    …huh.

  • Chalcedony

Wow…the preview actually seems close to the book, even though the script proved otherwise.

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

You really think so? I thought it was even more unlike the book than what I was hoping.

  • Victoria

you know….even though it isn’t following the book that closely…the Stefan/Damon arguement brought back my original giddiness. I think it is the whole OMG it’s Damon!!!! fangirl screaming in my brain…

  • Claudia

I loved it ,I know its not following the book word for word, We just have to give ti a chance the argument between Stefan and Damon was good, I’m so Team Damon, He is just my type…

  • http://tooimpurenangel.livejournal.com Sarah

I really liked the Stefan/Damon scene. Is it just like me or does the guy playing Stefan look kind of like David Boreanaz in the crowd scene. I hate to discriminate on the basis of looks, but I hope they do some recasting!

  • Tara

    Meh.

  • Linny

ummm wow this looks like crap. It looks like they tried really hard to be twilight. and ummm…can we talk about the acting? wow…there goes my interest.

  • http://ihain.livejournal.com Collie

It made me laugh. Like, seriously. Paul Wesley is such a mouthbreathing meathead. Everyone/thing else I can accept, and Ian Somerhalder is doing a pretty great Damon (which saves it for me), but Wesley is killing me. I keep waiting for a shot of him sitting in a recliner in his boxers with a bowl of chips on his stomach and a beer watching the game. He just doesn’t work for me as a vampire, regardless of Stefan or not. The rest of it… ‘ehhh.. I guess I can live with it.

I’m not happy about the day/time slot, though, because that means I have to watch Bones online now, instead of on TV before Supernatural. Damnit.

  • sarah_darling

This makes me really excited! I think Ian has totally nailed the part of Damon with some great nuances. I have to say I don’t really understand the Paul-haters, as I think his facial expressions really show the sensitivity and vulnerability of Stefan’s character. I’m definitely not getting a Twilight vibe, and I think this has the potential to be a really strong show.

  • Chalcedony

I was suprised to hear Katherine mentioned. That’s what made me feel like it was closer to the books that I had thought. I’m glad to know that the original last names will prevail…Salvatore!

  • Incanto

Katherine was always in the original pilot script in that scene, but since the brothers are now from the Civil War (unless they fix that too) and originally from “Mystic Falls” (ugh), and considering she’ll have to look like Dobrev unless they recast (PLEASE, CW), I doubt it’ll be anything like our Katherine or the backstory we know and love.

I’m all excited now. I’m still a little skeptical but I really think that it could have potential. I didn’t like Wesley at first, but he’s grown on me. I think he pulls of the emotional/tortured Stefan pretty well.

  • Marissa

Its not the same…I dunno how i’ll like it really.

  • Bethan

I like the vampire look, but Stefan is just wrong full stop

  • http://leftoverluncheonmeat.blogspot.com Glitterati

Collie, I could not have said this better! I was not a huge Damon fan in the series (though who can really resist Damon?) but I’m really liking Somerhalder’s portrayal of him. (And, well, his general hotness) Wesley though…. ugh. To his credit, he has that tortured look (though it might just be confusion), but it’s just. not. right. He is what I pictured Tyler to be.

  • http://leftoverluncheonmeat.blogspot.com Glitterati

Vee, thanks so much for this, it really made my week. Despite all my misgivings about the casting and the network messing with the storyline, I know that I’ll watch a couple episodes no matter what, just to see what it’s like (assuming it’ll air in Canada!).

I think Dobrev is competent, and I quite like her voice, but she is off as Elena. Too melancholy and penchant — I agree with others that she’d make a great Meredith. I always got a sense of bright brittleness from Elena that is missing here. Plus, I think Dobrev’s face is too kind to be able to pull off Elena’s ‘queen bee’ manipulative moments (but who knows, maybe they’ve taken that aspect of her out altogether).

Still, this clip made me tingly. :) I’d watch it just to see what else Somerhalder is going to do! If nothing else, I hope this series reignites interest in the LJ Smith novels (which I still read sometimes!).

  • kat

    i like it.

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

I wouldn’t say he has nailed the part, but Ian is doing some good things with the bad script he has been given.

He’s still far away from the Damon in the books, but he’s the best thing in the show so far :/

  • http://ihain.livejournal.com Collie

Tyler, definitely. Or I even could have seen him as Matt. He has that ‘jock’ look going for him. ;D And to be honest? I don’t see him looking so much tortured as he comes off as scared or.. constipated to me. Haha. Sadly, it just looks too forced for Wesley. He seems to be really fighting the role. It just doesn’t suit him. I’d rather not watch him struggle with Stefan.

  • Shadowkiss13

As I’m currently at work I can’t hear a thing.
But have to say despite my reservations it looks somewhat decent and if it comes over to the UK I’m going to watch it to see what it’s like.
Have to say that Damon looks incredible and I can feel the hairs standing up on the back of my neck already!

  • idolatrie

I’m…not unimpressed by this clip. I think Damon is brilliant – there’s something very sharp and well, alive, about him, all prickly and petulant, which was the character I fell in love with in the books. Stefan, on the other hand, left me cold (which hey, same as the books, come to think of it!), but like many other comments above, the actor just didn’t fit with the mental image I had of vulnerability and aching beauty. Instead, we have someone who looks like he could actually win a fight, lol.

Elena is nothing like the book Elena, but the new take on the character seems interesting and actually like a pretty smart update on the original characterisation. The Elena of the books would probably have seemed too much like Blair Waldorf Does Vampires or something. She seems very…alone though, and one of the things I loved in the books was the depth of friendship between Elena, Meredith and Bonnie. I really hope the show retains some of that, instead of making it Elena-with-the-boys 24/7. I also find myself looking and hoping for the Stefan and Matt friendship angle, because again, that was one of the highlights of the books. Fingers crossed for that!

So yeah, basically, not unimpressed. Massive props to Damon’s characterisation though.

OMG! i cant bliv that theres a show…. i loved thos books. I will watch all the shows Damon is very hottttttttttt……………
all my friends thinks hes hottttttt i love u…..

  • Lexy

I cannot agree more. Ian is the hottness. He’s making the role fun and witty. Wesley comes off as an Angel-knockoff, without the good looks and a constipated look of someone trying way too hard. I am not liking his role. If that is how the lead role is going to be portrayed, i hope they go way off the book series and have Elena hook up with Damon.

  • http://leftoverluncheonmeat.blogspot.com Glitterati

LOL at constipated & mouth-breather (from your other comment)! I think it’s the Paleolithic forehead, which also explains resemblance to David Boreanaz (see also: Michael Bublé and George of the Jungle).

  • Yasmin_daniels

If I watch this show it’ll only be the episodes that include Damon

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

I suspect that may be all of them. ;)

  • http://www.salishna.net/damon Adia

Hrm, not sure why you replied to my post. My “huh” wasn’t exactly as positive as your take is.

  • http://www.redster.org.uk/ Red

Suspect it was an accidental click of the reply button thinking it was a reply to the post.

  • Danelle

Wow, first I’ve heard of a series! I used to love the books as a teen, but…I’m not too impressed with the teaser here. This is all I’ve seen so far, and it looks moody and juvenile. I guess I shouldn’t expect more, it is a teen book series.

I don’t like how Stefan looks, too “good” as in goody goody. Almost like the guy next door. Damon is what I’d imagine Stefan to be, but not nearly as dangerous looking as I’d imagined. Wasn’t Elena a blonde? Was she really that depressing at the beginning of the books?

I must be getting too old for for the fandom. Not angsty enough for it.

  • Amber

Disappointed with all casting besides Damon…

  • Corrina

Does anybody else notice that elena is supposed to be blonde, not brunette? and who is vicky?

  • http://www.vampire-diaries.net/ Red

Vickie Bennett, she was Dick’s girlfriend in the books and attacked in The Awakening, one of the first vampire victims in town. She’s been made into Matt’s sister in the TV series, but she’s still getting attacked.

  • clairavance

I have no patience. I can’t wait for the actual show to air on TV. Which is why I’ve watched these trailers so many times, I know it off by heart. Pathetic, I know, especially since I claim to not be all that excited about the show at all. I guess I’m more excited than I’ll admit to myself.
Since this is probably the fiftieth time I watched a trailer for VD – is it normal to still laugh when Stefan hits the ground? LOL…

  • http://www.twitter.com/ChelsIsTheName Chelsea

Omg I love it! I want more x)

  • alex lee

hmm…I don’t particularly like it. It doesn’t seem right. I also don’t like how Elaina isn’t blond like the book. You would think that they would keep at least that right…It’s like ‘just put a wig on that girl!’

  • http://Myspace.com/buddy424xoxo April

The only thing that seems to be right is Damon.
    He’s perfect for the role.
    Everything else is absolutely horrible.

And I am usually VERY optimistic about things.

  • http://Myspace.com/buddy424xoxo April

Vickie, Matt’s sister, you gotta be shitting me.
    What the F man!

  • http://myspace.com Kasi

I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE SHOW. The casting is perfect for me and EVERYONE WHO IS HATING ON PAUL IS BEING CHILDISH. He is a great actor and so freaking hot and he is 27 and he can totally go for an 17 year old. I like the cadting and trailers and sneak peaks make me want to watch the show even more. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR FALL.

  • sandy

i havent read the books, so im seeing this with fresh eyes.
    well, what can i say?
the acting (especially from stefan(?)) seems to be too forced and unnatural. it also bugs me that the two vampires look WAAYY to old to pass as high school students. the voice over way cheesy and the dialogue cliche and cheesy. also, the stefan vampire guy seemed to be overly broody and melodramatic. like, i think that we are meant to like him because he is the ‘good’ vampire, but he doesnt come across as likeable or affable.
that clip didn’t really pique my interest or make me want to watch it…too teeny-boppery, cliched and cheesy with bad wooden acting.
