There are a couple of clips from next week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries, “You’re Undead to Me”, on the cwgossip YouTube channel. The first is Caroline-centric with a splash of Damon, and the second is of Elena and Matt discussing Stefan, and Stefan’s being recognised by an old man.

In my humble opinion the weak point on the show are Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev. They are not charismatic, he is not hot and she is so uninteresting. They should have chosen another actors.

Valerie: In my not humble opinion, Paul Wesley matches Stefan perfectly because of what you just said. Nina Dobrev is a very far cry from Elena, and Katerina Graham is a much worse representation of Bonnie.

If those two actresses were capable of thinking past their ignorance and realized they aren’t right for their roles, this show could be ten times better.

Disagree. Granted, Nina and Katerina are not canonical portrayals of the Elena and Bonnie of the books. It took me a while to get over that. But we’ve clearly seen that the show is already starting to diverge from the novels in significant ways, and we’re only 4 or 5 episodes in. Until their ‘series’ characters are more fleshed out, and the cast & writers get a chance to really settle into the pace of the show, I feel it’s premature to state how well the actresses (or actors, for that matter) suit their roles. (See also: 1st season of Buffy.)

That said, I think they are doing a fine job so far and am interested to see how they will carry out their story lines as the series continues.

Not that Glitterati will get this response, since the “reply” button doesn’t want to work and I have to get a new comment, but it’s time to change that subject:

This show is absolutely the most horribly contrived excuse to write off a perky Irish girl as a moping emo girl (Bonnie), a strong blonde as a cowardly nagging brunette (Elena), a four year old girl as a drug-addicted male emo teenager (Jeremy), and a five-century year old guy who embodies the very essence of piety as one and a half century year old stalking homicidal maniac who shanks girls with pointy sticks (Stefan).

Diverging in significant ways? The show is complete blasphemy in comparison to the books. Well, that is if Ian Somerhalder wasn’t part of it. He makes it at least watchable. (as I grit my teeth in the process)
