@tvdnews It literally baffles me that the ratings arn’t higher!

Last nights episode will bring viewers back. That was a GREAT EPISODE. I think people thought that since Stefan was in the tomb that he would betray Elena. Thankfully he didn’t. Love them together.

Oh I live in Europe and God do I wish I could support the show by watching it. But I can’t. And that sucks. But what’s the average rating for series in US?

What a great episode. I did not have much hope for it but I was PLEASANTLY suprised. The regular stuff took a back seat for a while and let Tyler shine. OMG, big applause to Michael Trevino, what an excellent job he did. EXCELLENT! I really enjoyed the whole Tyler/Caroline thing, her staying for support. Still trying to absorb it all, but I knew Stefan would not betray Elena. Is my hearing off or when Elena first tried to get out of the house to find that she was trapped, when Bonnie said that “It is for your own good, Nina.” She said Nina right? I keep watching it and all I hear is Nina not Elena.

Perhaps the lack of Damon in the promo was the reason? I know he’s hugely popular. The 30 second promo was all about Stefan and it maybe didn’t interest viewers. Also they didn’t release any other webclips for this episode. I really hope after yesterday’s lackluster episode, viewers will not tune out. I see a lot of discontent online.  (Quote)

same here :( I’m hoping they come up with some enticing (and not *misleading*) promos for the second half of the season because I see quite a bit of negativity after last nights episode. IMHO, I didn’t find it atrocious :S yes, perhaos it didn’t have the “oomph” one would have expected from TVD’s mid-season finale, but quite a bit was revelaed with regards to Elijah and his motives and we have a whole new werewolf angle that’s bound to stir up some trouble.

I actually find the overwhelming negativity a little upsetting. Of course, eveyone is entitled to their opinion and if you didn’t like it you didn’t like it, but the show has been delivering amazing material non-stop for one-and-a-half seasons and to have people say they won’t be watching anymore, etc over one lackluster episode that wasn’t without it’s golden moments is a bit disheartening IMHO.

@Red I meant no other promos or webclips were released for “By the Light of the Moon” other than the one 30 second promo.

I have been disappointed all season, not just with this one episode. I’ve only liked really one of the episodes so far (Masquerade). I knew they were going to push the werewolf storyline (not my forte), but I didn’t think it would be at the expense of the other characters. Everyone’s either been terribly underutilized (Matt, Jenna, Alaric), or worse poorly written for, and out of character (Stefan, Damon particularly). It’s probably a good thing there isn’t a Nielsen viewer’s diary in my house, which is what they base their ratings on. I think that’s a poor system of rating a show anyway. Basically, it’s a mere 1000 households with television sets that dictate randomly which series stay on the air. My taste in programs are often very different than theirs. Whichever percentage of those 1000 households that have Nielsen diaries to track their viewership in is supposedly representative of the millions in this country that actually watch TV. It’s very skewed. I had a friend that was chosen as a Nielsen viewer about 10 years ago and she’d vote for her favorite shows in her diary whether she actually was watching or not. It’s not a very efficient system overall. It is a thing of extrapolating and estimations. No one really know how many TVs are really tuned in to any program on any night.

it was so cruel & selfish of stefan letting the oldest vampire to keep katherine against her will in the tomb the spell was broken so katherine could of been freed but the dumb oldest vampire compeled katherine with his black eyes for her to stay in the tomb he let stefan out of the tomb because he needed elena so he can kill claus the vampire before stefan was out of the tomb katherine was nice to him by telling him the truth of how to save elena from being killed !! but like elena when she lied to damon stefan lied to katherine he worse than any cruel supernatural being!! when katherine finally is able to leave the tomb she will go for revange against the salvatore brothers !.

Maybe people didn’t like last weeks episode when Stefan was put in the tomb and didn’t want to see (because of the clip) Stefan being unfaithful to Elena. Then Damon making a move on Elena. Not everyone thinks Stefan and Elena relationship is boring and not everyone wants Elena with Damon.  (Quote)

I would believe that if not for the fact that the ratings for the second half hour were quite a bit lower than the first half. Didn’t the Stefan/Katherine thing turn out to be a dream in the first 10 minutes? And it was quite clear there was not going to be any Delena scenes by the time we were half way through. The writers dropped the ball on the set up. And you should remember that these ratings reflect both the east coast and west coast. The west coast episode airs 3 hours after. By then, most have found out online the reaction to the episode. Anyway, this is all arm chair critiquing. We don’t really know why the ratings are low. All I saw was a ton of complaining online after the episode aired.

i want damon and elena together.katherine told damon she wanted stephen,damon would rather poke his eyes out then be locked up with kat.i dont like rose at all,get her out of there.jeremy and bonnie,they look good together,forget luca.BUT,as for matt and caroline and tyler,caroline and matt need eachother.tyler has always been by himself.to me he uses girls,like the way he used vicki.poor matt hes gone through hell,he needs caroline,plz make them a couple again.

Hi Amanda, Looking at that from the point of view from a Stefan fan, I see what you mean…if the situation were reversed, I don’t think I’d want to sit there and watch Damon cheat on Elena, and then watch Stefan swoop in…please note, I said if the situation were reversed.

Personally, after watching The Sacrifice and By the Light of the Moon back to back, I’m kind of glad that none of the above happened. I would have loved for the writers to have allowed Stefan to have gotten into Kat’s head, and challenged her that way, but I don’t think I would have been happy if he did the deed with Katherine.

As a Damon fan, after watching the first half of this season, I don’t think I want Elena with him right now. Watching the relationship she has with Stefan, I really don’t think she’s ready for Damon, yet. Before I start a shipper war, please note I said, YET!

I totally agree. It’s one episode, and I didn’t find it overwhelmingly disappointing, it just wasn’t what I was expecting. I will definitely continue to watch.

And I wouldn’t necessarily call Elijah a “good guy.” He’s willing to keep Elena alive, but because he wants to use her as bait. He doesn’t really care, and he’d kill her if he didn’t need her to draw out Klaus. 

Plus we don’t know if he revealed his full agenda, he will only tell Elena what is necessary to get her cooperation, he may yet have hidden plans that are far from friendly to be revealed!!

@Vamp Lover – As a Damon fan, after watching the first half of this season, I don’t think I want Elena with him right now. Watching the relationship she has with Stefan, I really don’t think she’s ready for Damon, yet.Regarding all 33 episodes of the show, Damon continues to be a major highlight of the story and the show, and yes my favorite character. From my point of view he has a bigger heart than anyone else. His strong emotions are very challenging to watch and follow through the story. As much as I like to enjoy his moments with Elena, I think she probably will never be ready for him, and not just because of her love for Stefan. She is very burdened by a triangle story from the past, so she wouldn’t let herself to consider Damon from romantic prospective, no matter if she ever felt this way. And honestly, his current and especially further relationship with Rose could let him (and us) to help him leave behind the bitterness, hatred, and feeling of less worthy person than Stefan in every aspect of life. Kevin Williamson stated in a resent interview that he and Rose are not meant to be together, that she is just a another step to his old (human)/new (vampire) humanity recognition , but I would like him to have some tender and true emotional moments with her. The way it is now, the history is repeating because all love and admiration belongs again only to Stefan. He seemed so touched when Rose said: “Because I like you”… and “I could be your special friend”, which made be very happy for him. It would be just so predictable and dull just to kill her in episode 12.  (Quote)

Hi Tamara- That’s a very good point….I think I’m turning into more of a Damon fan, than just a Delena fan. When I said I don’t think Elena is ready for him yet, I mean because I see her relationship with Stefan as more of a hand holding teenage relationship. When Rose and Damon came to the conclusion they could be “special friends”, I thought, wow..what an adult way to handle that! I’ve always thought Damon had a tender side, he was in love with Katherine for 145 years and he did his best to get her out of a tomb she wasn’t in. His face in the Return when Katherine told him she never loved him broke my heart. So did his face in Bad Moon Rising when he confessed to Elena he did not see Jer’s ring and she told him he had lost her friendship forever….

Can you imagine Elena & Stefan having a scene like Damon and Kat in The Return? Throwing each other against the wall, shoving books out of the way…can you imagine how shocked Elena would be if Stefan did that to her? LOL…hence me being more of a Damon fan than a Delan fan:)
