I didn’t know a celebs like Nina, Ian and Joseph  can submit themselves for an emmy nomination.   I thought the show nominates them.  Wonder who votes.

  • Paulyta

Wow Paul Wesley, just wow! he was the best this season and doesn’t submit himself for Emmy as lead actor…Geez, how i love this man!

  • Lexa

Yes with the Emmys the actors have to nominate themselfs, you have to work in the buisness and join the voting comitee in order to vote the actors have to submit a secene or episode at least that is what was or is done for the Daytime Emmys,so this is really not the actors fault but the rules of the Emmys

  • Bruna Silva

Sorry I love ian but Damon compared to klaus and Stefan this season has to comparison, he didn’t do much but what the hell ya vampire diaries I hope him and specially Joseph gets through

  • ihatepeople

I thought it was a little odd at first nominating yourself but it makes sense. There are so many actors on series out there they couldn’t possibly review them all unless the actors submitted the equivalent of an application to the committee. Good luck to all. I’m sure the competition is steep.

  • Mehr03

ikr…aww love Paul so much <3

  • Leah

In my opinion, Paul Wesley and Joseph Morgan are the only ones deserving enough to be considered for Emmy in Lead actor and supporting actor categories respectively. They are brilliant in their roles. Ian, sorry, but not so much.

  • anon

I’m sorry, are u saying Ian is not good in his role as Damon? I  really don’t see the point of comparing the actors, they are all brilliant in their respective roles. To say Ian is not as brilliant as Paul and Joseph is just not right. Yes, Paul and Joseph had better material this season but that doesn’t discount Ian from being true to his role. He was brilliant in S1&2 because of the material he had. Paul didn’t do much in S2 but he was still great as Stefan, nobody was telling him then he wasn’t a brilliant actor.

  • Mia

I think what Leah meant was not that Ian is not a brilliant actor , he is actually but to be worthy of an EMMY nomination?probably not much as compared to Paul and Joseph

  • Lexa

I dont know are we watching the same show with the material that he had in S3-Ian did a wonderful job, just as Paul and Joseph did,if anything I question the writing nomination, since the writing in the last half of the show was lacking in many ways, but to say that Ian did not do much this season sorry beg to differ, just my humble opinion.

  • Mal

But the writing submissions are for two episodes early in the season…

  • Zara

I agree with that. The writing went down-hill since 3×12 imo. I, as a Stelena shipper have been offended twice because of the writing and if I was a Delena fan, I wouldn’t be too pleased either. Also, the first half of the season was much more witty and funny in comparison because of the better writing, character development etc.

Damon this season was lackluster imo, and it’s not because he developed into a ‘better man’ (I liked that he was helping Stefan, despite what has happened between them in the past because Damon is right, Stefan is the only person he can truly rely on; it’s Damon that pushed Stefan away because he was pissed at him/jealous and/or difference of opinion. Episodes such as: 3×15, 3×16), even though in regards to Elena, it seemed pretty contrived since his true colours show quite prominently how selfish he can be with Elena. What Damon does for other people he cares about, especially Stefan is his humanity, not Elena (her purpose in his life is to help him open up to his humanity instead of ‘turning it off’ and killing people. Damon was like Stefan this season but he was ‘bad’ for a different reason and it is in Elena’s nature to help people as she is a kind, warm-hearted, compassionate individual. I just love Delena’s friendship, I would like to see a platonic relationship to develop by the end of the show. I for one, believe Damon and Elena both help the other grow as people (they are all part of journey, and both of their relationships with Stefan are equally, if not more important. The show wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Stelena and they are the main leads but no relationship could beat the Salvatore Brothers’ bond, except maybe Klaus/Elijah since they are an older version but they are not in the main trio so that doesn’t count, although I love them as well, of course) but as a relationship it would just become a mess, and they don’t need to be in relationship romantically to help each other and care about each other. Besides, the guilt would be too much eventually, as these two love Stefan a lot and he’s not going anywhere (even, if he pulls a Ross and claims he’s ‘fine’ and is in another relationship. We all know he will be dying inside)

Back on tangent, sorry I ranted for so long. Good luck to Nina, Ian and Joseph; they are all very talented in what they do, too bad Paul isn’t up there with them as he’s just as good (if not, even slightly better than the rest, no offence but imo) Anyway, it would be a great honour for TVD to win something at the Emmy’s as it is my favourite TV show (no bias) but credit is due to the cast and crew so they deserve recognition and this is the highest level and type of award they can receive, and ‘The End of the Affair’ and ‘The Reckoning’ are among my favourite episodes (I can’t name a single bad episode of TVD, there’s always something good in the episode for everyone, even though some aspects of it do not to everyone since we are all mostly divided in our opinions, but who wants everyone to see things in the same way with ease. Boring, right?)

  • Kate

Just to clarify the process a bit: No one is nominated yet. Actors submit themselves for consideration, and then the Academy nominates people from the list of people who submitted. We’ll find out the nominations in July.

  • Lexa

My bad I just did not like the writing this season and especially the second half, guess went with a kneejerk reaction and did not pay attention to ep. names, was just sligthly teed off about suggestion that Ian acting was not as good as Pauls and Josephs wich it was, nuff said

  • Alice

Everyone has right to their own opinion.
Ian is a great actor, but IMO Paul and JoMo owned this season.

  • anon

LOL… U just said exactly what Leah said that Ian is not a brilliant actor compared to Paul and Joseph, he isn’t worthy of an Emmy nomination but Paul and Joseph are!!! Here we go again comparing one to the other and who is worthy for what nomination. Everyone sees their favorite better than others but that doesn’t mean they are. Paul is great but I don’t think he is an Emmy contender either. Neither is Ian and neither is Joseph. They all have a some way to go before they can get there.

  • anon

“The show wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Stelena and they are the main leads”.

Have to disagree with the above… TVD may have started with Stefan and Elena’s relationship but that doesn’t mean they are the story and the only main leads. Stefan, Elena AND Damon are the leads. That is the way the show has been promoted from the start and that is what Kevin and Julie has been saying as well. And not to confuse everyone, I am not talking about couples and love stories but the characters individually.

  • nick

And why isn’t Ian not worthy of an Emmy nomination compared to Paul and Joseph? What exceptional performance has Paul or Joseph done compared to Ian? Yes, they had better material this season, that doesn’t make them any better or worthier than others…

  • A_softsong

It is really is not a fair comparison when the actors are not given equal material to work with. IMHO. Comparing Klaus’ material to Damon’s material is like comparing Bonnie’s to Caroline’s. There is no way that Bonnie could win. Caroline got the better scripts. Damon spent season 3 on the ground or floor getting the crap beat out of him.  He only had 1 real scene the whole of season 3 and that was with dying Alaric. Bonnie only had 1 real scene and that was with Klaus doing the separation spell. He can only act when given a script and that has just been lacking for his character all season.  So, how is it possible to judge who is the most brilliant in a role when one of the characters didn’t get a decent script. Ian did great with the crummy material he was given. The writing for Damon was wretched this season. In My Humble Opinion.

  • Anon

Yup!they owned it!but Paul not submitting his name just shows how humble he is about his own acting, I don’t know if I should feel glad that he is tat humble or angry because I feel tat he was awesome this season and should have submitted his name:)

  • night magic

Damon was by no means selfish this season .he was the one who stood by elena and rescued her .He did everything for her including going into an area where the werewolves were .he only kissed her after elena said we will let stefan go .and then not right then .he is a better person with elena beside him .he could have chosen to leave but instead he stayed to help elena try and get back his brother .He is forever doing things to help other people .he stayed with Alaric while he was dying .Delenas friendship developed into something really special this season until it was ruined by elena being so angry at him all the time .one kiss didnt justify all the eye rolling !!!

  • Zara

Yes, but Damon is the tritagonist, whilst Elena is the protagonist and Stefan is the deuteragonist (The Vampire Diaries is essentially Stefan’s story as it has been stated in the Pilot). Remember, he is the third main character and just because he is part of the trio, doesn’t make him a lead, just the second male lead. Also, why would Ian nominate himself under ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series’ if he was a main lead. Sorry, but from a show POV, sure he is a a main but so is Klaus, Matt, Caroline etc. (Secondary main characters, and quoted by JP “Stefan and Elena are the true epic love story of the show. Damon is the third point of the triangle.” It is just the promotion of the love triangle that makes him a main (even, Wikia states that Stefan is the male lead, and Damon is not and since each movie/show with two male/female leads, one is more of the lead and that happens to be Stefan in this case, and nothing is ever equal. Sorry DE/Damon fans but he does get a lot of screen-time so it’s not all bad)

I considered him a main before, and he still technically is one of the leads, but he is the least significant and important lead out of the three (It’s just that he is so popular with the fans for whatever reasons, I’m not going to delve into that though or generalise or stereotype the main reason why because that’s not fair. Or maybe the DE/Damon fans are more vocal and present online since the majority of the viewers are not that interest in DE since 3×19 had the least number of viewers in TVD history. 3×20 was not much better but I’m guessing it was because majority of the viewers are neutral about the love triangle and dislike the ping-pong game between SE Vs. DE because it’s annoying and makes Elena look like a hypocritic, indecisive person. That is why episodes devoted to one in particular, consecutively is something that should not happen again because people don’t like it because it does not please hardcore shippers – except for a little while and the rest of the fans who don’t care about the love triangle)

I prefer to believe the creators when they say there are 3 leads(not mains) in TVD, instead of Wiki. JP and KW have said SE are the couple but that doesn’t mean that they are the only 2 leads and that Damon is a less significant lead. The truth is whether u would like to believe it or not, there are 3 leads. TVD would not and never would be the same if not for Elena, Stefan AND Damon.

If Anna Paquin can win a Golden Globe or Emmy or whatever for playing an annoying useless twit, then Nina Dobrev deserves one for playing an annoying twit AND an awesome, feisty, manipulative vampire…
