up to be about the blood?

And I was actually happily surprised with Ian’s badass!Damon. Woo.

  • http://ihain.livejournal.com Collie

Okay. Okay… that one was a little bit better. Could have done with less mouthbreathing Paul Wesley, but what are you gonna do? Nina Dobrev was less flat and boring than she came off in the first teaser, so I’m feeling her a bit more. Want more Somerhalder. He’s going to steal the hell out of this show; I can tell.

  • http://www.sacredgroundscomic.com Westly

I dunno about that. It was just her scent and the fact she had her head tilted just so that was making Steffy fantasize and tongue his fangs in the first book…

I wouldn’t put Stefan on the high end of self control when it comes to that…

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

Perhaps it is me reading too many Twilight reviews about how Edward can’t resist the smell of Bella that has me twitching with any signs of it in this remake. :/

  • http://www.sacredgroundscomic.com Westly

I maintain that part was stolen from TVD…

I just got through reading TVD again, and remember Stefan having his doubts about his OWN self control around Elena.

Twilight … was just… I couldn’t read it, so I don’t know. (I did see the movie though…does that count?)

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

Well, I shouldn’t comment as I haven’t read or watched it. But Stefan’s interest and attraction to Elena was never really about blood. It was about the fact that she looked like Katherine. I guess they can’t portray that easily with looks, so need to throw the blood in there. I just wish they focused more on the attraction for reasons other than the fact that Elena has scrapped herself.

  • http://www.sacredgroundscomic.com Westly

That’s true. I always thought that the Twilight guy was into the Twilight girl because she smelled like a steak…

Stefan was drawn to Elena originally because she looked like Katherine…but as time progressed the came to be drawn to her for her, with the whole tigress to a kitten thing. (lol)

I hope they cover his fascination with her in the TV show (the Katherine thing), it looks like he’s got his own diary, so that’ll be useful for normally silent introspective character dialogue!

  • Emma

Oh Hot Damn. I’m sorry, I’m just excited, I know they’ve changed a lot from TVD books, but it still looks great (to me).
I’m generally okay with changing things in the transition from book to screen, so I expect I’ll like the show even if it does digress from the books. Of course, I said that for Blood and Chocolate the movie before I saw it, then when I finally did, and saw how much they changed from the book…no, just no. Though I am listening to the B&C soundtrack right now…what can I say, I love Darkwave. :)
But anyway, I’m uber excited for the show, think it looks great, yada yada yada fan babble, etc.

  • Patty

OMFG!! My jar has literally fell onto the floor!!! WE HAVE TO SPREAD THE WORD OF THIS SHOW!! I want this show to be soo effin huge! I cannot wait until the fall!!

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

Heh, well yeah. Blood and Chocolate is so in need of being redone and true to the books. Such an awesome series! <3

  • Nilly

Oookay, THEY PRONOUNCED STEFAN’S NAME WRONG!! (I think!)
This looks like a great series, but kind of inspired by the books rather than based on them.

Ian Somerhalder is the hottest guy on the planet, I literally DID fall off my chair! And he quite reminds me of Damon, I just wish he looked more the part.. :(

  • michelle

trailer’s looking good, and well, i don’t really like the guy playing stefan but i can let that go since Ian’s doing such a great job with Damon. If only they could get him to be even more badass… Now that would be perfect..

  • Lexy

This trailer did impress me a LOT more than the last one…which was just a chopped up mess. It might have a lot to do with Wesley talking less and more action scenes.

I agree with everyone that Ian will steal the show. Which will be a good thing, since I’m liking his character portrayal more and more and Stefan’s less and less.

  • Lily

Not bad… I’m especially loving that chilling feel to it.

Cast members are just as I expected – well, sortof. I guess I should wait till I’ve watched the show. Ian Somerhalder looks really weird without his usual stubble though and that hairstyle isn’t helping. o_O

  • Lily

And thanks God the fangs are not like the True Blood fangs! The vampiric transformation is not how I pictured it when reading the books but I still like the pilot’s version.

  • http://www.vampire-diaries.net Vee

I don’t think I ever imagined any sort of “transformation” when reading the books, but I completely get the need for a visual cue to the audience. And knowing how awful it could have been (I loved Buffy, but always hated the vampire make-up), I think the effects are surprisingly subtle. And I love the fangs – they’re not too long and, as you mentioned, NOT True Blood’s fangs (hate those things).

Someone mentioned before that the forehead did something weird – I don’t see it. I think that’s just Wesley’s forehead.

  • Incanto

“Someone mentioned before that the forehead did something weird – I don’t see it. I think that’s just Wesley’s forehead.”

You have no idea how hard that just made me laugh, Vee. Far more than it should have, to be certain.

  • michelle

LOL! I didnt see that and it sure had me laughing!
Had to take a second look there and yes, i think its his forehead!

Oooh, pretty title card on this promo! I agree with your tweet — this one is better than the one on Facebook… that one’s too… minimalist trendy or something.

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Yeah, I suspect that they’re pronouncing it that way because that’s how the average American pronounces it anyway. The thread on the forums suggests that’s the case, so it makes sense.

  • http://www.vampire-diaries.net Vee

I wasn’t trying to be funny.

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Yeah, I’m digging this title card quite a bit. The rose one just seems… meh. Unrelated, generic graphic, and falls into the Twilight trap. Spooky, misty woods is far better, especially as the woods feature heavily in the books.

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Were you playing the screencap-the-fangs game, too? :D

I am so with you on the True Blood fangs. No offence to TB fans who like the fangs, but they just look tacky and cheaply done to me. Such a relief to see some nicely-sized canines. Pretty much my perfect fang.

I’m like Vee, never imagined a transformation beyond the teeth in the books. It makes it strange for me to see any transformation, so it’ll take some getting used to, but I do quite like the effect. It has a lot of impact without being too in-your-face. Like Buffy. XD

  • Incanto

Especially Nightfall. Uggghhh. We shall not speak of the treenis.

  • Incanto

That’s part of what made it so, so hilarious.

  • Stacey

Oh my God I cant wait! I feel like a teenager again! My story come to life. Only wish it was more true to the books. Missing you Meredith.

  • http://leftoverluncheonmeat.blogspot.com Glitterati

I’ve always said it as “Stef-FAHN” in my head, but “STEF-un” isn’t so bad. At least it’s not horrid like “Stef-FANN”, which is what I thought they meant when they said they Americanized it. *shudder*

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Hopefully we won’t be missing her for long. Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have both said she’s going to be in it. She’s just not in the pilot. :)

  • Stacey

That is great news! Its sad though…Eleana’s character is how I pictured Meredith to look. Oh Im to excited to care!

  • http://www.amhartnett.com A.M. Hartnett

I’m still waiting to see the characterization of Elena. One of the things I loved about her was how she was just such a little snit when it came to getting Stefan. So far I haven’t seen any of this, so I’ve got my fingers crossed.

  • Emma

Oh, for sure. That book absolutely deserves a movie worthy of the name. Could they at least have preserved *some* of the plot elements? Ugh…anyway…. So yeah, still very excited for TVD show. :D

  • Emma

I always pronounced it “Stef-fun,” not “Ste-fahn” (though the second is probably how it should be pronounced). So whatever.

  • Lily

LoL yeah, well, I wanted to have a good look at them :D

Apart from the fangs, I always imagined tVD vampires to take on a slightly feral look about their face. And if I remember correctly, Katherine’s transformation did go beyond teeth lenthening at some point… but maybe that was part shape-shifting.

And I’m relieved they’re not like Buffy vampires too. Not fond of them either! o_O

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Nice to know I’m not the only one insane enough to do it. :D I didn’t even notice Wesley’s fangs in that shot until you posted the cap.

Yeah, Katherine did some very weird transformation herself, with blood red eyes and scary long fangs and claws. I was actually wary about calling it a shape-shifting thing, because it really did seem like it was in response to an extreme emotional reaction, like an expression of her anger and not an actual conscious decision to change. All other shape shifting in the book has required conscious decisions to do so, as well as some presence of mind to be able to cope with holding it. So yeah, I think there’s definitely some basis in the books for some vamping out, likely related to age and Power, but it’s there. :D

I have my reservations about the WHOLE thing….this series is actually my all time FAVORITE. No contest.

This is not to say I don’t like the actors because I do actually like most of them a lot. I’ve seen at least one movie or show that each returning actor was in and enjoyed it.

    Moving on.

I’ve read it at least 7 times. My first concern is appearances. Stefan was drawn to Elena because of how much she reminded him of Katherine. And yet, in my honest opinion, they didn’t pull it off. First of all, Elena is blond. Not a brunette. She has blue eyes. Not brown.

Basically, APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING in this series. ESPECIALLY because it’s how it ALL starts!

But, I’ll stop there. I’m willing to give the series a chance. BUT if the pilot isn’t even close…I’m not gonna waste my time.

  • Chasity

Why isnt Elena blonde with deep blue eyes and Steffan with piercing green eyes. I think they could have picked actors that looked more like the characters from the book, still am looking foward and excited for the series

  • http://myspace.com Kasi

i really can not wait for TVD. The books are great and there is 6 and i have read all of them and they are fantastic and they almost measure up to Twilight for me. the people are good actors and i can not wait to see what they can do with the charaters. the trailers are cool and they make me want to watch the show more and more. I can not wait for fall to come.

  • erica

I dont understand this series at all why make it into a tv show if they dont follow the books this is retarded i hate that tv shows and movies just ruin the unique qualities and originality of books> ELENA IS BLOND HELLO!!!! THE WHOLE THING ABOUT ELENA IS THAT SHE REMINDS DAMON AND STEFAN OF KATHERINE!!! and also who the heck did they pick to be bonnie?! bonnie is a tiny red headed girl. so lame i am not watching this tv series they just diminish the whole Vampire Diaries.
