I’m going to be uber-lame and comment on my own post here, BUT: This is possibly the most excited I’ve been about anything TVD-related in ages. I don’t think I realized how disappointed I was about the lack of Meredith until this very moment. But now? Yep, I am feeling genuinely excited.

I’m much the same. Really wonderful news (as long as Meredith actually remains MEREDITH). Especially as I’ve been thinking about things and talking on the forums, you realise all these tiny things in the book that hang on other bits and pieces).

Yeeeeah I’m not convinced. Sorry. This is cause for further groaning over here, because there may well be *a character* possibly named Meredith who shows up later, but I don’t know that she’ll be even remotely recognizable as TVD Meredith. None of the other characters have been so far, so fuck that.

They COULD win me over with massive recasts and rewrites before the series actually goes to air (I’d even settle for juggling the cast around more, honestly… cast Nina as Meredith, dye Katerina’s hair auburn and cast her as a darker-skinned Caroline, cast Candice as Bonnie, cast Paul Wesley as Tyler, cast Trevino as Stefan although I’d prefer someone new altogether… and get a new damn Elena, and preferably minimize or get rid of Jeremy altogether because frankly it smells of True Blood plagiarism even more than the Bonnie casting does – sorry Katerina and Steve, it’s not your faults), but right now… meh.

It would make far more sense to bring Meredith now and CAROLINE, VICKIE AND TYLER later once you’ve set it up as “this is a tiny little town where nothing bizarre ever happens HEY WHO’S THAT HOT ITALIAN [except, you know, that's already been completely screwed up and rewritten to ALSO look like a True Blood ripoff] GUY?” and it makes no sense to do it all ass-backwards like the pilot currently is. Julie and Kevin are the ones who CRAMMED all of these characters into the pilot for no apparent reason except to rush through the entire first book in the first place, so you’ll understand why I’m not inclined to be sympathetic to their plight of being unable to fit Meredith in too. I don’t get why you’d want to RUSH through the story build-up when the book story is so short to begin with, unless their attitude is one of “fuck the books, let’s just cram them into as few episodes as possible so we can make shit up from scratch sooner.”

So, sorry guys, I’m really not aboard the party train here. I’d be happy to see a Meredith that strongly resembled book Meredith, but given the current casting and characterization trends on this show, she’ll probably be a nordic blonde political activist or something, and I’d rather have Meredith not exist than see her put through that kind of wringer.

i completly agree with INCANTO! They have fucked this up so bad i am almost dreading it! If they were going to change everything that was in the books(including the extremely descriptive character profiles!!!!) I mean really elena not a blond! Scoff No merideth Scoff!! Bonnie not a decendent of the druids with firey red curls! Double Scoff!!! They Should just change the Name of the Damn Show cause its at this point where its BLASPHEMY!!!!

I wouldn’t underestimate how many OLD fans are watching the show. These books have been around quite a while. I’d say the people that make this series the most popular will be the die hard old readers. Lose them and maybe the show will flop. There’s a chemistry to these series that make the novels popular through the generations. LJ Smith’s talent already proved the chemistry right here (not to mention her numerous OTHER series), so why change it? Maybe because the TV/movie guys aren’t concerned about longevity and only want a 1 hit/season wonder.

I wonder how many people who love Vampire Diaries happen to hate Dawson’s Creek & Scream? LOL… Just saying! (Talking about Kevin’s stuff)

I am looking forward to seeing this show. I was totally devastated when MOONLIGHT was canceled (CBS needs a new boss after this mistake) because it was the best of the best Vampire show. Since then, I have purchase TWILIGHT, INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, BLOOD TIES, KINDRED THE EBRACED, TRUE BLOOD and MOONLIGHT (which I watch over and over again) to get my fix since the day I fell in love with the “good” Vampire series in Moonlight, but nothing comes close to MOONLIGHT. I hope that VAMPIRE DIARIES does the trick. I hope that Vampire Diaries is not totally gothic. Anyway, in September I will be a viewer of this new episode.

So I recently started reading the series of books because I had read the twilight series about 3 times and I was looking for something new, anyways I’m not quite done with the vampire diaries book series but I am definitely hooked. I already knew about the upcoming show before I started reading but I had only seen the preview once a while before I started reading.

Let me just say when I got online this morning to watch the previews again, I was VERY disappointed.
How can you just change the characters sooo much?? I mean Stefan and Damon are ok but Elena without the blonde hair and bonnie not being a little spunky red head with ringlets? IDK I guess when you think about it its just looks but it was such a part of their character. And why the addition of a brother for Elena, I mean wheres margaret??
Also I was wondering where Meredith was the whole time I was watching the previews. How can you have these strong 3 friends of Elena, Bonnie, and Meredith when they seem not to think she’s important enough to have in the pilot??
I used to watch Dawson’s Creek and I loved the scream movies But I just don’t know about this, don’t get me wrong I will still watch it out of curiosity but I’m not expecting to love it as much as I thought I would, at least it seems I’m not the only one to feel this way.

Well, i would wait for that day, Meredith will appear but one thing why Alaric Saltzman became a Vampire?

To be honest i prefer all of the changes except meredith.

It makes more sense for elena to have a little brother and for matt and vikki as brother and sister. That way the characters are less random and they won’t have to have Dick.

Also, although i liked them being italian, it is less random to have stefan and damon come from mystic falls.

BTW i prefer the name mystic falls than fell’s church, it makes more sense.

Finally i prefer the elena on tv, i mean a blonde, its a little bit too true blood for me.

But what i want to know is why at the end of series 1 is elena going to find out her parent aren’t her parents?!

On the International Movie Database website, if you search Katie Cassidy, best known from Supernatural, it says she is playing Meredith in season 2.

I’ve really lost hope that they’ll ever put meredith in :( she was my favotrie character and even though the show is amazing i think with her missing it could never live up to the books. But it dosen’t seem like they care because they’ve compelted moved away from the books.
But i guess i’ll just have to cross my fingers that season 3 will have meredith it:)

And we also got a more recent confirmation of Meredith’s arrival onto the show. In one of the interviews Candice Accola does with Kevin Williamson, which you can find on the CW website (it was a car company sponsored thing), he says that indeed Meredith will eventually join the show, they just aren’t sure how they’re going to introduce her into it.
